  1. It's the right range but it again shows how much the FO and ownership could have helped this team if they had gone after Machado.
  2. So by 2022 Sano and Rosario will be gone as free agents. I'm not sure that would be true but ... C- Someone not in our system 1B - Kepler 2b - Polanco SS - Lewis 3B - Rece Hinds (Twins first round pick in 2019 who will work out perfectly) LF - Kiriloff CF - Buxton RF - Larnich DH - Rooker Realistically, I think the new FO is really building around that Lewis/Kiriloff nucleus and might make more moves to help them than they have the Buxton/Sano group so we could see some big trades in that time or maybe even real FA dollars spent. And the Twins have some high-upside minor league talent in A+ and below that could break out huge for the team this year.
  3. That was a fun game. Bet the Bears wish they hadn't ended our season now.
  4. There are a lot of things I worry about for this team next year but Eddie Rosario is not one of them. He's going to put up something close to .290/.325/.480 115 OPS+. And he's a pretty good reason we shouldn't overly worry about WAR. Rosario had essentially the same season twice in a row but defensive marks gave him plenty of added value last year. That also just happens to be because Buxton wasn't in center.
  5. That's not quite right, though. In 2016 they spent their first round pick on Treadwell. In 2017 they didn't have a #1 pick but their first pick was Cook. And Weatherly was a 7th round pick that's developed. Gideon was a fourth rounder (is that late?). As to key FA signings, our biggest FA signings since Zimmer took over coaching duties have been Cousins 84m, all guaranteed. And last year (2017) the big signings were - Reiff 5/59m (26m GTD) and Remmers 5/30 (10m GTD), both OL. I don't have a list of all FA we've signed over the last five years but I think most of the money for them has gone to the offensive side of the ball.
  6. I guess this is eye of the beholder stuff. Last year, they beat the Saints twice, knocked Rodgers out for the year, held Atlanta to 9 points and made Julio Jones a non-factor, held the Rams to 7 points, and were the #1 defense by pretty much every measure and #1 historically in some measurements. That seems like they were pretty dominant. You want to throw that out b/c they got blown out in Philly, fine. But not everyone will agree with you. They weren't quite as good this year but the defense still kept the team in a lot of games, especially after the offense imploded in the second half of the year. All those three and outs by the offense were huge - opposing teams dominated time of possession. The Vikings lost TOP in 6 of the last 8 games. In any event, the defense isn't the problem and I'm perfectly fine with Zimmer's defensive scheming. If the Vikings had a credible OL, I suspect a lot of these complaints would be smoothed over. That said, they weren't perfect. They need to get more turnovers on defense. Richardson was pretty run down by the end of the year and not all that effective (I'm not convinced the Vikings won't draft a big DT in the first round and address the OL later in this draft). Kendricks and Barr can be beaten in coverage by fast RBs.
  7. Not what you were asked though, was it? This year was disappointing but I'm not sure the main reason (OL) was his fault and, while 2016 sucked, I'm not sure 8-8 was all that surprising considering the other messes the team was dealing with.
  8. He's pretty close, isn't he? They've been #14, 13, 3, 1 and 4 over the last five years in total defense. Again, I'm not nearly as big into football as baseball but the defense has seemed pretty good with the occasional clunker.
  9. Santana is probably going to be a late signing for some team in March after he has a few throwing sessions to convince teams that he's healthy. I could also see him getting a minor league invite with a nice amount of cash if he makes the team out of ST.
  10. If we're going to penalize him for the luckiest playoff win, do we give him credit for the unluckiest playoff loss? I'm not sure if Zimmer is the answer or not but I do think he's a good coach. His problems seem to be more on the offensive side of the ball which a good coordinator and OL could fix.
  11. What numbers should we expect? What is the expected winning percentage against teams over .500 for a team that goes 48-34-1 over five seasons? Can you compare those numbers to other similar coaches?
  12. Did I write any of them? If not, I probably don't care as I am selfish.
  13. This seems like a pretty decent explanation of salary cap, dead space, etc for player contracts. https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/9/6/17600618/nfl-salary-cap-2018-everything-to-know-about-salaries
  14. I really don't think it's that hard to ID the problem. We need to fix the OL but realistically the Vikings were in a lot of games that they lost (or tied) and a competent OL would've changed the season quite a bit. I have no idea how to fix the OL but a quick look at some draft rankings suggest that there are a lot of OG to pick in the second and third rounds but would be reaches in the first round. I wouldn't oppose a stud left tackle but guard seems to be the priority. I agree that the Vikings need a offensive coordinator who can forge a good relationship with Cousins but I'm not sure that's not the guy we already have. I don't want to lose Anthony Barr. He was so good his first two seasons and he isn't playing at that level anymore but he's still really good.
  15. Didn't the NFL end the trading for coaching thing? As to Zimmer, I'm on the fence. I don't want another Childress or Tice, that's for sure.
  16. This. What we need is an offensive coordinator who knows how to use the talent we have instead of the talent we wish we had. DeFlippo wasn't the answer. With these guards, we weren't going to bulldoze anyone but our running plan all year has been pretty predictable. Let Zimmer coach up the defense but find someone who has equal footing to square up the offense. Co-head coaches or something. I don't care. But the skill positions are, on paper, good enough but they need to fix that line.
  17. Anyone wanna get angry again? https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/30/us/arizona-migrant-child-abuse-allegations/index.html
  18. Like I said, I hadn't realized he'd been our GM this long. I thought he came along at about the same time as Zimmer. He does have some pluses as I mentioned but I won't object if we moved on.
  19. I hadn't realized how long Spielman's been our GM - since 2006. Uff-da.
  20. Maybe, maybe not. But that's easily the main problem.
  21. I'm ok with Spielman for now. He's done a nice job managing the cap, I guess, and he's made a few nice draft picks but if he ignores the OL this offseason, I'm done with him. Zimmer can stay but they need someone to fix the offense who will take the timidness out of him on that side of the ball. Bluntly, this team should be playing up-tempo offense and, with this defense, be the first team that decides that punting is optional. The OL makes a lot of that hard to do, of course.
  22. If I'm the Bears, I might regret this victory. Philly has looked pretty good lately and will obviously be a tougher first round opponent in Chicago.
  23. That TD was a killer.
  24. Man, that's the second time we've wasted a challenge flag after we got the first down. Not really impressed with Zimmer here.
  25. I hope they score a touchdown
