  1. Just need to clarify, it's James A Garfield, not James B Garfield. Also, at least according to ESPN, the stadium is not on generators, but rather a part of the grid that is up. Apparently, a construction worker accidentally damaged (a portion of?) the grid earlier today.
  2. I just looked it up--home run in German is home run.
  3. JONRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Enjoy it while it lasts. At this usage rate he'll be done by August.
  5. yeah, you know, wheels. The most exciting invention during Chief's lifetime.
  6. It's so slow, even the Houston radio crew has decided to spend their time discussing famous (and not-so-famous) twins. As in children conceived at the same time, not Minnesota baseballers.
  7. Oh, it's all good! That's what makes game threads/baseball so much fun--there's so many different ways to approach the game, so its endlessly fun to debate what the best philosophy is. And unlike other sports, there's actually room within the pace of play to have those conversations.
  8. Ok, but I prefer that even more in late innings. If we're down 1 in the 8th, and Buxton gets a single/walk, I'm all good with that automatically turning into runners on first and second. Baserunners are a good thing, particularly when you have your best average/OBP hitter at the plate.
  9. That's my point--just because Buxton is on second doesn't mean managers will automatically IBB Dozier, which was the argument the other poster was making. My view is that when Buxton gets on base, I want Dozier and Mauer batting behind him, not Castro and (today at least) Adrianza.
  10. That doesn't make sense though--we don't want Dozier hitting with a runner on second but not first, because he'll just get intentionally walked every time? He's not Barry Bonds, and if opposing managers really want to give Mauer a lot of PA's with runners on first and second, I'm all for it.
  11. This is why I would like to have Dozier hitting behind Buxton. When Buck gets on, you want to throw fastballs to help keep Buxton from stealing. But you definitely don't want to throw fastballs to Dozier.
  12. It was the Cleveland radio team who famously dubbed Gibson Mr. Nibbles last year. Still one of my favorite nicknames ever.
  13. Is that this guy just throwing drinks in the general direction of people's open mouths?
  14. Eddie with a walk! What is happening?
  15. When Brian stops being obstinate about batting leadoff. The foolishness of batting 1 of your 2 best power hitters leadoff comes not from the Twins, but from Mr. Dozier.
  16. Steve Sparks, Houston's radio color analyst, expresses his amazement that Correa often bats with runners on base. Funny how that works when you bat immediately after Jose Altuve.
  17. Suggesting that as long as you pass out on top of your desk you're fine?
  18. So what you’re telling me here is that Dozier is ever so slightly better than Blackmon when Coors is not a factor, but Blackmon is massively better when it is. Unless the Rockies plan to relocate out of the mountains, or if we’re now saying replacement level players can OPS .1000 at Coors, why should it matter if the Rockies take the Coors Effect into consideration, given that, you know, they play half their games there.
  19. SSS this year, his righty ERA is 27. In 2016 it was 4.16, in 2015 it was 4.29. You have to go back to 2014 for him to have an ERA under 4 against righties. So perhaps the reason he only faced 31 righties last year is because he's no longer effective against them? And perhaps the Twins should relocate him to Loogyville BEFORE it's necessary, rather than after?
  20. The Pirates have NINE walks today. Fire Alston!
  21. If only Duke had given up a homer instead of a triple, he would, fascinatingly, be a Three True Outcomes pitcher. Every batter he faced would have homered, walked, or struck out.
  22. Last year Duke had an 8.22 ERA against righties. By all means, keep letting him pitch to righties, I don't see how this could possibly go wrong.
