  2. I still think this would be a good trade, however, I did assume that we would get more back (I just didn't deliniate the same). I have to assume that Willingham has peaked this year, and Morneau's salary is an albatross. Do I hope Justin will have a great year...yep, love the guy, but predictors for both are looking down (age, injuries, etc.). If we are rebuilding, and I think we are, trade them now or at the deadline depending on the offers. If Texas offers Olt and a high upside pitching prospect in the A-AA range, I still take it.
  3. Lew, Sign anyone with an arm and we can pass K. Corr through waivers. No ones is taking that salary on.
  4. It's a minor league contract. TR, JR, or FDR for that matter can/should/will sign anyone they want to fill out the minors roster. The only reason we should be getting upset at this at all is if it gets so bad the Twins actually call him up again (without earning it.....it's always possible he could have a BABIP of .500). If he did "earn" a call up, 2013 went as bad as we all think it will. Then again, the Twins are probably building for 2014-2015, and very few GM's are going to overtly say "We're going to suck this year, but stick with us, eventually, we'll be .500 again." I'm on record saying I like the moves TR made this year (DISCLAIMER: K.CORR didn't happen, we're all in a shared dream).
  5. River...you're supposed to agree with me, to prove the Forks stand united.
  6. I can't see him pitching to value under that contract. I'd pass.
  7. I don't think I've ever agreed with Dave on something like this, but man I would love that trade. Olt to 3rd, Plouffe to 2nd......give them Dozier if they want a third piece....this also would provide protection from Sano's likely move to first, frees up Parmalee out of lost ville (population 1) and for the craps of it, bring up Arcia and Hicks when the timing is right to keep them under control longer. --> And this is why this would never happen.
  8. Give up a switch hitting, defensive centerfielder for Mark Buehle (version 2013); I'll pass. Now if they eat salary and want someone like Vargas I may be interested.
  9. lol... It would be an interesting team to watch. C AJ 1B Adam Dunn 2B Yunel Escobar 3B Hanley SS Jose Reyes LF Colby Rasmus CF BJ Upton RF Justin Upton DH Delmon Manny and Milton on the bench. Stephen Drew and JD Drew on the bench. Carlos Zambrano on the mound... Josh Beckett. K rod in the pen. Or we can just look at the Red Sox and Marlins this year... Start with those clubs and make them worse. Can we trade Delmon, but keep his moustache on the team?
  10. Parker, Thanks for the article. I have a question about hitter development in relation to the above. Although player development factors by individual, I've always wondered why the overly passive hitter isn't viewed as a development bonus in contrast to the strikeout prone.
  11. Sorry to hijack your thread, but I can't help but wonder if this is thought process is causing the forums to be exclusionary. I have to admit, far-fetched trade possibilities don't interest me to a huge degree, but posts like this make newbies to this site just choose to sit out. In other words, by pushing the concept that the initiates do not have intelligent thought, you are likley holding back the learning process and potentially excluding people who have thoughts that interest you.
  12. I would sign him in a heartbeat......but only if he will accept a minor league assignment. I think Carl's asset value at this point is probably best used to spot start (in situations like: [break this case in case of devastating pitcher injury emergency]. What I am more interested in is his ability to work with younger pitchers to develop their pitching skill (a la Scott Diamond ). Carl can work with the young guys, and should his arm magically rejuvinate...mores the good to us. Do I think he would take this kind of deal....no [+1 Glanzer], but I can dream, right?
  13. Your obsession with "Call Me Maybe" references is starting to worry me Parker...
  14. I agree. Primarily, making this team better is a big "it depends". If you are not going to pay for a few free agent pitchers, you have to trade someone to get pitching. Span seems to be the asset we can potentially live without (maybe moving Morneau).
  15. At the risk of getting destroyed (and I practically worshipped Kirby), Kirby had a better team around him.
  16. I view much of this as smokescreen/not tipping my hand info. I've seen enough JR over the years to know his pension for dumpster squatting, but I really believe they are not satisfied with what we have to sign a Marcum/Jackson level pitcher (and likely take a long look at Baker's progress). I'll wait it out to get upset.
  17. Brock, The lead-in picture wins the award for most hilarious pitching face duo.
  18. In doing some research and reading through the forum posts, I've noticed a fairly deep divide in the TR (JR) camp, and the let's-rebuild-the-front-office-camp. I curious, for those who aren't in favor of the Twins drafting/scouting, which picks didn't you like (and as a bonus, who would you have drafted instead....more bonus points for suggesting someone who was available instead of the pick you didn't like). Although this was discussed a bit in and around the draft, some small sample size data isn't too much of a hinderance.
  19. Benefit of the Doubt: Maybe he's arguing against the front office? At this point, who else gets the ball to start 2013?
  20. http://c-product.images.dreamsretail.com/63-14/63-14248-Y.jpgProbably should get MLB on the phone too.
  21. So is saying "under team control" any different (see also every sportswriter/blogger)? Dick is really being taken out of context, and I agree with the vast majority here (not that majority). As for being called a honkey...well that's just hilarious, but I prefer....Role Models: Ronnie Shields: Suck it, "Reindeer Games"! Danny: I'm not Ben Affleck. Ronnie Shields: You white, then you Ben Affleck. Wheeler: You *are* white. Danny: That's true, I am white.
  22. For the same reason that Scott Diamond isn't a Brave right now.
  23. Jeremy. A Bubba Sparxxx reference? 10+
  24. Someone call Phil and R.A., and give this kid a rosin bag.
