  1. I think the PED discussion here, around baseball, and around the internet tells us that people decide on their own what is and isn't relevant to this discussion. Or what is and isn't a good comparative scenario, for that matter.
  2. I'm glad Gordon went back to KC. Seeing him in another uniform would be weird. Good to see a team value such a quality player on both sides. Cain will be practically the same age as Gordon when he hits FA. Assuming he ever gets to FA in 2018 that is.
  3. Apparently many people think it's okay to deny someone an honor because of unsubstantiated rumors. Since so many could never be in these players' shoes, it's easy to blow it off as unimportant. I'm guessing many of these people would have a real issue with it if it were them, or if they were denied something due to nothing more than accusations. It's easy to claim the moral high ground when you're not the one being accused (and those accusations deny you something you've earned). It's also easy to blow off an honor you spent practically your whole life working towards when you aren't the one who did the work. Anyway, not going to change anyone's mind, of course, so to the topic at hand" CONGRATS to Ken Griffey Jr. Joining the elite of the elite as you well deserve it.
  4. Nope, never thought for a second they would.
  5. People deciding someone, who is otherwise deserving, doesn't actually deserve something based on ugly rumors (PED rumors, criminal activities rumors). And the person wanting the job has no recourse when they aren't hired, much like the people on the HOF ballot. If the reason people think they don't deserve to get in is because they are suspected of taking PEDs, then a deserving HOF career is not being recognized for what it was. Some may think no big deal, but to the players who put up worthy careers, it is to them. Every person who is one of the very best at what they did deserve to be recognized for it and shouldn't have to. And let's not pretend that having HOFer doesn't help players financially. Also, let's not minimize it because it's a bunch of rich people we are talking about as opposed to Joe Average looking for work. Some people seem to think it's okay to throw accusations around all willy nilly on the internet. In fact, some think it's just fun and don't care whether the have anything to back it up or not. They just don't like a person or a point of view, so the accusations fly. Some of these players are dealing with this.
  6. I have issues with players being held out of the HOF due to suspicion of taking PEDS. I wonder how many people would enjoy not getting hired for a good paying job because the hiring authority went on-line and read unsubstantiated rumors about them being a spouse abuser or a thief? Anyone can say anything about anyone and people can run with it.
  7. First ballot. Highest percentage ever. Only three non-votes for him.
  8. Smoking carries significant side effects. So does fast food, soda, alcohol, etc. HGH helps recovery process and has side effects. Describes a lot of medicine. I have no issues with it if it is: A: Used for healing and B: Approved ahead of time by the game of baseball and C: Prescribed and administered by doctors approved by MLB.
  9. WAR fluctuates up and down all season for every player in the game. I used an example many Twins fans would know (since he's a Twin) and some tracked, considering some were praising the signing of him mid-season using WAR as talking point.
  10. based on one year.
  11. Did someone suggest Desmond would be a better defensive player? Or did some suggest he's a better overall player?
  12. Clearly the Twins would have advanced past the Yankees in the playoffs a few times (if not every time), if the Yankees played PED free.
  13. All this would be a nice rebuttal if I had actually compared their last two years at shortstop; however, I didn't do that. It's also a slippery slope to project WAR as a person's WAR can go up and down throughout a year. One might assume that with more games Escobar's WAR would automatically go up.That's not how it works. If I remember correctly, Hunter had a WAR close to 2.0 halfway through last season and ended up with 0.5 WAR. I certainly remember it being around 1.7 at some point. It's also convenient to see a guy with three straight years of WAR of 4.0 or higher, then see one clear off year of 1.6, and assume it's going to stay that way that low. That probably extends to Tulo as well.
  14. Well, that Oklahoma loss was pretty predictable. Clemson was clearly the better team going in and going out. 1K more in the bank for me.
  15. Sorry, my post seemed to imply you said that, but I didn't mean it that way. It was just a final statement is all. Lots of people saying he's really good and no need to address that spot.
  16. On that note, from Dave Cameron's chat today: Scott: 'Is it crazy that I think the Twins have a potential great lineup? There is no doubt that they still need to add to their pitching.' Dave Cameron: 'You’re probably focusing too much on upside and not enough on what these players are right now. Buxton has a lot of tools but there are few reasons to think he’ll hit well in 2016.'
  17. At shortstop, his defensive runs saved in 2014 was -6 and 2 in 2015. 2.1 UZR in 2014 and 2.6 UZR in 2015. Overall, he had 1.5 WAR in 2015. Almost a full run lower than 2014. He's averaged a hair under 2 WAR in the last two years. 1-2 WAR is considered a role player. He is not clearly a starting type player. He is borderline starting player. Ian Desmond had an off year in 2015 for sure (or at least erratic), but was worth over 4 WAR in 2012, 2013 and 2014. There is no reason we shouldn't look at all avenues to improve, even at shortstop.
  18. Until we consistently have players with better OBPs than Mauer had last year (or, better yet, what your projection states: .387 OBP), Mauer should bat 2nd. A change in the batting order won't turn on a switch and I still want the guys with the best OBPs batting in the upper half of the lineup.
  19. Perhaps Kylo Rens power isn't quite at its peak, but I don't remember that any one else could stop a blast mid air and hold it like he did or actually draw out info from people's mind that they didn't want to give up. That's pretty powerful.
  20. We were told Rey's last name and Finn's last name would be very recognizable. I'm hoping Rey's is Kenobi. I think about how Obi beat the powerful Anakin in Episode III and would find it awesome if they decided that the Kenobi line turned out to be the most powerful. They are going to make Rey amazingly powerful. I also like how Kylo looked outside his mask. Anakin hardly looked like a BA in the form of Hayden Christensen or Sebastian Shaw. Some of the worst people hardly look like bad guys at all.
  21. I called the Shields trade a win for KC when it happened and nothing has come close to changing my mind.
  22. Ok, for me it's not about May versus Milone (because I think May should bump all but maybe one of our starters), but how did Milone outperform May as a starter? May had the better FIP, more Ks per 9 IP, less walks per 9 IP, less HR/9 IP and better HR/FB% (all while having a much higher BABIP which likely goes down). May, as a starter, had more WAR as a starter too even though he started seven less games. In fact, it's likely that the only reason May didn't have the most WAR of any starter on the team is because he had about half as many starts as Pelfrey and Gibson.
