  1. Except you used the 2015 Blue Jays and 2001 Mariners as examples of failure. And the reason they were failures, you said, was because they didn't win the world series. And you talked about the 29 GMs who fail every year. So, yeah, you did say throughout a few posts that if the GM/Team doesn't win the W Series, they failed.
  2. was it really pretty much the same team? Even then, we had fortunate sequencing. I wouldn't count on that again. This year Mollie will have more or less the same team as 2015 (minus a RF who provided minimal value). The rest of the teams in our division I believe have improved their teams.
  3. I would have preferred a manager from completely outside the organization, but between Molitor and Gardenhire, I prefer Molitor.
  4. The idea that May is even in the competition for a spot in the rotation is just PR talk. They moved him to the bullpen last year in favor of some inferior SPs. They have done nothing to improve the bullpen. The rotation he got bumped out of is mostly the same (minus Pelfrey, that's it). He's now a bullpen guy. That's it.
  5. Demon Young choked a guy? Must have broken one of the unwritten rules. Papelbom endorses Young's actions! :-)
  6. He will soon end up at DH. It's where he should be.
  7. Not all of those are fluke. It's him playing all out all the time and not knowing when to back off a bit. He's the guy who will try to run through a wall. I dig the all out mentality but he has to develop some sense in that regard lest he becomes our Eric Davis (who was awesome when he stayed on the field). I'm not worried at all, but I'm also not ready to say he'll be our best player by WAR because there is nothing to suggest that in his first year, that will be the case. How about we just stop putting expectations like that on him?
  8. Are you saying I completely mis-read your post? Cause I wouldn't be surprised if I did :-)
  9. Couldn't agree more with this post. And I'd add Hughes as the same kind of example as Suzuki.
  10. Plouffe had played SS his whole career. Was it obvious he could play shortstop when he hit the majors? What about Danny Santana? Braun had played IF his whole career too until he was so bad they had to put him in the OF after his rookie season. The list of people who played a position his whole career before hitting the majors and couldn't cut it once they made it to the majors goes on and on. All throughout baseball. And, in fairness, Plouffe probably would have figured out 3B a lot sooner if the team had realized he wasn't a shortstop a lot earlier.
  11. Perhaps it's just for the reasons below people aren't ready to say he'll be the best player on the team leading in WAR this year. A: Hasn't adjusted to the major league level B: Hasn't proven anything at the major league level C: Is injury prone Ability doesn't always translate right away and sometimes never.
  12. If we are going to blame his hitting woes on workload and wearing down, why has he hit better in his career in the 2nd half than the 1st half?
  13. Since they decided to bet on a guy whose great BABIP helped fuel his .730ish or so OPS in SSS, let's just start his starting catcher era now and let Suzuki start about 45 games.
  14. I read that when it was written and expressed my doubts numerous times concerning both Suzuki and on another article you write about Hughes. Pointing to an article you wrote before as proof of your opinion now is interesting though.
  15. yeah, I agreed with you. I heard the same. and like I said, Hunter said similar things: '"I'm going to spend a lot of time working with him, but he's very athletic for a big-framed guy," Hunter said. "To go to right field it's easier for him with the high wall. He can just play it off the wall because in left field, you need someone more athletic to jump up to rob home runs. I definitely think he has a good chance to cover some ground. But it's his first year in the outfield, so give him some grace and don't boo him too much because he'll have some tough times. But he's athletic enough to hold it down and be solid."'
  16. Exactly. And Torii Hunter said basically the same thing.
  17. To be able to play OF at an acceptable level at the major level takes tons of time. Seems some think it doesn't take any time at all. There are nuances at every position and playing OF is no different. It's more than just see ball get ball.
  18. We don't need no stinkin' plan!
  19. I think a big problem Mauer has is the ever expanding called strike zone. His eye is so keen on what was being called a strike and not a strike for so long that the yearly expansions of the zone is hard for him to adjust to. Batters who are less selective, who are more free swingers, are likely less effected. just my opinion. I think the concussion is part of it too.
  20. Good for them. Both deserving. I hope Morneau is next. Also deserving.
  21. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 3h3 hours ago Ryan on Plouffe: "He wasn't going anywhere. It was just a matter of fitting all these guys into the puzzle." Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino Jan 29 Asked Terry Ryan how much trade interest Trevor Plouffe generated. He said #MNTwins did not entertain offers/make him available. I suppose both could be interpreted to mean something other than Ryan had no intention of moving him whatsover, but one really has to want to see it. In an event, I'm fine with keeping Plouffe and glad they didn't move him. It was the Park signing, which moves Sano off DH, that was my issue.
  22. Howie, you think winning 83 games means rebuilding is done? Here's my take on how we finally stopped the 90 loss trend. We had very advantageous sequencing last year. It's how we explain being 8th in the AL in scoring even though we were last in OBP, 12th in SLG %, 13th in OPS and 14th in wRC+. You think we can count on that kind of sequencing again this year? BaseRuns had us with about 10 less wins. Pythag had us with two less wins. Our relief pitching was pathetic and needs work as pointed out by Ryan and everyone with eyes. Our starting pitching is full of #3-#5 starters. Our defense may actually get worse. If he is done with his rebuild, we are so screwed.
