  1. And were they, really? The winner was Abreu by a huge margin. Got all of the 1st place votes for a total of 150 points. Vargas got no votes, Santana was put on one ballot. He got 3 pts. A MINNESOTA voter who isn't even a sports writer anymore (and hasn't been for more than a decade, I think he's an official scorer now) gave him a 2nd place vote. He was also one of the two writers who put Rosario on his ballot this year (while excluding Sano).
  2. ND has one loss. That was a 2 point loss to the current #1 team in the nation. They've played the 14th hardest schedule in football and still have to play Stanford. It'd be a shame if they win out and are left on the outside. Could very well happen though.
  3. Neither do I.
  4. Another middle reliever, perhaps?
  5. I'm a pretty big fan of Tennant. He's my favorite Doctor, and Season One of Broadchurch was one of my favorite seasons of any show, ever. I'm glad he's getting more work on bigger projects. He's awesome.
  6. I really loved D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk in Daredevil. So, for me, Tom Hiddleston was supplanted earlier this year.
  7. I think if you look around at multi-year Free Agent contracts and bidding amounts for established players in other markets, you'll find none of those are of the expensive variety in today's market. The fact that those are large contracts for the Twins doesn't make them actually large contracts in today's market.
  8. DVDs didn't even exist when the Twins last won a W Series. That's how long it's been. Those VHS recordings of our W Series wins had to be re-released on DVD :-)
  9. Has there ever been a bigger attention hound in the game than Ortiz? This might make the going away tour of Jeter look like a blip on the radar screen.
  10. Sano didn't deserve it. He may have won it, maybe, it he had played more but he didn't. Additionally, even if he had played more, since the guys who finished one, two are shortstops, I still doubt it. Because that is a prime position and Sano would have done mostly DH.
  11. This, exactly this.
  12. I don't think it's any surprise, with all the love President Obama reaps on Muslims, that President Obama has defended the Islamic faith by saying that ISIS isn't Islamic. I imagine, as a whole, Muslims love him.
  13. Should we trust the 172 PAs Murphy had last year with his .357 BABIP which garnered him a OPS in the .730s?
  14. no, no. You gave your opinion on the place, I gave the opinion that I have no interest in the place. No wrong opinions
  15. I feel horrible for the French over this, ISIS needs to be taken out, but I lived in a country that borders France for a couple years, and spoken to plenty of Parisians, and I never even had the desire to go to Paris. Sort of like I have no desire to go to NY.
  16. I think there's a lot of wishful thinking going on, and I'll add to that. I'm wishful too. I'm not sure there's any logic behind being wishful in this case, but rather a lot of straw grasping, but I still am wishful. Thing is, if all he ends up being is a middle reliever, it'll be a disappointment.
  17. I suppose you would have preferred .350+. The point is the same. Only 5 players in the history of game have had a career BABIP of .357 or higher. Miggy Cabrera's career BABIP is 9 points below it and he's considered one of the best, if not the best, pure hitter in this generation. Murphy's .357 BABIP, which pushed his whopping .730 something OPS, is unsustainable. When it goes down around league average or lower, something one would expect from a projected backup catcher, we'll see how it affects his OPS.
  18. Well I rarely if ever believe anything TR says when he says it (because you can only get burned so many times), but I hope we keep Plouffe, myself.
  19. No, it was an exaggeration to make a point but you know what I have read/heard? That for most of the year the team was mostly the same as last year but what changed was getting Hunter's leadership, him showing the team how to win, and him loosening things up and that caused them to win a lot more than they did. Did the people who said things like that actually come out and put a number of games on it, no? But that's a roundabout way of saying his presence was the reason we won way more than we should have. And my point is, I don't doubt it helped. I just don't know how much. I'm not sure anyone does. Which was my point. If we had won a couple more than our production told us, that's one thing. But, IMO, we won quite a bit more than we should have and I believe it had much more to do with advantageous sequencing.
  20. Suzuki's 2014 was out of whack with what he normally does (like Hughes 2014) Suzuki actually had his rebound season this year.
  21. What I was saying was the talent level on this team shouldn't have given us 83 wins (glad it did though, it was nice) and Ryan isn't the type of GM that is going to add significant players to raise that talent level a good chunk for that to change. If our talent level last year was an 83 win team, then that would be different, I would be right there with you, but we were barely average in a couple areas and below average-horrible in others . AL rankings: Offense: 15th in OBP 14th in wRC+ 14th in position player WAR yet 8th in runs. Pitching: 9th in team FIP 8th in team pitching WAR 9th in rotation FIP 7th in rotation WAR Defense: 12th in DRS 10th in UZR That doesn't scream 83 win team. And it's not like the majority of this team unperformed where we'd expect bounce-back seasons. Most were in-line with what they've done most of their career (or the last few years), so it's not like we should have had 83 wins and we had a bunch of horrible performances in relation to career norms. As far as not knowing how any hitters area going to perform, you are right. Thing is though, we do know that maintaining a BABIP over .350 over a career is practically impossible, which is what pushed Murphy's OPS into the whopping .730 area. Even Miggy Cabrera doesn't have a career .350ish BABIP.
  22. Please don't take offense. It's not meant that way. If we like low cost/risk with low-medium reward type signings when we are supposedly shooting for a playoff spot and playoff success, then these three are the type you go after. And these are always the type of guys Ryan signings. It's safe. If it doesn't work out, it didn't cost much and expectations were low anyway. If it does he looks like a genius. Win-Win. At this point, I think bold is called for. I do like that you have faith in Jackson though. I hope you are right. I like him.
  23. I'd like to point out that in a season where it made no sense we had the record we did (which we all enjoyed) we WERE one step away from the playoffs. That doesn't mean it's a fact we actually are truly a team with the talent to be one step from the playoffs going into next year. And we don;t know if he can maintain his hitting. We do know that less than 200 MLB level PAs isn't anything we can draw a conclusion from. Even if we could, he had an okay OPS even with a very high BABIP and history shows only the very best hitters in the game can come close to maintaining one as high as he had last year. What happens when that goes down at least 50 points (which would still be above average?)
  24. You've just named three guys that are right up Ryan's alley to go after.
  25. Weiters and Anderson just accepted their QOs as well.
