  1. Bottom line is that no sane person thought Sano in the OF was a good idea. Also if Molitor was complicit in that decision and not just following orders he should have been fired along with Ryan. As far as Schwarber goes he hasn't really played enough game in the OF to make any definitive decision on whether he can or should play out there either. He probably needs to play on an AL team.
  2. Lot of hate for a guy whose only role is as a color guy. I'm guessing a lot of the haters don't remember the days of Frank Quilici & Harmon in the booth. The real question is "Can he pitch?"
  3. The only benefit those types of guys offer is to keep some guys who should spend more time on the farm doing so. This club does a great job of advancing guys thru the low minors in an orderly fashion. But it seems that once they hit the high minors management starts reading the blogs and promotes too many of them too early. If the presence of Dean and Albers kept Gonsalves from getting screwed up too soon at the big level I'm OK with that.
  4. If you're telling me that the biggest chip you're getting in return for the first guy in over 40 years to hit 40 home runs for your team is a guy you're pegging as your # 4 starter while pushing Berrios or May out of said rotation I'm recommending you be drug tested. I'm probably less sold on Dozier as the best 2B alternative we have than anyone in the state but C'mon Man, If you move him now you'd better get a HUGE haul BIGLY.
  5. Grossman might be OK as a platoon/DH but keeping him in that role means taking big league at bats away from the likes of Vargys, Park, Walker, Palka and even Rosario & Kepler. No thanks. Nothing to see here. Move along.
  6. Have to disagree just a little bit with the statement that Napoli is the type of guy that Ryan could never get. Someone else mentioned Thome in response to that statement but actually Josh Willingham's first year here was almost a mirror of Napoli's first in Cleveland, right down to the salary. Granted, the next 2 years didn't work out so well but I'll take 35 home runs and 110 RBI for $7 million six ways to Sunday.
  7. Wasn't really a proposal to change from a draft to a money pool system. Since there currently is no draft for international players my statement was that I'd like to see one and see no reason why it should be separate from the regular draft.
  8. "Some of the Twins' top prospects have made the jump from Double-A to the big leagues but Gordon still has some flaws. Huge issue with this team. Guys work thru the lower minors in an orderly fashion, one level a year and when the get to the upper minors we promote within a half season or less and then wonder why they struggle at the big level. See: Buxton, Byron.
  9. Sports is not a free market entity. If it were you 'd have a few big market teams as the only ones able to compete and eventually as the only ones to exist. Baseball is the closest of the major sports to being a free market. And look at what you have in the final 4: 3 huge markets and one relatively small one. Totally in favor of an international draft but don't know why it would have to be a separate draft-just include them in the current draft. Problem solved.
  10. If May is not in the rotation he's your closer. And somebody should be fired.
  11. I agree totally. His play, metrics and feel for the position should all improve with additional time to get acclimated to playing there. Some will criticize the organization for not playing him there in his last year in the minors but try to remember that although Dozier hit .242 in the month preceding Polanco's most recent call up and .369 in June, he hadn't topped .216 in any of the 5 preceding months. Dozier had given them good reason to get their top high minors infield prospect ready to replace him. The REAL question here is, if Dozier is not moved, which Dozier do we see in 2017?
  12. So you're saying he's Huston Street.
  13. We ASSUME that we've got the right guy, that we've got a better guy, that we've got a guy "who is willing to do what needs to be done." We actually KNOW none of that. All General Managers act like they know better than the other teams do. I would not want one that didn't. The object of the game is to know better than the other teams do. Unfortunately, only one GM gets to make that claim each year.
  14. If I'm pursuing a catcher with a .210 BA he'd better be able to frame Curt Young into Cy Young.
  15. That's not what we were sold three years ago.
  16. Not sure, but I think you may have just turned the clock back a few years and traded Dozier for Alex Meyer.
  17. Don't that kinda make your head spin a bit.
  18. IF the Twins get their affairs in order they SHOULD have far better options than Santiago. IF!!!!!!!!
  19. Pretty sure there were a lot folks pushing Hale for this job. They're pretty quiet these days--not that Hale's done worse than our guy.
  20. Maybe old age is affecting my memory but I seem to recall a lot of folks hoping Hale would get our gig. Truth be told he's getting canned after a better 2 year run than our guy has had but that may be more of a reflection of the lack of return on their asset investment.
  21. My money's on Billy the Goat.
  22. Anyone remember way back when the D-Backs were geniuses for bringing in Tony Larussa who begat Dave Stewart who begat Chip Hale? SEE YA!
  23. I don't know that it matters.
  24. I tend to agree but we don't get a vote.
  25. Don't think anybody is saying he is ''fixed". He doesn't need to be "fixed". He's not even broken. He just needs to develop and mature. Fun fact that may or may not have changed over the last 3 weeks: He's never faced a major league pitcher younger than him. He's young. He's going to make mistakes. He may struggle from time to time. He may also realize the potential that's been talked about since before he was drafted. He may not as well. That's why they play the games.
