    Some of the big negatives for Morris are as old school as it gets. He would have the worst ERA (3.90) of any SP in the HOF (currently the worst is 3.80). The average ERA for a HOF pitcher is under 3.00. For his career, his ERA is only 5% over league average. Also, his K/9 is less than 6 and his BB/9 is over 3. Not only that, the new way of thinking hasn't even really taken strong hold in the HOF voting (as there are tons of old school writers holding on) and even less so the first 10 years he was eligible. And one example of HOF voting not really up to newer thinking is Glavine getting in first ballot and Mussina still not in.

    I have no problem with being able to love the game of baseball (and the Twins) passionately while also being able study and/or analyze the game. My love of the game isnt tied into enjoying the game the same way as I did as a kid. Just because I dont think Dozier deserved the award, doesnt mean I cant love the fact he won as a Twins fan.

    FIP- is park and league adjusted. Much like ERA- and xFIP- are. Darvus is tied for 29th in FIP-

    Lackey yells at his catcher and yells at his position players during the game (on the field) when mistakes happen. He acts like a complete donkey on the field. Hard pass.

    Ian Kinsler was the clear leader in SDI, DRS and UZR while being 2nd in RZR to Altuve. Still happy for Dozier that he got it.

    Overall for American League SDI Twins rankings. Castro: 4th out of 17 Mauer: 3rd out of 13 Dozier: 2nd out of 13 Sano: 11th out of 13 Polanco: 8th out of 13 Rosario: 7th out of 14 Buxton: 1st out of 11 Kepler: 5th out of 12.

    BTW, for the award, they do take SDI into account for 25% of the vote. I dont know much about that stat. Dozier did finish 2nd for AL 2B in that, whereas Hosmer finished 12 out of the 13 AL 1Bs listed.

    No need to apologize for getting on a moral high horse. Your post doesnt put you on a moral high horse at all. People have a right to discuss whether or not players are deserving on an award. NO ONE SEEMS TO BE UPSET Dozier won (and there of tons of congratulations). Some are just wondering if he was the best choice, and I dont know wondering that means that peole want him gone for new shiny propsects. Some fans are putting their fandom aside and asking if he was deserving in the same way some people are wondering why Hosmer even warrants a top 3 spot much less winning the thing. Its a baseball discussion about the merits of an award.

    Exactly how I feel. And Hosmer won, so Dozier winning it isn't even the worst selection.

    Yeah, AJ Hinch definitely had a full roster of quality players, but that's a result of the GM's work.

    I agree with Jeff Sullivan (who picked Molitor before the finalists were annoounced) in that I think Molitor will win. Go Paul!

    Berrios, Santana, Mejia, Gonzalez and May if he's ready. Let's rock and roll! 18 of Lynn's Ks were against pitchers, BTW.

    Perhaps it was, but how good were the pitching staffs of those teams who spent less? Did they spend it earlier than that time frame? Were they actually able to develop quality pitching and/or trade for young quality pitching instead of having to spend to put a competitive pitching staff together? We've needed pitching for a long time. We've had the worst pitching in baseball this decade. We haven't done a good job developing it or trading for it, so being average in spending doesn't seem to be okay.

    So for the main three you mentioned, 11 years of FA pitching for 122M. 11M a year average for our substantial FA signings, but then some bargain basement ones as well (which count towards conversations about FA signings done to help our rotation, I believe). In any event is 11M a year going to get QUALITY pitching in today's game when 1 WAR is worth about 8M? Quality pitchers cost way more. But, hey, I hope so, but neither Lynn or Cobb are impressive and not sure either are worth a 4/48 contract.

    Twins spent over 125M over a 5 year span and that was for how many pitchers and how much longer are the contracts? What was the average salary per year and the biggest contract?
