    I'm pretty sure age was part of the equation as well. It's not hard to imagine they thought, coming into his age 26 season, he had room to improve.

At this point in the game, you need to come to the table with something better than empty claims about minor league "talent" in defense of the front office. None of that "talent" has delivered a single solitary major league victory.

    Non concur. Relievers with great stuff aren't a crap shoot. Quite the contrary. The crap shoot comes in when you think relievers are a crap shoot, so you spend no resources or make no effort to get good ones.

    I agree Twins ownership has been cheap in recent decades. But that has zero to do with my point.

    There is zero benefit to bringing up players before they are ready. In addition to the obvious possible stunting of development and losing baseball, you dont even save money. Player X’s salary structure is pretty much the same whether their rookie season is at 19 or 24. There are three years of serfdom, followed by three years of arbitration. The only question is, when do you start the clock? And by pushing off their rookie season, you actually stand a chance of getting them cheaply through their prime, rather than paying them to learn, and then watching them hit free agency at 27 or 28. Minor leaguers should always have to force their way into a big league lineup. Always.

    I know I don't want a .750 corner outfielder as the primary option. That's how you end up watching the playoffs. In any case, if we're giving up on Kepler, moving Polanco isn't the answer. Go find a bat. BTW, there were 23 such players in 2017, including 8 OFers. Two more OFers if we take it down to .885. It's not like .900 OPS players are unicorns. Those are the guys we should be looking to find a position for.

    Polanco's bat plays in the middle infield. I have zero interest in moving it to a corner OF slot. If they're going to replace Kepler, find the .900+ OPS bat they need, not a .750 guy learning the position.

    Goldschmidt is likely available too. Package deal? Take on the entire Greinke salary, in return for a lesser price on Goldschmidt. I think AZ is going to have trouble finding a taker for Greinke unless they eat some salary.

    Thinking Molitor wasn't a good manager is completely unrelated to having a better candidate in mind. Finding a better one is Falvey/Levine's job. As was firing Molitor. Personally, I'll reserve my judgement on the new person until he/she has had a half season of performance to judge from.

    I've been saying for years that corner OF defense isn't worth worrying about. However, I don't feel that way about C, SS, 2nd base, and to a certain degree, CF. Catcher handles the ball on almost every pitch. SS and 2nd base HAVE to turn ground balls into outs, virtually every time, and there are a lot of ground balls between the two of them. The SS or 2nd baseman are going to take every relay from the OF. They handle the ball, a lot. So IMO, no...in addition to the errors, Polanco just doesn't turn enough ground balls into outs.

    People were no doubt coming in to catch the Twins-Sox game on the satellite TV. Time difference, eh?

    I don’t think we know the full story yet. I’m not at all convinced the second story is the “truth,” any more than the first reports. I guess it’s possible a person can back over a police officer at 3 AM outside a club, in an unlicensed vehicle, and it be entirely an accident. But I’m skeptical.
