  1. Or until the Swedish police arrive? The most likely outcome!
  2. I haven't seen either play, but I hope the decision is based on defense just once. Every other decision has been based on offense, or should I say a perception of offense!
  3. There is a reason Anthony, Goin, and Krivinski are Ryans right hand men. They all are on the same page, those who weren't are gone. I would imagine the outside hiring pool would be limited. You might get a young ambitious guy who wants to build a resume and then move on. While I think Ryan should retire, I just can't see anyone operating successfully with this ownership. Win some games, be a low level contender? Sure. But a top notch competitive organization? Never while the Pohlads own it.
  4. Whether one agreed with the decision or not, Hicks fate was just another fallout from not trading Plouffe. It's amazing the trickle down effect that non trade caused! By trading Plouffe, if possible for a better catching prospect, we would have had a better defensive OF, and a more balanced lineup. Santana tries, but Hicks is still a better CF.
  5. What is this pinch hit and platoon you speak of? Hopefully not another of them new fangled ideas like the catcher wearing a mask!
  6. It reminds me of Hannahs horse! So I was watching The Weather Channel this morning. They said last nights predictions for the TC were a "total system failure". Later in the broadcast they announced Jim Cantores hair dresser has been placed on waivers. He has since been claimed by the Trump campaign. To replace him the team has given Cantore a gift certificate to Great Clips.
  7. So when it rains, they get six innings out of a SP? I wonder if they could get five, using the sprinkler system?
  8. So does Chief postpone his jokes till July also, or move them back until tomorrow? Or like the #5 spot in the rotation that they are, simply skip them?
  9. I have seldom watched NASCAR, but watching the Twins this year reminds me of watching a race. You tell everyone that you are watching it for the sport, and you probably really believe that. The fact it's likely your car will lose is lost on you because in reality, you are watching it for the wrecks, that's where the true excitement is. Same for the Twins. You know your team is going to lose, but the smoldering wreckage of that loss, is irresistable!
  10. If you gave 10 competent managers this roster, you would get 10 different lineups. But not one would have Dozier hitting third!
  11. Someone is kidding me, is this Brian's lineup? We have Mauer leading off, which is ok. But not if the trade off is Dozier in the 3 hole. As for Park? I will leave that to the nattering nabobs of negativism. I wish to refine yesterday's short form analysis of the Twins roster! If Plouffe is hitting fourth, you just cannot have a good team. Now I have to add, if Dozier is your 3 hitter, your lineup has serious flaws!
  12. You promised 9 pence. This was only 5 pence! You shorted us 4 pence. (I did the math, I was afraid that like Chiefs jokes, it was too complex for TD) I was a farm boy, and if your short 4 pence, that's a lot of hogs running loose!
  13. The good news is we probably could do a better job. The bad news is the trading deadline would expire while we argued about what to do!
  14. While some of the Twins young RP with velocity have been slowed by injuries, opportunities to promote have still been bypassed. Most recently Chargois. And while I know and understand all the pros and cons of Meyer, why not Meyer. What the bleep is the difference. We are 13.5 out. Maybe with Meyer we would be 14 out and completely out of the running, but let's take a chance!
  15. And if two way productive catchers are as rare as hens teeth, we could bring up someone like Turner who many say is a ML defense catcher already. We are giving up the AB's anyway! Ps at least half the reason Aaron Hicks was traded was about personality. IMHO He has been a thorn in managements side for three years!
  16. One of the stated but under emphasized components of this collapse is the terrible basics! Base running, cutoff men, throwing to the correct base, et al. Those things can be done correctly while hitting .152 or .352. And the next media talking head who plays the "young players learning how to play the game" card should be publicly flogged at second base during the 7th inning stretch! . These things generally start getting taught at the middle school level. Who knows, maybe someone even mentioned them in the 5 years of MiLB most play.
  17. If your philosophy revolves around everyone having to have a good year to succeed, you will fail. To me there are only two surprises on the team that went north. Park who is a pleasant surprise. And Sano who is not. I will give Sano a partial pass for the RF fiasco, but he loses some of his points for his winter prep. I might also add Arcia, who seems to have worked his ass off since last summer. I am not surprised by Mauer, the third year after a concussion seems the charm. But while I love Mauers overall play, he is not and never has been a "carry the team" 3 stick, as Chief has alluded to. Molitor looks wiped out. I know losing will do that, but he looks completely lost. His pitching changes seem out of a hat, and for whatever reason the players don't make an effort to clean up their act. The mental mistakes have gotten to Bad New Bears level. A good manager cannot make bad players win, but a bad manager can make good players lose. The Twins are loaded with average players. They do not have an elite player at any one position. But the players are ML caliber and should be functional. As should their record. 14-17? That's only six games, but a world away.
  18. Two general thoughts on the Twins pitching situation. If the FO has no issues with higher velocity pitchers, with both higher SO and walk rates than we are used to seeing, it has not shown itself in the last 20 years. In honor of Mother's Day, I quote her. "The proof is in the pudding" . Second, if Alex Meyer does not get an extended look as a SP on the ML level this year an oversight is being made. There is absolutely nothing to lose, and what's the worst that could happen? A three inning stint by a starter?
  19. I am not sure how "tongue in cheek" the comment was about removing Polanco for defensive purposes was?But any joke has to have substance to be funny, and yet another non defensive SS is not funny! Ugh! One thing is clear, the injury capped off a miserable two weeks for Esco.
  20. Things will be better tomorrow according to Dick. He just played the "we own Chris Sale card!"
  21. in an adult men's game I once gave a guy about 4 straight steal signs, and the hitter fouled off all the pitches. On the fifth sign, he yelled at me, "I ain't going, I can't run anymore"
  22. So Tomorrow night, by some miracle the game is within the realm of possibility, and May is T best good for one inning? This is a weird year!
