  1. Gibson last night: 73 strikes, 42 balls. IF Gonzalez is throwing pitches off the table to try and induce Ks, I'd like that as opposed to trying to throw every pitch in the zone at every count. Cause usually that results in Gibson's normal results.
  2. 9 strike outs probably had a bit to do with it. I'm not sure if 66 strikes compared to 39 balls is bad. Maybe it is? It's like 1.75 balls throw per batter. Is that bad, especially if he's baiting them to strike out guys. like dropping one off the table to get them to chance isn't about control issues, it's a pitch thrown with purpose.
  3. He's not even on the 40 Man roster and this is a lost season. No need to get his clock rolling by adding him to the 40 man and bringing him up now.
  4. Been saying this for at least two years. DH him. It's where he will end up. In any event, I'm not pushing to keep Plouffe, but this idea that we should just let him go for nothing seems like an unfair view of what Plouffe worked his behind off to become.
  5. I'm right there with you. Don't do Facebook, don't do twitter, none of it.
  6. Yup. And, as a bonus, he was a 1st round pick. another top notch selection. 11 first round picks from '06-11, not a good one in the bunch.
  7. There are also people saying Plouffe should just be let go when he was worth over 6 WAR between 2014 and 2015. I still think he wasn't traded because Ryan never tried to trade him.
  8. I didn't say it was his fault, whatever that is supposed to mean. I said one needs to look at who he was pitching against before letting this game get everyone ramped up again about Gibson's potential. I also never said don't offer him arbitration. I wouldn't, however, buy out any free agent years.
  9. Metrodome, for all it's faults, was still better than what the As have to play in. What a dump.
  10. Plouffe has had an off year for sure (mostly due to injury I imagine) but this is a guy who was worth over 6 WAR combined between 2014 and 2015. He may be the least wanted Twins on the team now that Nolasco is gone, but we could very well be giving away real value if we just let him walk.
  11. I'm glad he had a good game, but some perspective. Last night was his 7th quality start in 17 attempts this year and it was against the team that has 23 less runs scored than the team that is 29th in scoring. In fact, he's only had 4 quality starts this year against top half offenses (Boston, Texas, Baltimore and LA Angels).
  12. All MLB players have good games here and there. Even bad defenders make an occasional great play. Even horrible hitters can have a nice streak, etc. Gibson has had 7 quality starts out of 17 games started this year. He'll be 29 going into next season and we're talking about his potential still? Had these same conversation last year around this time when so many said he had turned corner. He is what he is now. He's not anything close to a consistent MLB starter (or a good one, for that matter). He's a borderline #4/#5 starting pitcher, at best. He not the kind of guy you plan to keep past his arbitration years.
  13. I love Coors Field too. I will be there this weekend for the Rockies/Cubs series.
  14. Invented in Long Island in Tennessee during prohibition, traditional Long Island Iced Tea is a drink with 5 different shots, but sometimes only 4 at a time. Like some prefer tequila in it and some don't. Some prefer gin in it, and some don't. The steadies are Rum, Triple Sec and Vodka. there are variations, of course.
  15. Buxton was drafted in 2012. Preseason 2013, after only playing in rookie ball for 48 games in 2012 and not having even reached A Ball, he was listed: 10th by BA. 19th by MLB. 8th by BP. He has, quite literally, never been out of the top 20 as a prospect in a preseason poll by the big three in which he was a professional player
  16. nothing about the twins? Sad news.
  17. Anyway, I'm done with the HOF debating in this thread. Hopefully Dave Cameron will provide more stuff for people to argue about in his chat today.
  18. I don't think being mild-mannered excludes a person from wanting to be considered one of the all-time greats in their profession.
  19. Well, no there's a link I provided that clearly shows the financial advantages HOF players get as HOFer. But it was just done by the Wall Street journal, who clearly knows nothing about finance and didn't research the article at all. And I'm in my mid 40s, but ok. I understand how us young whipper-snappers don't get the wisdom provided by our elders. Must have been a heck of a time polling everyone in your age group to get a majority opinion on this subject.
  20. Though I haven't been to them all, Camden Yards is easily my favorite.
  21. Again, your opinion. And I doubt it's close to correct. Plenty of players have said other-wise, and plenty of them have outright pushed to be elected HOFers when they weren't getting votes. Also, you understand there's a monetary advantage to being a HOFer right? Players can charge more for signings, for lectures, for appearances when they are a HOFer. http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052970203547904574279891736968048 You want to believe players don't really care, I say there's almost no chance that the vast majority agree with that. There are 69 living members right now (63 players). That's a select group.
  22. Yes, some people are frustrated. Some people have ridiculous beliefs, like believing a #2 draft pick who has been a top 20 prospect for four years straight and a top 2 prospect for three years straight should not be completely and utterly overmatched at the plate. I'm not sure why it's wrong to hold that player to higher expectations than we would a 5th round player not in the top 100. It's not that he isn't reaching ridiculous expectations. He's not meeting the mildest expectations. he doesn't look close to being able to meet even modest expectations. Oh, and P.S., I doubt too many people truly believed Buxton was the next Trout. Trout is a once in a generation player. May end up the best player a good chunk of us have ever actually seen play while we were alive and baseball fans.
  23. Well, considering Kepler's BABIP is like 135 points lower than Santana's was his rookie year... Of course, Kepler could fall off an have a slump, but if he does, it'll be for different reasons.
  24. I haven't had a Long Island Iced Tea in about 10 years (maybe longer). I know the last time I had them with any regularity was 2004 (before I went to Germany). I still remember that they are delicious. :-)
