  1. John Sickels goes out of his way to make a prediction like that. It was a good article. Good comments by Gleeman as well.
  2. I think it's important to remind people that regression isn't a positive or negative. A player who is normally very good and has a bad year is a perfect example of a regression candidate for the following year.
  3. 'And the "conservative" Ryan is also the guy who pulled off the May and Meyer deals, threaded far deeply than ever before in the FA waters for Nolasco, Hughes and Santana, made the move for the young killer Murphy at catcher, and surprised everyone with the winning bid for Park.' I guess it's just a matter of perspective. I don't think the May and Meyer deals were very bold. One just fell into his lap by his own admission. One likely won't work out and the other is being squandered by putting him in the pen. As far as the Hughes FA signing, that was hardly bold. The extension was ridiculous, but the FA signing was meh. As far as how much was spent for Nolasco and Santana, the bar was set awfully low. Those aren't big signings, really. None of those have actually been huge. And the Park winning bid. It was low, he didn't go crazy. And the killer Murphy? Huh? I'm sorry, he is very conservative. We are just conditioned to expect nothing but scraps that on the rare occasion there's a bit more, it's like WOW.
  4. I'm a huge Sano fan like most Twins fans, but if he maintains a .396 BABIP it'd be the highest career BABIP in the history of the game. I expect regression from Mauer could very well happen. Duffy is a prime candidate as stated.
  5. People were talking about Cervelli for quite some time. I, myself, have never written his name in here (or perhaps anywhere) until this post. So your irony comment is misplaced.
  6. My boys and I have reserved seats for Sunday at 10:00 am while the churchgoers are busy :-)
  7. Not sure how anyone can say Murphy is an acceptable long term catcher. He hasn't even had a full season yet. We don't know what he can do. We've seen what he can do in a nice hitters park with an unsustainable BABIP in a very short sample size , though.
  8. It's not my rule it's just the way it is for most players. Of course there are exceptions, there always are. Suzuki isn't that kind of player. He basically had a half of a good season in 2014 at age 30. No reason, at all, to believe that good first half of 2014 was sustainable going into 2015. It was especially obvious he wouldn't when he went back to being the player he had been in the 2nd half of 2014.
  9. Suzuki was just THIS close to becoming a HOFer just like Molitor :-) Just like Meyer will be awesome like HOFer Big Unit because they are both tall and because Unit took awhile to find his groove. HOFers are always great examples to look for norms.
  10. It's only a controversial point if you're trying to find some way to defend the course of action/inaction. A half season of quality offense by 30 year old Suzuki in 2014 that had already turned back to normal in the 2nd half? It doesn't take much to see he hadn't turned anything around.
  11. yeah, I can see how it'd be bleep to think a catcher who is over 30 didn't magically turn it around offensively, especially when he already reverted back to normal in the 2nd half of his possible best season ever at age 30. This isn't a young player we're talking about. You can think it's bleep as much as you want. Players with a bunch of playing time don't usually maintain a year completely out of his recent normal offensive performance. Regression to the mean is an actual thing. A GM sure as heck shouldn't count on that VAST ONE YEAR improvement to continue and put all his eggs in that basket.
  12. Having May fill Swarzak's role would be the worst thing for him. Bad enough if he isn't starting like he should, but if he's not going to start, use him in the 7th or 8th.
  13. Suzuki coming back to his normal self might have been the most predictable thing going on with the Twins heading into the 2015 season (that and Hughes doing the same). One didn't need hindsight to see either coming.
  14. The extreme not-luck you mention in regards to HR in 2015 was 1.68 HR/9 IP. In 2012 his HR/9 IP was 1.65 and in 2013 it was 1.48. All seem pretty close. Almost as if this is a guy who gives up HR and he just went back to doing so in 2015. The one that doesn't is, of course, 2014 when he went way out of character with his 0.69 HR/9 IP.
  15. If May stays in the bullpen, it will be yet another horrible decision. Won't at all be a surprising one, but horrible nonetheless.
  16. Phil Hughes FIP in 2015 was 4.70. It was 4.56 in 2012 and 4.50 in 2013. Those are very close. His 2014 FIP was 2.65.
  17. Wade dav is was moved to the pen by the Rays before he was ever traded. They had already concluded he was a relieved. Why KC chose to try again I don't know.
  18. When we got Capps we were 2/3 into the season and we had lost only one game after Rauch was brought in for the save.
  19. Now that I think of it, Mr. Tripoli (the identity Hanzee took) was the Fargo mob boss that Hess worked for in season one. Tripoli sent Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers to kill whomever killed Hess.
  20. Are we supposed to figure Hanzee becomes Malvo? The whole 'he'll be back' proclamation by Lou and the whole needing a face guy for a new face during the conversation at ball field?
  21. Suzuki had a very good first half in 2014 and then went back to being the same guy he was in 2012 and 2013. Then he was the same guy in 2015. He took a step back to who he is as a hitter, not from what he normally is, and he still can't throw people out.
  22. I am serious. Since Mauer moved, we have been without a quality starting catcher. Trading for yet another backup catcher doesn't excite me. We now have three of those and no quality starter. We have never lacked for backup catchers. We need a starting caliber catcher. I would have gotten excited over that.
  23. yes, along with Suzuki. Who should be nothing more than a backup.
  24. We've had backup catcher covered for quite some times. Years in fact :-)
