  1. I think most of 'the hate' Punto received was misplaced. From practically everyone I talked to it had to do with how Gardenhire utilized Punto (and how he glorified Punto) than anything Punto did. what was Punto going to do? Was he supposed to say don't play me Gardy? Yeah no. Punto always gave his all and had a good attitude.
  2. I highly doubt he ever manages in the majors again
  3. 4 of the top 5 relievers for the Royals in IP last year were/are at least 30 years old (Hererra the exception). 3 of the 5 weren't drafted or originally signed by the Royals. 8 of the top 10 relievers for the Royals last year in IP were/are at least 30 (Hererra and Finnegan the exceptions), 6 of them drafted by or originally signed by teams other than Royals. That gives us every RP that threw 20 or more IP in relief for KC.. If we got to the amount of pitchers who had 10 or more IP, we add three pitchers all not drafted by the Royals and two were/are 30 or older.
  4. They were in the hunt till the end. Clearly close enough to be considered in contention. No? Weren't eliminated til the last series. That means they were clearly a playoff contender based on record. And some claim the talent warranted their record. So that makes them playoff contenders, in some people's opinions, even before improvement this offseason, no? Anyway, when is the window opening for sure? It was 2014, then 2015, then 2016, now 2017 I guess? It's a serious question I think many of us have as we keep seeing/being told that the window is moving back once again and it's just not time to go for it. I remember reading the Cubs and Twins were on the same same schedule as it was being proclaimed that Ryan was just as good as Theo and his group at rebuilding and making a contender.
  5. I am saying I am giving my honest opinions. I'd love for my honest opinion to be different quite often but that doesn't mean I'm going to say I think things are all sunshine and rainbows when I don't believe that. Before 2010 I had said I thought the team would run away with the division. It's what I honestly believed. And, again, I will point out that there are some that said this team was really, talent-wise, as good as their record was last year AND they've improved this offseason. How many games did they miss the playoffs by last year? When one says those two things, they are saying the team is a playoff contender whether they actually say those exact words or not.
  6. And how was June and July? I'm glad they rebounded. I enjoy being wrong about the record when it's in our favor. But I don't count on great sequencing to repeat. I give my opinions not on how I want things to go but by how I think they will go. I do that with players and the team. An honest evaluation of this starting lineup (offensively and defensively), rotation and bullpen does not scream playoff team. And if you think they were really as good as their record said last year (like you keep proclaiming) you should be doing what you said you'd do when they were a contending team, scream bloody murder for not going for it when the window is open. Now you are saying it's okay they go backward in record this year and that the window is now 2017? If this team was really talented enough to win as many as they did last year like you keep saying, and you say they've improved for 2016, why would you then say a step backward is acceptable? How many times is that contention window going to move before using that as an argument to not spend holds zero water?
  7. I don't think that's clear at all. I said it would be a bad signing. That he was bad offensively and defensively. That he hadn't even been worth a win the year before and I doubt he'd be worth 10M. All of that was right. I pointed out Pythag I didn't base any argument on it alone. I have openly stated BaseRuns is my preferred one over and over. And the 2014 team didn't under-perform. Bad team, bad record.
  8. One has to wonder what the team was thinking when they made the call to leave Plouffe at 3B and move Sano to the OF. IF we figure that Sano's and Plouffes offensive production will be roughly what they were last year, I would think they'd leave Sano at 3B IF they thought he was close to Plouffe on defense and let Plouffe play RF. This would keep Sano at his position and raise his value, and not hurt us so much defensively in RF. It's a reason why I think they believe Sano's defense isn't close to Plouffe defensively and decided one bad defensive spot is better than two.
  9. 'I'd have loved to added Clippard but we'll be ok without him.I sure didn't want Sipp at 3/18.This seems a lot like last year when the pessimistic fans were lamenting the Hunter signing while missing the obvious improvement of the team.I remember arguing with Mike and Jimmer to no end about the status of the rebuild and how it looked like a .500 team.Things don't seem to change.I see this team as in pretty good position and a FO that understands that it needs to see what it has. They'll be fine.' And I'm happy the team ended up over .500, but that doesn't mean the talent called for it. Sequencing was awesome for us last year (which is why we can end up with being 8th in the AL in runs while being last in the AL for OBP and 13th in OPS) and we had one huge month. Baseruns had us about 10 wins less and pythag had us three wins less. So I'm happy we outplayed it, but the talent on the team doesn't suggest we should be able to do that. And the talent hasn't changed that much, so we'll see how it works this year. I hope I'm wrong again. Then again, if I'm right, I won't be happy nor trying to minimize the opinions that differed from mine by pointing out they were wrong about their projected record. Oh, and Hunter was still a bad signing. He gave us less than a win for 10M+. Yet you keep preaching about overspending? Hunter, at the time of the signing, was a textbook definition of overpaying. And that didn't change at the end of the season. His signing wasn't a good one because we ended up with more wins than our talent dictated.
  10. Here's one thing I would have done to improve the rotation. I would have gotten quality relief help so May could be put into the rotation where he belongs as opposed to wasting his talents in the pen. We have rotation depth, just not that much high end quality to fill out a starting five, certainly not enough to waste May in the bullpen.
  11. Indeed, but Murphy's .730ish OPS was helped by playing so much in a hitter's park which gave him a BABIP of .357 (and even higher in 2014). I hope he works out but can't just praise it as a very good move because I don't trust that BABIP staying anywhere close to that high
  12. I mostly agree with this. I'd give the Murphy/Hicks a lower grade because I'm not convinced a BABIP as high as Murphy had can be sustained. Additionally, it's a backup spot, at least for 2016. Also, I don't think Park was a big risk, but I agree it's a position of un-need as you put it.
  13. You're attempting justify their inaction, and perhaps it works out as you think, but that doesn't change the fact they didn't address they bullpen like they said they needed to do. They didn't, whether you think they should have or not they clearly said they should and they didn't. Additionally, is Perkins really healthy and able to go a full year? I don't know. Do you? Does the inaction ensure May has to stay in the bullpen instead of going to the rotation where he should be? Yes.
  14. I don't think this article is about whether or not our opening day 2016 roster is an improvement on our opening day 2015 roster is it? When we look at whether or not a position has been improved, I think many of us are looking at what the team looked like towards the end of last season and comparing it to how it looks to start 2016.
  15. There are players who have excelled playing mostly DH for their careers. These players showed they weren't good enough to play defense or to stay at a defensive spot. Since the AL has a DH spot, there is nothing wrong with saying that. If Sano goes to the OF and gets hurt, hurts Buxton, or really hurts the team defensively, is his value going to be higher than just mashing the ball as a DH? Clearly he hasn't shown himself to be an acceptable defender at 3B or Plouffe would have been moved off 3B for Sano. And Sano is not an OF. He's very likely going to end up at DH. Why not do it now?
  16. Going into 2011 they raved about having 6 quality starters for 5 spots so they felt they did have backup. They had a competition for the rotation and were pleased to say they had a quality rotation and depth because they had more quality starters than spots in the rotation. Again, how did that work out when they decided to base the quality of their rotation on results from 2010?
  17. I'm not sure Hicks actually was excess, but even if he is, Murphy benefited from a very favorable BABIP and still only ended up with an OPS in the low-mid .700s. What happens when that normalizes? And still, for 2016, he's the backup for next year unless someone has heard other-wise? Whether or not it was a bad trade is debatable, but it's being touted as a plus way more than it actually deserves to be, at least going into 2016.
  18. Just because the Twins have decided not the have Sano stay at DH doesn't mean it's the right decision. Sano was the DH for a good chunk of last user and was the DH at the end of it. It is highly unlikely Park improves on how well Sano hit as DH. And I don't think it's too far of a stretch when one believes that a 6 foot 4, 260+ pound IF who has never played OF in his entire career is going to play worse, defensively, than a former multiple gold glove OF who played in the OF his whole career. Even if that experienced OF was 40+ last year.
  19. Regardless of whether or not you are tired of reading these kind of statements, it doesn't make the statement any less true.. The team stated they needed to really upgrade the bullpen and they didn't do it. They barely addressed it. And the market determines what is and isn't an overpay. Just because a team thinks a salary is an overpay doesn't mean it is. I'm glad you're happy they stayed out of what you describe as an inflated reliever market, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a serious area of concern going into the offseason and that concern hasn't been diminished in the least due to the Twins inactivity to address it.
  20. Anyway, this team failed to address the one area they themselves said they needed to upgrade. Right there it makes the offseason a failure by their own desires.
  21. And one ok year from a rotation doesn't mean it will stay that way. See 2010 to 2011 with the same guys in the rotation.
  22. Sano was the DH for a lot of last year. Park won't be an improvement there. And while Rf may improve offensively, it will go from bad to horrible defensively.
  23. We Added a backup catcher and player who played in a very offensive league and still managed a ton of Ks. He is a complete wild card may not even adapt to the majors. Still a bad rotation and bad pen. We have to put a guy who has never played OF in RF. our Lf had a sub .290 Obp. Our IF as a whole is average at best. this team has many places it should upgrade.
  24. It has been a very poor offseason for the Twins
  25. Not to mention, anyone who pays attention knows CHI wouldn't cheer the death of anyone, nor would she blatantly lie about her meaning in a post. If anyone around here deserves the benefit of the doubt, it's her. I don't doubt her integrity.
