    If all voters looked at was a player's total contribution to his team, as opposed to narratives, just offense, and if his TEAM made the playoffs, Trout would be working on his 5th MVP now and Cabrera wouldn't have any top 2 finishes, much less two actual MVPs. Donaldson would have also been recognized as a real MVP candidate way before 2015 (when he finished 2nd in AL WAR), since he finished 2nd in AL WAR in 2013 and 2014 as well.

    Those are how the top 5 should look. I imagine that's how it will end up with the order switched up a bit.

    Due to the title of this thread, when I opened it, I expected the original post to have something in it like 'I got nothin'. Usually when a player from a last place team wins the MVP, it's because his performance so far outweigh everyone else's, there's no other choice. Not at all the case here, at least not with Dozier being the guy. Trout should be the example here, if we're looking for an MVP from a last place team. Dozier will likely sit around 8-10th

    Sometimes people cite stats without actually knowing what they mean or what they are for (like, a lot of people hear/read 'range factor' and think it measures a player's range). The stat most use for range is RZR and like I said, Dozier is tied for 4th with Kipnis. Interesting to note that it seems range has dropped almost across the board for 2Bs, cause his .807 RZR (even though he's tied for 4th) is categorized between below average and average. So I guess it depends on if you measure him against starters (making him above average) or all people who play 2B (making him below average and most other starters even farther below average). 'RZR measures a player’s range, taking three things into account: the amount of Balls In Zone (BIZ) a player receives, a player’s total Plays Made, and a player’s total amount of Out Of Zone Plays Made (OOZ).' But yeah, there are some other decent stats like RngR that measure range which has him below average. How shifting affects this is being worked on, though.

    Dozier has +2 DRS this season and his range is tied for 4th out of 21 qualifying 2Bs. Metrics aren't saying he's a crap defender.

    21 RF with 800 of more innings in RF. Kepler has 5 DRS in RF this year (and another in CF). Places him 8th and he has quite a few less innings than the guys ahead of him. He's arguably a top 5 defender in RF in the near future, though top 10 now. He's doing just fine.

Later I developed fine hair that the wind could blow about with great ease, Some of the wedding pictures from my first marriage have my hair all over the place. Later in life I started getting flat tops since, due to the scarlet fever, my hair had started receding early in life and it was continuing it's retreating march. Seemed the right time to do it. Then, about 10 years ago, I just got it all buzzed off. Loved it. Went home and took blade to it. Loved it. I kept it shaved (shaved it every other day) until I retired from the military. Now, one every couple weeks, I just have my wife shave my head. No need to tell the barber what I want done with my hair and the cost of haircuts, well, can't beat it :-)

    I absolutely want the Cubs to win it all. They are a great team. I wish my Grandma and Dad had lived long enough to see the team they have now.

    My brother went to four different high schools, one year apiece. He didn't enjoy it one bit. it likely cost him a full baseball scholarship.

    He's been back for, what, 13 games now? In the last 14 days, he's started 12 games and hit .333/.404/.714 in 48 PA. He's also sported a BABIP of .455. He's struck out 33% of the time, which is very close to striking out as much as Cody said he had in his first 109 games. Then you look at what he's done in the last 7 days (which is included in the awesome last 14 games time frame): 6 games started, 24 PA, .158/.304/.316. (with a BABIP of .222), striking out 40%. So what's happened was, he had an AWESOME first week back. That's what happened. He looks better, but he's got a ways to go.

    Jack Goin is doing a fine job. The higher ups just need to find a way to implement the info more in regards to signing FAs along with the field manager actually using it.

    Yeah, it's been fun to see. Let's hope he sustains it. Veteran players have a hard time sustaining changes in their swings/approach and often revert back to what they've always been.

    I think people look at the Rangers record and assumes they are in the best shape, then say Indians for the same reason. I disagree. IMO, Boston has the best team in the AL with the Blue Jays right behind them. They play in the toughest division against the toughest competition. Makes sense they'd have a lesser record that the Ranger since 4 of the 5 teams in the ALE are going to finish with winning records. Boston sits at +173 differential, with Blue Jays at +85 and Indians at +109. As far as BaseRuns go, Boston, Indians, Blue Jays, Rangers.

    Yes, I'm sure if Mauer's contract didn't exist, Ryan would have signed an ace type pitcher with that money...and that we'd be winning right now. All Mauer's fault.
