  1. K-rate isn't the end all, be all. Roy Halladay, Radke, Webb, etc were all good pitchers without overwhelming strike out totals. It sounds like Stewart gets a lot of ground balls and his strike outs have increased this year. That can still be a legit ace type pitcher.
  2. A couple nice picks at 73 & 74 - Miranda and Baddoo. Baddoo is another GA prep OFer. Mayo has said some nice things about the Twins draft. Not a bad first day although it'll be a few years before we know.
  3. I think it's probably more like tiers when ranking guys and they seperate within tiers based on different factors - these 5 guys all fit here so let's weigh them by position scarcity, signing bonus, make up etc.
  4. I think they'll sign around slot but they might save (combined) a couple hundred thousand. I think we'll end up doing what we did last year and get someone like Trey Cabbage a bit later.
  5. For crying out loud .. the Twins spend their draft pool. Perez wasn't a top 3 talent and got busted with PED use so why would you trust him? He's certainly not the guy you risk your draft on. The Twins don't develop "slap hitting corner" outfielders. Jeepers. Who knows if he'll make it but he's one of the better prep bats in the draft, solid grades, good baseball make up. He got drafted around where he was supposed to get drafted.
  6. Ben Rortvedt is their second round pick. It's a nice pick. Solid HS catching prospect.
  7. There's nothing wrong with this pick. It's not a reach and you don't draft for need in the MLB draft. I'm not sure why this is a "Twinsy" pick since they've been all over the place with their picks. Plus, the Twins have actually done a pretty good job of getting HS OFers to the majors.
  8. Well, it looks like it was a good pick. Just not an exciting pick. But his bat is apparently pretty good for a HS kid and he certainly has some baseball background from his dad so maybe he's a fast mover through the system. Best of luck to him.
  9. Well, Kiriloff (sp), Dunn and Hudson are still available so one of them will probably be a Twin.
  10. Well Padres, as expected, took Quantrill. And Garrett is already off the board.
  11. That's part of it but it's also a weaker group. Deep, but weak, if that makes sense.
  12. I could be wrong but I thought there were rumors of him drinking a bit too much in high school.
  13. Some people think Groome is 1-1 talent but not all agree. And part of making it to the majors is factoring in other issues including make up. Teams value those risks and act accordingly. I don't know what the issues Groome has are but others do. Keep in mind that HS pitchers aren't the safest bet in the first place, I'm not sure I'd throw my draft into chaos to take this guy. If we draft him with plans to give him more than slot, we have to know he'll take it, otherwise we wasted those picks. And if he's telling us he won't sign for (example) less than 4.3m, they might want to use the money on more players.
  14. At 15, you're going to have warts. He has (arguably) the best stuff of any college pitcher. mlbpipeline's write up on him concluded with "His stuff, durable frame and performance give him the look of a frontline starter." He has stuff to work on but his upside is pretty darn good and a realistic floor for him would be a darn good closer. That's not bad.
  15. Also, since we're on college pitchers, did Kyle Cody sign the piece of paper that would let the Twins redraft him this year? Is that bridge burned?
  16. I'm a bit wary of taking Sedlock and am pretty firmly in the Hudson camp. Speaking of college pitchers, do you have any idea how the Twins view Alex Hansen? Would they consider him at 56?
  17. Nice write up, Seth. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Cabbage plays this year. The early videos Bob posted showed a bigger guy with a nice swing. It would be really nice if the Twins got a steal with him.
  18. I'm not arguing against him. I imagine that the Twins will call him up soon. I also imagine that they are working with him on control b/c his stuff seems pretty good.
  19. Blankenhorn at second? That's strange. It would be interesting if he could play it since his bat is supposed to profile a lot better than a second baseman's bat.
  20. Yeah, that was great. Hopefully he's back in the majors - to stay - soon.
  21. Another nice write-up. I won't hate this pick - frankly, the Twins might be better at developing HS OFers than pitchers. But he's not my favorite guy on the board. I suppose it depends on who is available.
