  1. You lost me at "Colmes had Hannity", but then you brought me back with the Milli Vanilli reference.
  2. These are pretty cool, but I wouldn't be surprised if this individual opens his Christmas card and finds out it is a cease and desist.
  3. This team has hope, but it's a fair assessment to be upset (from a fan's perspective) about some decisions and what the fan base was fed. I think this team has a chance to contend, with a bunch of breaks, but it depends upon a lot of good breaks and statistical breaks (or suprise performances). It can be done, much like proclaiming "So you're saying there's a chance?" Go Glunn/Go Twins!
  4. Thanks Parker. As usual, this is great. Now you should come to GF for a year and watch me play beer league softball. I want to hit moooorree dingers.
  5. I've actually been working on some research that proves Doumit's lack of supreme catching skills are actually caused by his managers. You see, any pitcher who stares directly at Ryan Doumit becomes so terrified, he can't throw strikes (Liriano and Deduno just wouldn't look away). Thus to compensate, Doumit covers his face with his glove, and leaves him at a disadvantage defensively. This may be satire, but for my money, don't stare directly at Ryan Doumit.....
  6. I'm a Seth fan, a fan of this website/forum, and a huge snark fan. I wish we could all have Seth's positive attitude for a day. It's in his nature to ask people to lay off Kevin and hope for the best. I praise him for that (feel free to label me an apologist /maybe I am). But my guess is that if you want to lay it on Kevin, you're not going to stop. Some people don't feel like thier point is made until they've repeated it ad naseum. But to be honest, I dislike the signing, I dislike the FO's attempt to call him an upgrade, and I sincerely hope he proves the vast majority of us all wrong. I'll be the first to openly admit I was wrong in such a case and take my beatings for it. So to settle this, should Kevin throw 180+ innings of 4.50 FIP or below this season, us, the God-fearing citizens of Rock Ridge (who do not project Kevin to perform at this level) are hereby forced to wear a A.J. Pierzynski White Sox jersey, frost tip our hair (if you still have yours) and loudly proclaim "Terry Ryan was right" at all major interestections in Minneapolis. We also hereby waive our right to call it TR/JR lucky. It's only fair. On another note, may the Twins never let Sweet Drew go. I'm his biggest fan.
  7. Hrbeck and the divot get my vote. Everything else he accomplished/did/didn't do were great, but I've never laughed at a baseball game like that in my life. I should have added, that my three-year-old son and I were watching it together, and he still refers to it as "the fat man hole."
  8. This was just flat out entertaining. Thanks Parker.
  9. Initially, I was going to agree that a 1/1M deal sounds reasonable. But Capps > Slama? I'm not so sure (even if the scouts are). I'd probably still give him 1M and then move Burnett's desk to the basement of Hammond Stadium and "forget" to pay him....I said, NO SALT.
  10. Probably not, but his range should be about three feet...stationary.
  11. Trade Escobar for Cuddyer's magic tricks....pick a starter, any starter.
  12. I like your benchmarks. I'll admit I've stared long and hard at his fangraphs page looking for ways to argue that he can do this. However, even a comparison of his page vrs. Marquis isn't making me feel better. Best of luck Kevin, God willing, it's 2009, Hicks is all over the park (after the first two-to-three weeks of the season), Florimon, Dozier, and Carroll have more range than we thought, and Trevor's a vaccum...sign..best of luck to you sir.
  13. Wow, it's getting to a point where I really want to be wrong and have Correia make TR (JR) look like a genius (against all odds for this signing). We can't unwind the clock to get a strikeout pitcher, so at what FIP or ERA+ do we start saying we got what we paid for?
  14. I can understand why people would advocate for bringing the top 25 north, but I'm firmly entrenched with the thought that this is old-world thinking in this case. If Hicks was one of a few pieces needed to contend, it makes perfect sense. The Twins are rebuilding, so let's let them rebuild for the future, and keep Hicks as long as possible. I'm on board with Terry building for the future, and this would be a move for the future [puts blinders on face]. If the Twins are contending in August, and Hicks had a great season, I'll admit I was wrong.
  15. I may have gotten in trouble laughing out loud at work. I think it's about time to start a thread on things I'd rather have in left field than Delmon....and no, I don't care how long its been since he's been gone.
  16. Parker, very informative. Thank you. Since Sweet Drew came up to the bigs, I've wanted this guy to succeed. Likely because "throws like Pudge, but he hits like.......". I can't help but be entertained when he throws the ball around the diamond to hold runners on. I'd like to think his value is locked into defensive prowless, intangibles, and character; but I can't help but think a third catcher is available who can hit (a little) and throw. Frankly, I've made up my mind that his general role is very little, and if an injury happened, we would see someone else for an extended time instead of 2011 Drew AB's (Hermann or otherwise). He's likely a hell of a guy the organization feels won't hurt them as much as he helps. For better or worse, he is what he is, and I'm willing to go with this one.
  17. Brock, Let's be honest with ourselves....at this point, we'd take a Jugs machine on a "Terry Mulholland" setting.
  18. I echo Jim C. and Ashbury J. Frankly, I think the problem in evaluating Joe Saunders now and Joe Saunders at the inception of free agency is the heart of the issue. If you told me Saunders for 3/24 at the beginning of free agency, I probably would have said I would sign him for less and fewer years. However, with the increased paychecks to starting pitchers this year, in combination with the Twins moves to this point, I think signing Saunders takes on a completely different perspective. Saunders, right now, 3/24 is a decent deal to helpt the Twins be "better" to watch in 2013. He is what he is: average. Average helps the Twins. No huge financial drain, and likely to get value +/- some trade value if you need it.
  19. If I could like this a thousand times, I likely would.
  20. I do like Marcum (love that K/9), but I wonder with our outfield whether his BABIP would stay below .300. Also, at this point, I wonder if signing Marcum is enough to interest the average fan (unless the Twins starting winning). That being said. I sign him.
  21. I can agree that it's hard to defend the Twins offseason aquisitions, but some would present a good argument that Jason Frasor is 35, coming off a career-worst season (including a DL trip). His strikeout numbers may have been career highs, but I'm not convinced that this specific decision wasn't based on worth. I like Fien and Roenicke...for what they are paying. Now if you are asking me to defend K.Corr and Pelfrey over Baker....I'm not touching those.
  22. Thielbar, Butera, Escobar, and Wood would each likely clear waivers.......Butera would as well, and don't forget Butera.
  23. Somehow I like a 4/52 contract, but there is no way I would have signed him to a 3/51. I'm still trying to figure out why. I still think TR has decided this team will be rebuilt for 2014-2015, and he's not spending any real money until he sees the internal talent level pre-2014 (K. Corr still didn't happen....if I keep pretending, it's real, right?).
  24. When taken in context with the aquiring team having to eat the salary and provide a high upside prosect. In that case, I believe it is.
