Twodogs

I agree, many have written Romero off, but there are an awful lot of pitchers out there that have had struggles and then all of the sudden figure it out. It would be nice to have a dude who throws 97 figure it out. I don't like the idea of automatically putting Grateral in the bullpen, my hope is that the long term plan is to have him remain a starter. But it could be the long term plan, I know they started with Johan in the bullpen and worked him into the rotation eventually. Here's to hoping Grateral becomes the next Johan Santana.

Without Astrudillo, Everytime Avila catches Garver will have to ride the pine. Can't really DH your only backup catcher. I'm pretty sure Cave is the best option for the 25th man and Astrudillo should be the 26th man by about May. I'd say early in the year to go with the 26th man in the BP. Then as the starting pitching gets more reps, to drop the extra bullpen arm and bring in Astrudillo.

Now that they should have a grip on the sign stealing, a lot of pitchers "could" look a lot different come playoff time??

This might explain our infield defense??

I think the only thing the Twins realistically would or could do would be to bring in Tajuan Walker on a one year deal. Wood went to the Dodgers for 4 mill, so something like that. Just to add depth and then roll with the best 5 until the deadline and then maybe go and get someone. If he avoids blisters Hill could be real good in October. He has proven to be lights out before. So they are going to roll with what they have while they develop Grateral, Balazovich, etc... I think they are looking at these guys as our Bieber's and Cleveinger's, etc.... Hope it works out.

Honestly, I'd rather have Donaldson a guy who is an everyday player vs a guy who goes once a week.

I didnt want to read through all 6 pages of this so some of this may be redundant, if so I am sorry. But here goes my rant. I feel that this is probably actually worse than PED use. Just because of the simple fact that a whole team has to participate in this as opposed to onr player. So some dude on your team could be juicing and everyone else could be clean and doing things the right way. Do you get mad at the whole group because of one guy? With what the Astros have been accused of everyone knows what they are doing and obviously approved of it, so in retrospect it would be likened to gang mentality. So what's worse in a court of law? One guy commits a crime, or a gang committed a crime?? Think about that for a second. Also, what about You Darvish? What would have his stock looked like in his free agent year had the Astros not been sign stealing during the world series?? I mean had he not gotten blown up in the world series by the Astros don't you think he would have maybe even made more money in the off season? I mean guys like Kershaw and a plethora of other players could make the same claim? Don't you think some of these guys could sue the Astros for lost wages??? Maybe Scott Boras should get on this band wagon?? Last, and in my opinion will be the least popular, but at one point in time the players took care of this stuff all by themselves. I mean if you were stealing signs off of Rob Dibble what would have happened? Nolan Ryan? What would have happened if you were stealing Nolan's signs? Tom Seaver? Bob Gibson? Dave Stewart? I mean we could sit here all day with this one. They say let the kids play, which is fine, I like a few bat flips here and there, but then they should also let the kids police themselves a little bit too. You let the players take care of this stuff and I guarantee less of it happened.

Let's hope they don't reduce the juice in the baseball.

Yeah it was just an idea, but now that they signed Donaldson it's a moot point. Yayyyy

Kepler has some experience playing first? That would allow Castellanos to move into Right Field?? 58 doubles and 27 bombas are hard to ignore??

Well the one thing about Donaldson in 22 and 23 is that Cruz will be gone and at that point Donaldson can DH a lot of the season, pretty sure that would save on his body a little bit when he is 36 and 37, plus he can focused more on his hitting then also. So he'd still have a spot in the lineup even when he's a little older. So in my mind it's not the best excuse to not go after him.

Speaking of Red Sox. The Twins could just sign Mitch Moreland to a 1 year deal. He has decent power, decent on base%, good fielder and then just leave Sano at 3rd for another year. Plus it doesn't really block Krilloff or Lanarch, either one of those guys, whoever has the ability to make the club could work a couple of games a week in at 1st also. I can't see Moreland being expensive. I'd liken it to kind of getting a better fielding version of CJ Cron??

Yes within reason. I mean you can't put Nelson Cruz in the infield. But yeah, Polanco is bad, but with the way they do things now it's just not as important.

Plus, with all of the shifts teams play nowadays defense doesn't really matter that much. So yeah that even helps Polanco more. It's not like you need an Ozzie Smith anymore, either the hitters hit the ball into the shift and they are out, or they hit it away from the shift. Defense is no longer crucial in the infield.

I would think hit distance would be the biggest indicator of regression. In fact a different ball may be harder to hit all together, if the ball isn't so smooth and hard then the pitchers will be able to get the ball to move more and it's possible that the overall amount of contact will be down. They better watch what they play with as far as changing things.

Looks like the Nats are backing out for sure, and the twins are basically saying they are done, so now Atlanta realistically can lower their offer, go back to 3 years or something like that and now there is this sticking point where no one is signing??? Could that be happening? I mean Atlanta has Riley a rookie last year and Camargo who isn't terrible that all play 3B. Atlanta has real good pitching so they don't really need Donaldson for 4 years. This might blow up in his face.

I was just looking him up after I posted that, and Russell has also had domestic violence issues in the past, so depending upon how bad those were the Twins might not want to bring him on board anyway?? I don't know the whole story, but I just remember all of the issues Sano had and that can't be easy for a club to have to deal with. I was just looking around and looking for some lottery tickets.

What about Addison Russell? Could he man SS which would slide Polanco to 2B and Arraez to 3B and allow Sano to go to 1B? I know he had a big year a couple of years ago and has not really gotten full playing time since Baez came around, but he would be a step up Fielding wise I comparison to Polanco wouldn't he? I don't have access to all of the fielding numbers and whatnot but I just know he is a guy that is out there and he's only 25 and I believe he is a FA also? Correct?

Yeah im hoping that Thorpe does well. But my point was that Gonsalves also was a top ranked pitcher at one point in time, and had amassed a lot of K's in the minors. However, I do not know what his swing and miss rate was? But a lot of K's he had and he also seemed to walk quite a few guys too. So that was my Thorpe comparison, because Thorpe also doesn't throw extremely hard either. I hope Thorpe does well, it just seemed weird to dump Gonsalves so quickly? But it is what it is at this point. I also suppose if you have too many of Gonsalves/Thorpe types of pitchers you probably run into some redundancy also.

Thorpe seems to me sort of similar to Gonsalves, he had a lot of minor league K's but didn't seem to be able to actually blow people away. Gonsalves was also highly rated in the system, but didn't seem to get much of a shot before being left off of the 40 man. Hopefully Thorpe does well.

The longer this drags out the less likely I feel that he will be signing for the Twins.

So I'd say Bailey, as poor to average as he has been over his career, he still has had a career. Sort of, so he has at different points in time, had some success. Last year was one of those years. Whereas Perez started the year very hot, then he really faded down the stretch. I was shocked at how hard he was throwing at the beginning of the year, it seemed like he lost some of that velocity as the year wore on? Everyone was surprised at the 95-96 mph at the beginning of the year and they were comparing him to Johan Santana. So he definitely had the stuff at one point, then it disappeard? So I kinda though they would have brought him back, they had an option on him, maybe do a little more fixing, but they didn't. So now we have Bailey, he has done some stuff in his career, now we will see if the Twins can squeeze out one good year out of him.

I was still hoping for them to take a shot at Walker or Wood? I mean they surly don't have the rotation all locked up at this point, but I do see that the 40 man is now full. So I am guessing that they won't take a shot at some more lightning in a bottle, albeit, 27 and 29 year old lightning in a bottle as opposed to 34 and 40 year old lightning... So it looks as though they are done. I mean even if they bring on Donaldson they are going to have to do something about that pesky 40 man??

Dang Gonsalves's minor league numbers are impressive. He seems to walk a lot of guys, which most likely is what hurt him in his brief stint with the Twins, but for some reason, a non flamethrower, you'd think that something like that would be fixable?? Seems weird to me that as pitching starved as the Twins are that they would have protected him??

Thanks
