    May have been a hot radar gun in St. Paul. Or maybe his arm got tired in September. His baseball savant page says his fastball velocity was 90.8 MPH. I think Balazovic will get back on track. Idk why they were allowing him to pitch most of last season with a bad knee. In 5 monitored September starts he had a 3.43 ERA with 12.9 K/9. That’s what I would love to see to start the year. If he does that he’ll be on the MLB team by June.

    SWR and Varland are the flavors of the month because of their cups of coffee last September. Seems that most have either forgotten or written off the pitcher with the highest upside out of the group… Jordan Balazovic. My hawt taek is he leapfrogs both Varland and SWR with a strong start in St. Paul. SWR to me appears to be a decent floor, low ceiling pitcher. If he’s only sitting at 91-92 MPH, that’s not enough to elevate him to a mid or top of the rotation guy.

    Since June 1, here are the AL Central records of KC, MN, and DET MIN - 48-63 (70 win pace) KC - 49-65 (69 win pace) DET - 47-66 (67 win pace) Better Health: Detroit lost #1 overall pick Casey Mize for the season, Austin Meadows limited to 36 games, starting rotation in shambles losing Spencer Turnball, Tarik Skubal, Matt Manning, Kyle Funkhouser, Eduardo Rodriguez, etc. Youth Development: Kansas City arguably has higher end talent than the Twins. Bobby Witt Jr being a premiere prospect, Brady Singer continues to develop into an ace, Drew Waters develops into a star, MJ Melendez takes over catching duties, etc. Detroit has Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, and a bunch of young starting pitching prospects. Re-do tight ones: KC was 16-20 in one run games. Detroit was 3-7 in extra inning games. Just a few lucky bounces and they can win! Pitching depth: Insert 10 names here every offseason to highlight depth. The division is wide open!

    I find the situation really compelling. As do most Twins fans because we are now approximately 100 Correa articles into the offseason with tons of comments. I can’t recall another situation with another star player like Correa this offseason. There are no remaining free agents who will make an impact like Correa, so let’s see it play out. If the Mets bow out, he could fall into our laps once again with little to no leverage.

    Can his ankle hold up enough to dance on the field? I’d like to find out.

    I concur with the vast majority of comments. He won’t be a first ballot HOF, but he will get in eventually. His peak performance at catcher looks more impressive as time goes on. If he doesn’t get in, neither will Posey, Salvy Perez, or Yadi Molina.

    Perhaps that’s why they’re not budging from 10/285. Already cooked in the risk in their first offer. I don’t know, just spitballing here. What I’m reading is that physicals are more thorough and comprehensive with long term deals. Twins doctors could have detected it but it was worth the risk. Since he was only signed for a 1, up to 3 year term.

    Not necessarily. From what I’m gathering, both teams are concerned about his ability to stay healthy and effective long term into his late 30s. The risk is not as significant on a shorter term deal.

    He may just end up in a Twins uniform again… And all of their leverage is gone if New York also bows out. Correa at a discount and reduced years is an ideal situation for the Twins.

    Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if this was the lineup and pitching staff on August 1, 2023. I would also add Gallo to the trade list. The only reason he’s here is to see if he has a hot 3 months to flip him for a decent prospect.

    A) In what way did we dodge a bullet? The Giants are chicken bleeps who got cold feet. As evidenced by 2 other teams that we know of (NYM and us) offering 10+ years. B) The fallout is the same for the Mets for the last 36 years. Except now they have a rouge owner that is on a rampage buying the league. Sounds like a lot of fun to be a fan of them at the moment.

    Why? Sounds like buyer’s remorse, and they’re blaming the physical. What could possibly pop up on his medical record that isn’t covered by insurance?

    I’ll start with the Rays… And including their fWAR and current teams in parentheses. 10 players in, and the Rays have far exceeded the Twins fWAR total. On Active MLB rosters: 14 total Wander Franco (4.7), Vidal Brujan (-0.9), Brandon Lowe (11.3), Jesus Sanchez (MIA 1.4), Matthew Liberatore (STL 0.0), Nick Solak (TX/CIN, 1.2), Shane Baz (0.3), Lucius Fox (WAS -0.6), Nathaniel Lowe (TB/TX 5.1), Taylor Walls (-0.1), Anthony Banda (0.5), Shane McClanahan (6.0), Colin Pache (0.3), Ian Gibaut (CIN 0.5) Players in the minors: Brendan McKay, Brent Honeywell, Ronaldo Hernandez, Moises Gomez, Joe McCarthy, Josh Lowe, Resly Linares, Nick Schnell, Tyler Frank, Jose De Leon, Drew Strotman, Garrett Whitley, Tanner Dodson, Jelfry Marte, Alejandro Pie, Tobias Myers McKay and Honeywell have had cups of coffee in the majors. So you could argue over half of their FanGraphs top 30 are major leaguers.

    My analogy is for the corporate 9-5 desk warriors out there. Falvey and Levine thought throwing a pizza party and saying “We’re a family here!” was enough to retain an employee vs. paying them what their market rate is. Sorry, millenials and especially Gen Z sees right through that.

    Never thought for a single second that the Twins were “seriously in” on Rodon. This offseason so far is a dud. The only way to dig out of this hole, if they actually want to win, is make 2 to 3 trades for MLB talent. Further depleting the farm system.

    This FO has shown to be unpredictable over the years. Going from buyers (trading for Jaime Garcia) to selling him after 1 start. If they strike out on Swanson and Rodon, which seems likely, then I wouldn’t put it past them punting the 2023 season.

    Make the game on the field the secondary entertainment… Take a page out of the indyball Saints or Savannah Bananas’ playbook and get as gimmicky as possible. If improving the on field product is off the table, then they have to provide value elsewhere. I can go to any hole in the wall bar and order a craft beer for far less than what you pay at Target Field. There are tons of indoor and outdoor parks that kids can go to for far less than the price of a Twins ticket. They’re going to have to take a hit somewhere to make Target Field a desired destination.

    Back in my college days and the Timberwolves were a terrible team, they offered a ticket upgrade from the upper to lower level if you showed up early enough. I got to see Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook destroy the Wolves up close and personal! The Twins are truly approaching the apathy level of the Timberwolves from 2006-2020. Not even free tickets to the game would entice my friend group of casual Twins fans.

    Spot on. There are 10-ish teams in the league that can write off the last 3-4 years of these agreements. And that’s what we’re seeing. They get their pick of the free agent stars every year, and the other 20 teams get the leftover scraps.
