  1. Barring injuries, Odorizzi, Gibson and Berrios are locks to remain in the rotation. Romero is too unless he falls apart. When Santana comes back, he'll get his spot back. So Lynn would be the odd man out if there are no injuries/demotions for bad play. May hasn't really proven much and I'm curious on what his status is in the locker room after this offseason. I imagine he'll go to AAA after he's healthy to work on starting.
  2. I'm not as convinced as you are that Trevor May belongs in this discussion but the Twins actually have control of him through the 2020 season, so two more years after this one.
  3. If it turns out that Trump paid for women to get abortions, would he finally lose the crazy right?
  4. He doesn't really remind me of anyone we've had but the way hitters have flailed at stuff out of the zone, it's sorta like Liriano, back in his day. What was really nice to watch was how he doesn't (for now) need to throw actual strikes b/c hitters are confused and swinging at balls. With scouting reports we might need to see adjustments but, for now, this is a lot of fun to watch.
  5. Build bigger parks? I think this is sorta cyclical. Right now, hitters are trying to hit home runs but that might change in the future. We might get some hitters to change their two strike approach. Maybe a running team changes how teams are constructed. But I tend to agree, baseball with strike outs and walks is a bit boring.
  6. Oh yeah, me too. I'd love it if he managed to make me eat crow and become a ML pitcher for us. I'm rooting for him.
  7. Obviously, Gonsalves is the story. He certainly seems to have taken the AA assignment as a challenge. Nice to see him pitching so well against AAA competition. I'd imagine he'll be the next one up.
  8. This came up when the Twins drafted him. The assumption was that he could serve his two years of service in the reserves and still pitch full time for the Twins. It was a risk since those rules could be - and were - changed. So the Twins thought they'd have Jax around a lot more when the drafted him. If he could have played with the Twins, he was a solid 3rd round pick. But because he's missed so much time, it's really hurt him. http://www.thegazette.com/subject/sports/professional/cedar-rapids-kernels/griffin-jax-heads-to-air-force-after-fine-pitching-performance-in-cr-kernels-12-4-win-over-lansing-20170722 Sure, there are no sure things in the drafts but it's always better to bet on players who are actually playing baseball, like Lewis. Right now, Jax hasn't played much. When he has, he hasn't actually been all that dominant (I made the comparison to Stewart for a reason - Stewart is getting raked over the coals for his low K-totals in AA, Jax has worse K totals in low A). He's old for a prospect. Sure, there are old players who figured it out but it's not a thing you want to rely on. Lastly, this is a minor league baseball forum. We're talking about players in our system. Occasionally, we get feel-good stories here, especially from Seth. But generally this is about talking about these guys as prospects. There are a lot of really good guys in the minors who won't make it and only occasionally is that mentioned. I don't think you should expect people to not say what they think about Jax the prospect just b/c you might be overly sensitive to it. Saying a guy with his profile isn't really a prospect anymore isn't that controversial.
  9. That's unlikely to be a problem we will have to concern ourselves with. The reality is, Jax is 23 years old (he's one month younger than Kohl Stewart) and hasn't thrown 40 innings since the Twins drafted him. He's made four starts in low A ball. He's really not a prospect anymore but more a feel-good story.
  10. If you remind people why the guy is a disgrace, eventually they'll get it. Despite concerns that this doesn't work, the polls show that it does. Tons of independents have gone away from Trump. I know people who voted for him who won't vote for him now. It's likely that Trump's payments to Stormy Daniels violated federal election laws so it's worth reminding people that our President broke the law to pay off a pornstar. Something like 40 GOP incumbents are retiring rather than seeking re-election because Trump has made the landscape toxic for them. Yes, Levi's right that it's good to point out that Trumps very few successes as President (the tax bill) have harmed the majority of Americans and smart Dems have run against the tax bill and won (Lamb). It's also important to energize the base (seems like the Dems are energzied) and it's also important to get independents to support the Dems this time around. Lots of ways to do that but Trump's behavior is a legitimate target. He's lied so often on so many things that we should remind people that he's a liar. He's racist. He's vile. Again, it doesn't really matter if the Joe Arpaio voters will still vote for him - they don't matter b/c they'll either vote for the GOP or not bother to vote. But independents, RINOS and Reagan Democrats are all in play and there are a lot of ways to get to them.
  11. Sure, in the play I saw, the ball was out of the range of Molina'a range but he used his mask to pull in back to him so he could try and make a play. Not quite the same thing but this has video of Andrus throwing his glove at a ball above his head. Also against the rules. https://www.mlb.com/news/elvis-andrus-throws-glove-at-ball-keys-rally/c-138780530
  12. I don't care if the people who voted for him still support him. Stupid is as stupid does. But he's a disgrace to the office. He's racist. He's made America worse. And he's such an horrible piece of **** that he has to pay women for sex and has to pay them to not talk about it.
  13. Baddoo seems to be drawing a lot of walks even if he isn't hitting as well as I thought he would.
  14. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/05/ichiro-suzuki-retire-mariners-front-office.html Front office position with Seattle. Probably my all-time favorite non-Twin. His first decade in the league was amazing - 10 seasons, 55 WAR, 117 OPS+ and just so much fun to watch. He hung on too long - the last eight years he's managed about 5 WAR and put up a 83 OPS+ but he was something. He didn't officially retire and next year Seattle starts the year in Japan so it's possible that he plays three games next year but unlikely.
  15. https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/5/2/17305074/mlb-rookie-profile-fernando-romero-rhp-minnesota-twins Minorleague ball update on Romero
  16. Yeah, and Gardy didn't sacrifice all that much. From 02-10, the Twins were 21st in baseball in sac hits but 2nd in bunt hits. They bunted but they usually tried to bunt for hits. (those numbers are pretty similar to Molitor's numbers, as well). Anyhow, fun little play.
  17. I was really impressed by Romero yesterday. I was surprised on how low he was on prospect rankings coming into the year. I thought he should be considered in the Berrios tier. I think maybe only Klaw was that high on him. I'm sure he'll have some dud outings for us but hopefully he and Berrios remain fixtures in our rotation for the next several years.
  18. https://www.twinkietown.com/2018/5/3/17314692/fernandos-fastball-fernando-romero-minnesota-twins-pitching-baseball-mlb Nice write up at TwinkieTown.
  19. Yeah, that's pretty rare. I saw something like that half a dozen years ago where (I think it was a Molina) used his mask to tug the ball back to him to try and throw out a base stealer. Until then, I didn't know a catcher couldn't do that.
  20. Well Trump has now admitted to paying the 130k through an attorney. It's like all his previous denials were just lies.
  21. Sadly, Sano to the DL was pretty likely the way they were talking.
  22. Mayo has a mock up https://www.mlb.com/news/projections-for-all-30-first-round-draft-picks/c-274577288
