    it's not whether or not the science is bad, it's what the industry does based on it. Sort of like pitch counts. I have no idea how much he'll pitch next year. Not sure he'll see an inning increase of almost 50%, especially since he was shut down (due to fatigue, was it?), but he could. In this case, I was just having some fun doing the math :-)

    let's do the math. A 20% increase would be around 117 innings (2017). 20% from that, 140 innings (2018). 20% from that 168 innings (2019).

    Here's a couple awesome things. There have been 30 CFs who have played 500 or more innings. Buxton is tied for 7th in DRS (he has 6). He has 574 innings out there. The two he is tied with have 1051 innings and 1104 innings. Probably not out of line to say he's arguably a top 5 defensive CF right now. Mauer is tied for 6th in DRS for 1Bs in 791 innings (he has 6). The two he is tied with have at least 1100 innings. It's arguable he is top 3 in the majors at 1B defensively and arguably the best in the AL (with only Moreland really in contention for the top spot).

    Miller is arguably the best reliever in the game, all things considered. That's a heck of a ceiling to assign to Jay :-)

    It's not wrong, bad or evil. DH is a spot in the lineup that needs to be filled. Ortiz started being mostly a DH at age 24 and few bemoan his lack of chances to stay at a position. We could continue to try and make Sano a better fielder, with it likely not turning out. In any event, last year when Sano was killing it in the majors, he was doing that mostly as a DH. It's where he'll end up sooner rather than later anyway. Hurting our defense by delaying the inevitable is, IMO, a bad idea.

    Well, I didn't say he's a 4th OF now, I said, 'It's why I think his future SHOULD BE 4th OF.' Seems clear that the Twins DON'T have better options now so he's a starter now. Hopefully they will in the future. It's like I don't call Santana an ACE type starter just because he's easily our best starter. His talent level says screams top notch 3 starter or the lower end of #2 starter, not Ace.

    Probably goes down as a stupid trade even without adding the 4th rounder :-) And it's not just about a 1st rounder and a 4th rounder. But Bradford was a #1 pick who has flopped (for whatever reason). Now the Eagles get a first round pick for a guy who... A: is hurt a lot himself. B: hasn't been that good when he's been on the field. C: was just replaced by a rookie. But your GM did what he thought he needed to do. It's a pretty big gamble. BTW, in regards to C, that's no knock on Wentz. I'm a big fan of this rookie. Was so disappointed he went to the Eagles. It's like, how can I root for you NOW? :-)

    You're not misinterpreting the graphs. What you're looking at can be found on most any sports site. They are basic defensive stats that have been around for quite some time, no cutting edge info. That info can be found on ESPN, MLB dot com, Baseball-Reference, etc. I'm really not sure what the point of comparing CS to outfield assists is though.

    Often large outfield assist totals are about opportunity with people running a lot on someone. Alfonso Soriano was able to have a few years where he got a lot of assists too. Yes, Rosario has gunned some people down, but he's also made some bad throws that allowed runners to advance and he's also allowed runners to advance due to ill-advised throws (i.e., throwing to the wrong place because he over-estimated his ability). This team has to play smarter baseball. Too many fundamental mistakes. And for Rosario, between poor defensive fundamentals and the need to swing at anything within a 5 mile radius of the strike zone, he's got major holes in his game. It's why I think his future SHOULD BE 4th OF.

    We could just do what Ryan did this offseason. Look at our 2015 record, actually believe the talent level on the team was that good as opposed to being the beneficiary of some advantageous sequencing on the offensive side, and then do zippidy-squat to improve weaknesses that were apparent to most everyone while other teams tried to, you know, actually get better. :-)

    I predicted Donaldson would win the AL MVP. Seems at least some didn't think Oakland won :-)
