    Caleb Thielbar was out of baseball, signed to be the Augustana pitching coach, when the Twins invited him to spring training.

    Polanco had a pretty bad game. Like I said, lots of blame to go around. But making a physical error is, IMO, much different than the front office looking at their pen a month ago and deciding, "Nope, we're good. Don't need Rosenthal. Don't need anybody." Again...they're pitching Sergio Romo and Caleb Thielbar in the 9th inning. Of a tied playoff game.

    The ninth inning of a 1-1 playoff game went to a 37 year old junkballer and the Augustana University pitching coach. Sounds like the town ball state tournament, not the AL playoffs. So much blame to go around, but the above was preventable, if the front office does it's job.

    Today was a culmnination of the front office's failure. In the 9th inning of a 1-1 playoff game, the Twins threw out a 37 year old junkballer and the Augustana University pitching coach.

    Also, if I have a choice between a .300 hitter with a .350 OBP, or a .225 hitter with a .350 OBP, I take the first guy 100 times out of 100.

    i think 6th is impossible. The 2nd place team from the ALW has that spot locked up.

    Incredibly poor game from our Twins, with the added bonus of missing a chance to put a stranglehold on the division, a couple really worrisome injuries, continued mediocrity from Berrios, and more bullpen follies from the manager.

    Actually, when you wrote this, the correct answer was "the Twins must lose one fewer game than Chicago," since the Sox had one more game on their schedule than the Twins, and the Twins need to finish ahead of the Sox. Winning one more and losing one less were not the same thing. However, the Sox lost again tonight, so now both teams have 3 left, and the Twins are a full game up.

    Clippard escaping from bases loaded, one out with no runs scored turned out to be pretty huge.

    has Baldelli used a starter on short rest in his tenure here? Granted, the ALDS would be a different situation, but I'd have to see it before I'd believe it.

    A weird start tonight for Bailey. In the first inning, he was topping out in the mid 80s on his fastball. High 80s in the 2nd, got up into the low 90s by the 3rd. Not very impressive, in any case. I know he got through the first 3 innings with no baserunners, but lots of good swings, and loud contact. If they get to the second round, is he the 5th starter if Odo can't go?

    I doubt Falvey really believes it doesn't matter, but what is he supposed to say? "We're doomed unless we get home field"?

    Maeda, Pineda, and hope for a tornehdah.

    To me, he seems to be having trouble getting around on fastballs this year. Like he's tieing himself up. And there is no sustained success at any level of baseball, from little league to the big leagues, if you are consistently getting beat by fastballs.

    Can Dobnak catch? Personally I'm OK if I never watch Tortuga catch again for the Twins. I'm glad Avila is back to spell Jeffers.

    did you know Kepler's OBP is 60 some points higher than Buxton's? I dont know if Kepler should be leading off, but not Buxton.
