  1. Here is Grossman's line from 2013-2015. .240/.327/.341 (that's an OPS of 668, from a corner OF). He had a wRC+ of 91 (again, from a corner OF). before taking into account his poor defense, that's bad offense from a corner OF. And for those who care, his fWAR for that time frame was 0.5.
  2. Are the Olympics still a thing? :-)
  3. That OBP is heavily influenced by an out of character first half this year. And defense matters too (or should). But yes, he's a 4th/5th OF type. Unfortunately, Rosario is also a 4th OF type.
  4. Robbie Grossman didn't just start playing MLB this year. He was called up in 2013 and got decent playing time and then got quite a bit of playing time in 2014. Neither year was good. Then he took an even worse header in 2015 causing him to be released. We don't just have this year to see what kind of player he is. Also, one doesn't need to look at the metrics and say his defense isn't good. All they have to do is watch him. The eye test and metrics match. Anyway, he's coming back down to the player he has always been after an enjoyable first half.
  5. Rockies are my NL team. I'll be at the Rockies games not this weekend but the following weekend.
  6. On the bright side, Rockies rookie Dahl has tied the record for consecutive games with at least one hit to start a career with 17. Only other guy to do it did it more than 70 year ago. Another heralded prospect coming out the gate strong.
  7. He wasn't comparing May's talent to those guys, he was saying pitchers get hurt and he gave some names. It's obvious that's what he's doing. He is right about May showing that during his time as a starter he was better than most of the dregs we have rolled out there in the past few years.
  8. Ok, well, Jason Werth and Bryant are both an inch taller and 35-40 pounds lighter than Sano, and Bryant wasn't thrown out there and told you're an OF now (or for a whole season) like was the plan for Sano. See Bryant is actually a very good fielding 3B (unlike Sano), so only when other IF need to get some time in (because the Cubs are actually loaded with legitimate positional talent) does he go to OF. And when names like Carlos Less and Dunn (who, BTW, played OF in the minors exclusively unlike Sano who never played it) are pulled out as examples of successful fielding in the OF, well, you just got to wonder how far you're willing to go to try...
  9. I always loved the Gomez/Hardy trade from the very moment it happened. It was when they traded Hardy AWAY that I was pissed.
  10. Gomez was in the upper half of WAR for CFs just last year, even though he only played 111 games and had less than 500 PAs. I'm not 100% sure he's done.
  11. Except the perception is wide spread. Keith Law just got done saying he'd like to see how Buxton would be if he got a chance in another organization. During a recent MLB Network morning show (MLB Central) they too wondered about the system and said they thought they were furthest along. This isn't just a Fangraphs chat thing (where they have to answer questions quickly). Others who have much more time say the same things. And maybe having 6 drafts with 11 first rounders do absolutely nothing is part of that perception ('06-'11). And so far '12 isn't looking too good either.
  12. I'm fine with having Polanco at shortstop.
  13. It's his life and if he wants to try it I say good luck to him.
  14. Bryant is an inch taller and 35-40 pounds lighter than Sano. Bryant is the same height as Jason Heyward (who plays a mean OF), but actually 10 pounds lighter. Bryant was also not thrown out there and told OF is now your permanent home for the season.
  15. We offered 7M, he asked for 7.9M, and they agreed to 7.25M before it actually went to an arbitrator.
  16. Please, PLEASE challenge Kepler. I dare ya!
  17. does any team employ only 11 pitchers on a regular basis?
  18. I think 12-14 in arbitration is a stretch. 9 or 10 perhaps, but with him being hurt this year and his numbers not shining this year, 12-14 seems a bit steep. But yeah, 2/12 he wouldn't and shouldn't take.
  19. People are suggesting he has no trade value. People are suggesting he should just be non-tendered. People have said he's not good at all. The word garbage hasn't been used to describe him though, you're right.
  20. oh no, PLENTY of posters here were convinced he was athletic enough to play the OF just fine. let's not pretend there weren't. but I hope your beliefs about his defense become fruitful.
  21. telling you, this team is fun to watch right now. they are in the zone.
