    This came up a bit on twinkietown. Basically, Jeffers was an underslot pick. Fangrpahs had him as a 3-5 round talent, mlb didn't have him on their top 200 draft board. He was a college hitter so his stats in low A and rookie don't really mean much. They probably won't change his hit tool grade until he moves up some level(s). I think we'll learn a lot more about him this year but #13 seems pretty nice spot to place him for now.

    Surprised Stewart didn't make their list at all. Nice to see Miranda and Balazovic get recognition. I think Rortvedt is too low but that's a minor quibble.

    It would've been interesting to see a "what if" with Hicks. He struggled a lot in in NY his first year - probably his worst season. That was 2016's total system failure for us. Had he posted a 64 OPS+ with the Twins that year, I'm not sure what they would've done with him. He'd have no trade value and Buxton/Kepler/Rosario were right there, struggling as well.

    It seems like a fair deal to both sides. Owners are trying to tramp down on payroll so Hicks probably couldn't assume a huge windfall when he hit FA. He's getting a ton of money but he is a risk, as others noted. He's had two solid seasons with NY but only played 225 games in those two years. So there is risk to NY as well. Probably a good reminder to not give up on guys like Buxton either.

    Ownership has yet again failed to provide support for the players. Everything else is just window dressing.

    My guess is that teams are going to start putting some resources into developing another Zorbrist or Gonzalez type players. Twins have guys like Blankenhorn playing several positions as they come up. I wonder if part of it is to see if they can find some productive versatile players down the road.

We think a lower payroll this year will really help with expectations."

    I'm on board trading either Rosario or Kepler since Kiriloff is going to be up soon. I don't think the Gonzalez signing really has any impact on that though. Gonzalez should be playing all over the diamond, making 100 or starts while the regulars take a day off. If we move Rosario, I would imagine a combination of Cave, Wade and Gonzalez would get those starts until Kiriloff was up but Gonzalez is probably here as a super utility guy and emergency plug-in in case of a DL trip for a regular player.

    My kids love netflix. I'm torn on it but I'll probably keep it for now. I don't think other streaming services would be better, just different.

    Twins' fans should never forgive this FO for not getting involved in the Machado sweepstakes and letting freaking San Diego get him. Good lord. We could have signed him and still had a lower payroll than last year.

    The other way of looking at is that, after two drafts and two trade deadlines, the new FO has brought in one consensus top 100 guy (Lewis). I don't think that's fair but I'm not sure we should be raving about the trade deadline guys. (I was stunned at how bad Littell looked when he was called up last year. It amazed me that our baseball minds thought he was an option as a starting pitcher.) I think the draft/development group is in good hands and I liked the way the FO has dealt with Steil and Johnson.

    Lewis and Kiriloff really help make the system look better but this seems more like quantity over quality. We only have three consensus top 100 guys (Graterol being the third and even Klaw didn't have him). I know that the team has a ton of upside guys that could rocket up these lists next year (and I expect many will) but right now it seems a bit premature to rave about this group. I'm also a bit doubtful on the best-case ceilings on a number of these guys outside the top three, especially on the pitching side.

    I'm ok with this move. The Perez signing makes no sense to me but moving him to the pen doesn't mean he could never get another chance to start again (Santana and Liriano both were in the pen earlier in their career). Eventually, the Twins will move off of Perez and guys like Mejia and Gonsalves will probably get chances to start before him. It'll also be interesting if they want to set him and, say Gonsalves, up in a opener/starter role. Soft tossing lefty followed by flame throwing righty might make it difficult for other teams to adjust for a bit.

    I think this article is a bit forgiving of the FO and ownership. They had an opportunity to make significant improvements to the team in a way they've never had before and they decided not to do it. Locking up a few 2-3 WAR players isn't getting it done. Ownership hasn't signaled to fans that they are committed to building a competitive team so I'm not sure why fans should commit to this team. I imagine if the team has a lousy April, TF attendance will be quite low this year.

    I think we had a thread on this a while ago but how much to you pay monthly for internet, cable, entertainment packages (Hulu, netflix, amazon, etc)? I'm in rural MN so I have limited options but I pay about $160 for internet, basic cable and netflix but haven't really been able to find a cheaper route.

    Have really enjoyed Shopify, appreciate the tip. Don't really have much money to invest right now and our next big buy will be extremely conservative since we're growing older. Probably an index fund but maybe even some treasury bonds.

    Nice to see some stuff about Larnich there. I'm a bit surprised we aren't reading about more Twins on the lower part of these lists. In our team rankings, it seems there are a ton of guys between 5-17 or so who could be more or less interchangeable on where they are ranked. You'd like to think that one of those guys would catch on nationally but other than Balozovic with Klaw, none have.

    Yeah, team manipulating service time should be addressed in the next CBA. Toronto visits MN in April and he probably won't be on the roster at that time.

    I'm ok with locking him up since I think he can play second or even third in a worst case scenario. And it's a good sign to the other players that the Twins will lock up core guys. But this has been a pretty disappointing off-season.

    obviously, a move that doesn't really matter. Would be nice to see the Twins do something but that doesn't seem to be in the plans.

    Realistically, he'd be paid about the same percentage that the team gave Mauer. He's younger and a safer bet than Mauer (who I always thought was a safe bet). It's insane that no one is pressuring ownership or the FO to sign these guys. They finally have the money and roster flexibility to do so and they'll just sit on it and ask the fans to eat it. Gad, I hate the Pohlads.
