  1. As a fellow dad, I'm wondering if you didn't have a bigger moment.....
  2. There's been a couple of posts about paying him millions? Unless I'm missing something (and I certainly could be), Detroit would be on the hook for his salary, and unless we agreed to more, we could pay him major league minimum or a minor league contract (if he would accept it) and bolster the Wings. If we can pay him minimum, I take him. Otherwise, it's a pass.
  3. After pleasantly perusing the site since its inception, I've noticed a severe souring of the community's collective outlook. I noticed this myself as I watched the latest foray into pitching hell. It's made me wonder; how bad would it have to be for me to stop watching/listening/gamedaying (made up words are fun)? With our diverse group, what say ye? For me, I'm too much of a homer. All the "fire this guy"/"drop that guy" talk is completely opposite of my thoughts (perhaps valid commentary, but not my perpective). I'm watching every game I can, right down to where we call up BJ or Tim for a spot start.....it could happen, or maybe we get this thing turned around. The worse we are, the cheaper the tickets, the better the draft picks, right? and go.....
  4. Drew Butera....if you count him as a prospect. If not, Daniel Ortiz
  5. 1. Is it time to call up Scott Diamond and give him a shot? 2. Sweet Drew: Never will his trade value be greater than now....Never.
  6. Nailed it Storm, Nailed it. Love 'em for thier faults. I heard much about the dislike of John Gordon; personally, his voice/"Touch em all, ______" will forever be a fond memory of games past.
  7. As much as I want a winning team this year, I have to believe this team was built on the "cheap" to have a chance (if all things went right) to contend. If not, they are built to sell for rebuilding. I'm actually okay with that.
  8. I'm a 8. I was very upset (to put it mildly) about the Capps trade, but in 2010, it did what it was supposed to (in 2010). See also: Herrmann, Rams (and insert a good-defense catcher here). I can understand the thought process to "win right now" in 2010. At this point, I don't understand bringing Capps back, but we'll see what happens (his current ERA is perfect; so to follow the recent trend, the pick up is doing great.....not going to mention long fly balls). I didn't like the Diamond for Bullock trade, but Bullock didn't look that great last year, and Diamond is capable of spot starting (which has value). I really wish I had an insiders perspective on how coaching and Target Field affect our current roster. My point in all of this (and I think Seth's as well), is fandom is a spectrum without black and white book ends. Feel free to fall wherever you fall. Let's debate everything; if you want to throw the team, management, and everything else under the bus at this point, it's something to discuss (I'm too much of a homer/small sample means nothing/easy to judge in hindsight guy). But I beg of you, don't let TD go the route of other blogs/media/etc. Personal attacks, name calling, and animosity are better left for those who can't have intelligent discussion with individuals throughout the spectrum (ahem....our politicians). Oh yeah, and Chris Parmalee isn't hitting well, yet.
  9. John, Seriously. Its 8:18 in the morning. I'm at work. I already can't contain the thought of my kids at daycare tomorrow, me watching the game on my day off (even if I will only be pretending I am at the stadium), and now I have to think about those garlic fries and calamari till June when I get to the stadium for the first time this year. Well played sir, well played. #GrandForksistoofarfromTargetField
  10. I certainly respect countering opinions on this issue, but from my perspective, kudos to the Twins organization for this one. I respect someone's right to smoke, but I don't want to smell it, breathe it, or otherwise have to deal with it. Personally, I don't want to have to avoid an area of Target Field to allow smokers (plus its likely very difficult to create an area to specifically house them). I think they have bent to the popular will on this. Nothing worse than enjoying the outdoor air, only to have it poluted by something smelling worse than the Metrodome's bathrooms.
  11. I also was very surprised at this one, especially following his stats in 2011. But ultimately, no matter how much I like his 36 doubles for the year, his defense wasn't good, and that made it a wise decision not to protect him on the 40. After that, its a wide open market for a guy like Solarte, and he may have received a nice check from the Rangers system. Solarte has utility written all over him, and without defense, I'm not sure he could have made an impact before the next wave of talent pushes its way up. Tough call (could prove to be wrong), but I agree with it
  12. In an attempt to quell my residual anger from a certain trade that will not be mentioned..... I'm going with the belief that splitter-happens this Spring. But as to sample size, take a look at the following link compared to the regular season stats. 2009 Spring Training http://espn.go.com/mlb/springStats/_/team/min/year/2009/type/pitch 2009 Regular Season http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/2009.shtml --> Vast assumption is that these are accurate. Some numbers track into the regular season, some don't. Spring Training is a time for the coaches to evaluate new talent, and for the established veterans to work on stuff. No matter how much fun it is to try and rely on the Spring stats (and I fall into this trap myself every year), we just won't know how bad he is, I mean how well he does, until the year starts.
  13. "Shut the door baby, don't say a word".....Priceless.
  14. I've given this quite a bit more thought than I intended when I originally read the piece. I consider myself a gatherer of information. Thus, I read as much of the mainstream stuff as I prefer, and a large chuck of the blogging. To me, the imporant "access" is the connection point between bloggers and the audience. We feel as if we are "one of you", and can readily comment to or against the bloggers thoughts (this, by far, is the principle greatness of this website; the bloggers actively read and comment on others). I most often come to the blogs to share in my love for the sport and "our" team. I want to hear others similarly situated discussing things I find interesting. Access to the players is a great thing the mainstream has, and I will not speak against it, but access to a community of like-minded individuals is where I can hang my hat. In essense, in Twins Daily, I am home, with friends, colleagues, and for the most part, a community of people who don't call the last comment/commenter a .... There thought expressed, now back to why I can't beleive no one else thinks Benson looks way too much like James Van Der Beek.
  15. Thanks for putting these together. They've been great to read and view. Excellent job.
  16. Talking baseball is great. Reading about baseball is great. But showing your glaring knowledge gaps during a statistics conversation, not so great. Anyone know where you could find a good resource for advanced statistics that shows the stat, followed by the league median (knowing that for some stats, the median depends on the particular year or other input factor)? Wouldn't it be great to have a quick reference sheet (maybe this should be the next Twins Daily product)?
  17. Curious to know who Philly has at AAA for first basemen that they could let this guy walk for what I'm assuming isn't a huge payout? Not saying his numbers/age/level jump off the page, but good guy for depth at AAA.
  18. Classic. Can't say I disagree, but wondering if the Twins are looking to see if Hicks can develop now, or come up with a change in switch hitting (or very unlikley, check out his arm)?
  19. Great Pictures and Great Reports! I had a blast at Spring Training this year. What kind of camera are you using? On a unrelated note, I wouldn't put too much reliance in the pained expression. Do a google image search and you will see it in a few random pictures; I'm more concerned with his velocity.
  20. and with this news, the Twins have one less player who resembles cast members from Dawson's Creek......and I'll join Thrylos wish list of a team with only two catchers.
  21. I agree with the arguments, but I (don't throw me off the porch on this) want to see Casilla's hitting and fielding before I demote him to a utility player. Optimism runs eternal, but he's been showing positive signs, and that, along with Carroll's track history (steady) and Dozier's relative inexperience, leads me to a month or two. Keep performing Dozier and he will get his chance, but don't put him on the bench at the majors (Jim H. beat me to the punch, but at least we agree on most points).
  22. I'll worry if two things happen: 1.) He doesn't start the season on the DL (which is a possibility); and 2.) He doesn't pull the ball. I saw him briefly in Fort Myers this year, and the eye test said he's not quite right yet. I'm still in his corner pulling for him to come out of this. I want MORE-Neau!
