  1. Esco is 23rd in the league in WAR, and 17th in OPS. He’ll be 30 before next year starts. This is his payday, so if you think he’s signing a two year deal for less aav than what Lance Lynn got this year, you’re crazy. I assume the conversation starts at 3/45, and you could probably get him for anywhere from 2/36 to 5/65. I’d go with 3/45, and call it a day with Mr. Dozier.
  2. Don’t look now, but Eddie Rosario in the month of June has more homeruns than strikeouts. Not coincidentally, and perhaps more importantly, he also has more walks than strikeouts in June.
  3. It feels like there is just a big disconnect between Falvine and Molitor, in how they look at the game and approach it. I can't shake the suspicion that Falvine was going to part ways with Molitor at the end of last season and get their own guy, but the surprising run to the playoffs forced them to keep Paul around.
  4. Lynn over 100 pitches, clearly starting to lose it, and Molitor keeps him in. Does Molly want to get fired?
  5. Since we're going out on limbs, what if we traded with Atlanta for Freddie Freeman, and forced him to change his name to Eddie Eeman? That works, right?
  6. Dozier is not on his game right now. That first pitch was a high fastball, inner half. That should have been crushed.
  7. If the Twins trade Lynn at the deadline, can the acquiring team use a qualifying offer on him, or does he automatically become a UFA at the end of the year?
  8. 5 pitches in that at bat, 4 not close, and still a strikeout. Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2018 Twins Offense!
  9. How many Eduardos/Edwards/Eds/Eddies are currently major league hitters? I feel like we should trade for at least 7 of them.
  10. Trout this year against Twins pitching: 2/22 with no XBH, 6 walks, 7 strikeouts, .091/.310/.091. Best player in baseball my butt.
  11. My theory on Lynn is that he's pissed he didn't get the multiyear, $80M contract he was looking for. He's even more pissed he ended up signing with a team that offered him a deal that was a "non-starter", and accordingly, he's just going through the motions a bit. It's completely short-sighted of course--have a kickass year, and get that big deal next year, but I just can't understand how a solid pitcher can all of the sudden become so poor, without mental disposition playing a role. As for Morrison at first--UZR/150 has him at 17.3. He's not that good I'm sure, but he was at 0.0 last year in 1000 innings, which suggests he's not bad at first. Mauer is at 8.6, and was at 7.6 last year, for what it's worth.
  12. It’s not quite that simple. 100 pitches over 6 innings is less wear and tear than 100 pitches over 8 innings due to the stress of additional warm-ups, and the arm cooling down and heating up more often. I have to think smart organizations that have millions invested in pitchers take both into account in a much more scientific way than I can.
  13. Count me in the camp of those who would rather have Escobar than Dozier even if the money was the same. Since Esco will probably be cheaper, I would be more than happy to warmly applaud Dozier whenever he returns to Target Field next year with his new team.
  14. The Mariners might be even iffier than the Halos—17 of their 20 wins are against teams at or below .500 (they’ve won 5 of 7 against Cleveland). Their wins against teams with winning records is 1 of 2 against SF, 1 of 4 against Houston, and 1 of 2 against Toronto. This isn’t to say the Twins will get a wild card spot for sure, I just think it’s way too early to have a Central-or-Bust mindset. And while I agree I want no part of a one game play-in in NY or Boston, even if we win the central, assuming a Yankee/Sox victory in the play-in game, we’re getting the Yankees, Sox, or Stros in the first round.
  15. Let’s hold off on anointing the angels just yet. They have 5 wins over Oakland, 3 over Texas, 3 over KC, and 3 over Baltimore. That’s 14 of their 22 wins over teams that are a combined 53-93–essentially the 2016 Twins. They have 6 wins against teams above .500, including 2 against Houston. They have played 3 against both BOS and NYY, getting swept by the Red Sox 27-3 and the Yankees 17-5; both series were in Anaheim. Trout and Ohtani are formidable to be sure, but there’s a lot to suggest the Angels are benefitting from a weak early schedule, and the Twins can certainly catch them thanks to 52 games remaining against the dregs of the central, as well as returns from important players.
  16. Not having a limit on investment is also a good way to throw good money after bad.
  17. 1. Alternate theory--what if what we call light beer is actually beer, and what we call beer is actually heavy beer? 2. For people who need to get to sleep, but still want the taste of dirty runoff water 3. Seems like you answered your own question 4. So long as you wash it out of their coats once it's cooled them down, sure 5. I'm waiting for Space L--it should be 5 times more awesome.
  18. Like a tollbooth? Jersey Turnpike or Phantom variety?
  19. Gibson—playoff caliber starter? Anything’s possible, I suppose...
  20. I guarantee there are overs offered every day. Always on Twins runs and bullpen innings pitched.
  21. I’m cautiously optimistic that Petit taking Dozier’s spot is indicative that Molitor is going to start asserting himself with Dozier, re no more batting lead off.
  22. What is John Gibbons doing? Even if Pillar is safe, the Blue Jays have 5 more innings against Twins pitching. They’ll have plenty more opportunities to score runs.
  23. Yup—every 3rd/4th/5th starter approaching free agency secretly wants to murder Lance Lynn right now. Also Tony Clark.
