    Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Twins and New York offer the same amount, doesn't the player, after taxes, actually get more if he is with the Twins?

    A pitcher is one of nine defensive players on the field. Suggesting everyone who plays defense should hit doesn't equate to 'well if that is the case they should all be able to pitch too' . That makes zero sense. They already contribute to the defensive part of the game playing their respective positions.

    When I retire, I wil have Military retirement (already have). Federal employee retirement (Working towards) and if social security is still around, that too. I dabble with a 401k (it will do whatever it does) and I will have a quality nest egg in savings when I retire. I don't want to just count on one thing. I want multiple sources of income.

    Back when bullpens and rotations were smaller, there were more position players available on the bench and more moves could be made. Not sure why it is taking so long to expand rosters.

    Obviously my favorite team is the Twins but I still manage to watch the NL too and I prefer the Game without a DH.

    I like the NL style of play myself. I like the strategy that can be used. I also like it when cowardly pitchers, who hit batters on purpose because of some perceived slight, have to face the music in the batter's box himself..

    Oh, I totally figured that. I'm just saying, I think it's a great place to be FROM. I, personally, wouldn't want to live there now unless I was very rich and lived in Carmel :-)

    I think one reason WAR doesn't put catchers high up there with position players is because catchers don't play as much as other position players and it's a cumulative stat.

    McCullers looks pretty darn good for the Astros. Same draft as Correa. 21 years old, already has 22 starts in the majors. Over 9 Ks per 9IP. 3.26 FIP, 3.50 xFIP. ERA+ of 125.

    I am pretty sure I read an article about Piazza choosing to go in as a Met and another about Griffey choosing to go in as a Mariner. in fact, Piaza talked to Lasorda about it before picking the Mets cap. I believe they do have a choice.

    I am having a hard time seeing where Hunter has a Better resume for the HOF than Edmonds, who fell off the ballot 1st time due to the 10 player vote max. Edmonds has the better stat slash line, a better wRC+, and roughly 25 more WAR. And he was a top notch defender as was Hunter. where is the argument Hunter has a better HOF case than Edmonds?

    Projections are based on what the players are projected to do. The guy who created ZiPS even said projections aren't predictions because projections can't predict sequencing and they know some players under-perform and over-perform their projections.

    The idea that getting the job done isn't good enough is what prompted the trade for Capps to replace Rauch in 2010 and the loss of Ramos. Just saying. In any event, the numbers suggest Storen was doing more than just getting the job done.

    In 2015, Storen had an ERA of 1.73, had 29 saves, and only two BS (and they won both those games) when he had his job taken from him. He was getting the job done.

    Finkle and Marino all over again. Not being a Vikes fan, I'm not as bothered about what happened out there today as many Vikes fans are. I sympathize with most of the fans here who are Vikings fans.

    I've said at last twice that I'm not referring to anyone. That includes the one you quoted. Bags is a good example and his numbers, IMO, make him a clear HOFer otherwise. ROY, MVP, .299/.408/.540 with an OPS+ of 149. 79.6 WAR (average WAR for HOF 1Bs is in the mid 60s) Some experts, such as Bill James, say Bags is the 4th best 1B of all time. JAWS has him as 6th. Everyone in the top 10 that is retired and has been able to be voted in the HOF has been. (Pujols and Thome being the exceptions, because neither is eligible yet). And the comment wasn't just about PEDs, it's anything.

    Revere: 4.7 overall WAR in the last three years. In the last three years, while playing defense, he has accumulated -24 DRS, and about a -4.0 UZR, in the OF. In the last three years while playing CF, he has accumulated -22 DRS with a negative UZR in 2,028 innings. Doesn't bring much to defense regardless of his speed.
