  1. Could not have been said better.
  2. we'd have to actually have some stud prospects in order for any to be blocked on this team ;-)
  3. Now they need to address the 29th ranked team defense :-)
  4. In 2015, Castro caught 17 of Kuechel's games, ERA of 2.26. Conger caught 16, ERA of 2.67. Pretty darn close to the same. And Castro caught Kuechel this year too, right? 16 games, 99 innings, ERA over 5.00. 9 games with Gattis catching his ERA was about half of what it was with Castro. Why was Kuechel so much better with Gattis? I'm just messing, though. Your post was very good and makes good points.
  5. And some people raved about how good Suzuki was at calling games and working with pitchers to help our staff as we gave him an extension. We'll see how it goes. It's an improvement.
  6. Trying this again: We got him for a good price. He's an improvement. I wonder how much. We'll find out.
  7. As soon as you can say our pitching staff will benefit the same amount the Astros did (and tell me for sure it was all due to Castro), I will. Right now you're assuming our pitching staff will get the same benefit and I have my doubts. So I'm going by what we know he is for sure responsible solely for and hope that Castro makes out pitching staff looks like Houston's by his mere presence. We got him for a good price. He's an improvement. I wonder how much. We'll find out.
  8. Yeah, and how many things have you repeated about this trade on the three total threads started on this (some that have been locked or disappeared?) I re-posted it (for the first time) because someone asked a question after saying he's now the 7th highest paid and wanted to know if he was worth it. I stated a fact. People can discard the info if they feel like it.
  9. Because I take into account the idea that maybe some of the pitch framing credit Castro gets has to do with their pitching being much better than ours to begin with (before even taking into account framing) and that maybe some of the close calls credited to Castro have to do with their pitcher consistently hitting close enough to the zone anyway. Like I said, we'll see.
  10. 16 out of 20 in WAR last year for catcher with 350 or more PAs.
  11. I think the people expecting that are being way too optimistic.
  12. Yeah, the Astros pitchers are much better. They are around the plate more and while part of the reason they get more calls is Castro, the other is that they have a rep for consistently pitching well overall. Castro has averaged 1.4 WAR over the last three years so, really, the price is fine if that's what we get. That's the going rate for that much WAR. It's just that I doubt it's much of an improvement. P.S. remember when we got Suzuki and everyone was talking abut how good of a defensive catcher he was? That was fun.
  13. Vargas was horrible in 2015 and then he was very good in July before going right back to his 2015 ways. He's not some young prospect either. He's 26, not some young prospect. We have a great option for DH, Vargas isn't it.
  14. yeah, a lot of Twins fans are way over-valuing Dozier.
  15. I find it amazing you assume anyone is making an assumption about someone's character based on one move. Someone can say it's a BS move without assuming the people making the move are always jerks. I don't remember saying these guys are total jerks because of one thing. People can have jerk moments without actually being a jerk. I find the way they told Plouffe to be a horrible way to do it. It was a borderline unprofessional way to do it. I don't assume these people are horrible or are unprofessional based on this one thing.
  16. It's a BS move. The guy has been in the organization for 13 years and they drop him by voicemail. There really is no rationalizing that kind of move to make it look like it's an okay way to do it. It's like asking for a divorce by text message.
  17. well, Ryan said he didn't try to trade Plouffe. The guy averaged 3 WAR in the previous two seasons. A guy like that SHOULD have value if you try and move him. Some have gotten what they want. Enjoy. Should be funny to watch.
  18. Um, perhaps tell him in person or, when Plouffe didn't answer, ask him to call him back?
  19. yeah, really not cool how they did it. there's a way to be a human being while also doing business. GO PLOUFFE!
  20. We don't know if they COULDN'T move Ervin. Just as likely they never tried to move Ervin. Same with Plouffe (last year).
  21. Yup, good luck to them both. I don't think getting rid of Walker was taking a risk. As far as Plouffe goes, he had injuries. He's an easy bounceback candidate and should help a team if he's healthy. They are freeing up the 3B spot. Hope their selection to fill it steps up.
  22. The howling will only come from those allowed to comment on his 'defense'. The one, or maybe ones, that aren't will be chuckling silently to themselves:-)
  23. You got a reprieve, Trevor. Hopefully you're healthy this year and get picked up by a team that is actually a contender. You sure weren't going to be on a contender if you stayed here. Go Trevor!
