Article: Cardinals "Very Much In" on Brian Dozier
gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Cards drafted Dakota Hudson last year. IIRC, the Twins kicked the tires on him a bit as well. Does anyone know how the Twins scouting department viewed him? While he hasn't pitched much in the minors yet maybe he'd be part of the package with Weaver?- 209 replies

Article: Cardinals "Very Much In" on Brian Dozier
gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not sure the Cards couldn't beat the Dodger's offer. As said, Weaver's a nice looking SP prospect. His ceiling isn't as high as De Leon's but he seems more durable and safer. Flaherty is a nice looking prospect, too. A package around those two isn't as good as a De Leon/Alvarez package but might be better than a De Leon/Stewart type package. I think Levine knows a lot about prospects and won't get ripped off. We don't know how the Twins new FO views De Leon or Weaver.- 209 replies

Article: Cardinals "Very Much In" on Brian Dozier
gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think I might almost like a package of Weaver and Flaherty + more than a De Leon and Calhoun + package. I know De Leon has the higher ceiling but his shoulder and durability scare me. I think both Weaver and Flaherty are a bit underrated and could be Scott Baker/Ervin Santana types. Not ideal top of the rotation guys but a couple good durable pitchers. In any event, it's nice to see other teams in the mix.- 209 replies

As bad as Trump can be, I still think the big massive companies - Wells Fargo, Disney, Exxon, etc - will be protected over the next four years. I'm not sure where to invest in tech because 1) I'm not sure what's what and 2) I'm not sure GOP policies will be good for silicon valley. And, if nothing else, index funds are fairly safe if boring.

gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, the problem is that you are putting a lot of trust in the defensive calculations of WAR. And he's going into one of the bigger NL parks. There is real risk there. I also read on one of the White Sox forums that he has a player opt out but I don't think that's right. Cots just lists it as a team option.- 163 replies

Maybe we wait to move him until Nova signs? I think Nova is only "good" pitcher left in FA, right?- 163 replies

Unreal. Eaton's bat was better than I thought but giving up Giolito? Not sure I'd have done that. His value must be lower inside the industry than in fans eyes.- 163 replies

Yes. Why are you so down on Gordon? You wanted the Twins to draft him. He's a HS kid so it takes longer.- 163 replies

Article: Official Winter Meetings Wednesday Thread
gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't have a problem keeping Santana since he is a solid ML starter with a proven track record and we need at least one. But I am a little surprised that there are no rumors on him. I suspect we might hear things after the FA well dries up. But would you rather have Santana or Rich Hill for the next three years?- 163 replies

Article: Dozier Trade Talk Heating Up?
gunnarthor replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just looking at some of the fan comments to Heyman's tweet, it looks like fans of the Yankees, Dodgers, Angels and Phillies are looking at adding Dozier. Not sure that's a reliable way to guess the interested teams though. -
Article: Dozier Trade Talk Heating Up?
gunnarthor replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Per Heyman, four or five teams have interest in Dozier, who is also going to be at the winter meetings for a marketing requirement. But that means he'll almost certainly be able to meet with future potential bosses which will probably be a good thing. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/four-to-five-teams-interested-in-brian-dozier.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29 -
What, you don't own a bunch of oil and big bank stocks? I hate Trump but our portfolio has looked pretty good since election day.

Article: Dozier Trade Talk Heating Up?
gunnarthor replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins should start by asking for Alvarez, of course, but I don't think the Dodgers can trade Alvarez. He's (arguably) their best prospect but they also made a huge financial commitment to him - nearly 16m + a huge tax penalty. I think he and Urias are their only untouchables. -
Article: Get To Know: RHP Jordan Balazovic
gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really liked last years draft for a variety of reasons but one of those was because they drafted a ton of really young players. A lot of 17 year olds and guys with limited exposure but high ceilings. Obviously, Balazovic falls into that group. We probably won't be able to judge the 2015 draft class for a while yet but it'll be fun to watch a lot of these guys. -
Oh good. I was hoping this thread would devolve into BS "Hunter is racist" and "started a fight" stuff and it's just PR and was not disappointed.

I think if you are equating hiring three former Twins (who last played for the org in 2015, 2011 and 2001) to be equal to hiring Falvey and Levine then we have real problems. Those shouldn't be 1:1 comparisons.

But when are you looking at? Most of the minor league coaches and staff have come in after 2012 and have been producing very good results both in minor league wins but also player development. Most of the current ML staff has came in around 2014. I think Molitor should go but ... Part of this burn it all down mentality doesn't stand up because people don't know what they want to burn down. Klaw, of all people, has nothing but good things to say about both the Twins scouting and development departments, for example. Brad Stiel has done a pretty good job since taking over in 2012. I don't think he should go. I'm on the fence on Johnson but know enough to know I don't know enough.
