  1. That was then, this is now. Maybe the Twins if the Twins add a player at the deadline, they look to a batter on a team that hammered Pablo. Maybe that batter can tell us what he was told about Pablo. Maybe he’s tipping his pitches.
  2. Mays actually won two World Series: 1951 (He was in the on-deck circle when Bobby Thomson hit the “Shot Heard Round the World” to win the Series) AND the 1954 Series which the Giants swept and in which Mays made “The Catch”!!! Both series finished before I was born, I didn’t start paying attention to baseball until 1961 (barely) but became a fanatic long before the Twins appearance in the 1965 World Series.
  3. Mine is only the third comment for the greatest player of the last 70 years. I posted a comparison to Twins HOFers on the regular Twins thread. Rip me if you think it’s just a ploy to get more views for Willie. I plea Guilty.
  4. I posted a comparison to Twins HOFers on a Twins thread. Maybe it’s just an excuse to get more views of today’s Twins fans on the remarkable career of the greatest baseball player of my long lifetime. So rip me - I can take it.
  5. I’m sure some of you are having an “OK Boomer” moment as you watch the accolades given to Willie Mays (who died yesterday). Really, you watch “The Catch” and you will say that you see the equivalent on Sportscenter ten times every season, right? Wrong - Mays combined all five tools with longevity like nobody before or since. By the time I started paying attention to baseball in the sixties, Mays had played over a decade of his phenomenal style five tool baseball and he was still the best player in the game. In 1971, at age 40, he had an OPS of .907. Willie Mays excelled at all five tools with longevity. Comparing Mays to the greatest Twins: Killebrew: Didn’t have the speed Puckett and Oliva: Didn’t have the longevity Mauer and Carew: Didn’t have the power Mays was the Michael Jordan of Baseball in his day - and that should be “OK” with the rest of you, even if I am a “Boomer”.
  6. There is a former Cy Young Award winner out there. His stats this year in Mexico and last two years in Japan were excellent. The Astros are apparently interested in signing. him. His accuser in the USA has now been indicted for trying to defraud the pitcher. He was reportedly a clubhouse pariah before being basically blacklisted by MLB. But he’s out there - Trevor Bauer. At 33, he’s more likely to behave himself.
  7. Hopefully, they bring back Wallner. He has performed well in St Paul and has earned the call-up.
  8. The Twins at this time need to protect Jair Cammargo and any other catcher with a pulse. There is a lack of available depth at this position. Christian Vasquez is not producing and an injury to Ryan Jeffers would put the team in a bad position.
  9. Nope - The idea isn’t NICE, the idea is NIKE. Sell more stuff, that’s all.
  10. It’s called City Connect, but the logo is for our State - MN. Count me in the detractor camp.
  11. Make peace with Doug Mientkiewicz and bring him in to manage this team. He can kick some butts.
  12. Joe Ryan had another good start yesterday against the Pirates. He is deserving. Jeffers should probably go too. That’s it realistically.
  13. All two could be back, Lee could be here for the first time (cue uo that song by Foreigner). Meanwhile, glad to see Jarrett Whorff is pitching tonight for Wichita (Cue up the theme from Star Trek: The Next Generation for the Twins only Klingon player ever).
  14. Here is where I jump ship. I like the controversy. Balls and strikes calls give us something to argue about. I don’t want the game sterilized too much.
  15. Bailey Ober would disagree. He was exasperated over the lousy balls and strikes calls tonight.
  16. Is there anyone other than me who thought the home plate umpire, on the close pitches, clearly favored the Yankee pitchers over the Twins pitchers tonight? it wasn’t just one or two pitches.
  17. In the Roster Moves thread, it’s been reported that Eddy Julien has been sent to St Paul. Royce Lewis will likely be called back next. I suspect Brooks Lee will be here before August. Meanwhile, Miranda will play more 1B and DH and Kirilloff will spend more time in the outfield. The newest bubble members are Margot and Santana.
  18. One catcher not mentioned is Alejandro Kirk. Who has seen his offensive stats plummet over the past two seasons. It’s nice to have a catcher (or any player) on the rise.
  19. Should they stay or should they go! When Buxton and Lewis return: Should Go - Margot and Santana Will Go: Martin and Miranda Miranda backs up 1B, 3B and DH. Martin backs up at CF and SS and can pinch-run I know it’s too early for the two vets Margot and Santana, but they are not as versatile Tell me why I’m wrong (yes, I liked last week’s barrage of home runs from Carlos Santana - I get it!).
  20. If he is so family-oriented, then he needs to find out the number of degrees between him and former Twin Mark Salas.
  21. Michael A Taylor is batting .296 (but has zero HRs and zero RBIs). Christian Vasquez continues to be a disappointment. .
  22. Nice anrticle. López and Ryan are certainly two of the bright spots in this disappointing season (so far). One measure of that disappointment is that Ryan’s achieved career high of 12 strike-outs against Detroit last weekend. Twelve strike-outs??? That seems like an average day at the beach for this Twins line-up!!!!
  23. Byron needs to atone for his sin of promoting Wisconsin Sausages. What’s wrong with Hormel and Schweiggert?
