  1. I've never even implied that. I have absolutely no idea if he has anything left. I think his team desperately needs RH power, and its a worthwhile signing to give him a look. And if he does have something left? Yes I think he would be more valuable for this roster than Grossman is.
  2. Since April 25, these are the Home Runs hit by RH batter for the Twins; Garver - 1 Dozier - 3 Escobar - 1 Wilson - 1 That is all.
  3. In a 1 run loss on Saturday these hitters batted in the 9th against a LH reliever (there weren't better options on the bench) Grossman Garver (who i like) Adrianza Wilson
  4. Have you watched this team the past 6 weeks? You really don't see value in finding ANY right handed hitter that can maybe hit the ball over the fence? DH, pinch hitting? *This is all assuming of course hes not toast, and swings the bat well in AAA for awhile
  5. He hit 41 home runs 2 years ago, he hits right handed, the Twins RH power has been virtually non-existent for 6 weeks, he's in AAA. Why not?
  6. He was 17th of 23 catchers who had 350+ Plate appearances in wRC+. That is not above avg. The link you posted is including any at bat taken by a catcher, where backups obviously play much more often than other positions
  7. I'm not a Castro hater, but what exact stat are you using to call Castro an above avg hitter for a catcher? His wRC+ last year was 93
  8. An MCL is totally different from Meniscus, FYI. MCL is a ligament, Meniscus is cartilage. If he had a meniscus repair which I believe is what was reported, he'll likely be fully healthy by ~October
  9. 2 years ago at the end of May his slash line was; .202/.294/.329. Who were you arguing with?
  10. None of them had TJ surgery at Age 20, I'm not sure how those are valid comps
  11. Innings; 2014: 12 2015: 0 2016: 90.1 2017: 125 It would be foolish to "take the training wheels off". He absolutely should have some limit this year, even if it is around 160
  12. I'm not arguing with any of that, I always preferred May as a starter. But in regards to 2018, May is a complete and total non-factor when it comes to the rotation. He's still not back from TJ and hasn't started a game in almost 3 years.
  13. Let's not forget Eduardo Escobar
  14. Certainly, thats not really debateable. The Yankees being fairly heavy WC game favorites (-245) was about the equivalent of the Vikings who were only 4 point favorites to beat the Saints this January. I think that money line was around -240. While the Pats were -800 to beat the Titans
  15. Bill Barnwell has written a lot on the subject of luck in football, fumble recovering is a big one. Its not a "skill", its more the luck of the bounce. Fumble recovery rate Forcing fumbles is a skill, and giving away fumbles is a legitimate liability. What happens once the ball hits the ground is mostly randomness. No team has exhibited a steady ability to recover a disproportionately high percentage of the fumbles in their games. Not even that team you know who runs fumble recovery drills in practice and makes it a priority. (All teams do that.) http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17998672/raiders-bills-opposite-ends-luck-spectrum-far-2016-nfl-season You said there is no comparison in football or basketball to the luck of a 20 hopper going through the infield. Just pointing out there is plenty of luck involved in football. (one team falling on all 4 loose balls for example, would be far more impactful in a football game than a team getting a few 20 hoppers through the infield) As to the original discussion, yes Wild Card games will likely always have a closer moneyline, than a game against the 1 vs 6 seeds in an NFL divisional game or something. Meaning the baseball underdog has a better chance to win. I only jumped in because I thought the discussion was about how anyone who made the playoffs in baseball had a real chance to win the title, which really isn't that true
  16. Recovering it is Not to mention, the Saints literally won the game because the game came down to a coin flip and the Vikings offense never got a chance to touch the ball in OT because of a coin flip
  17. I wasn't moving the goal posts, I misunderstood your argument. I thought you were saying it was much more likely any baseball team who qualified for playoffs had a better chance of winning a title than any other sport (below). Obviously a -245 Baseball line is more likely to go to the underdog than something like that Pats - Titans line where the Pats were something like -800 KirbyDome89, on 06 May 2018 - 8:28 PM, said: Are we talking about a 7 game series or a 1 game WC here? Both. The WC game is almost complete luck, as one guy can lose or win the game. "I don’t think the MLB postseason is a total crapshoot but it’s heavily dependent on luck, far more than other sports."
  18. I could have been more clear. Yes, Severino pitched like an Ace last year. It was also his 1st time ever doing it, and he had never pitched in the playoffs. I would not have put him in the Kluber, Sale, Verlander, Scherzer, Kershaw,Lester etc. class last year (the Aces other contenders rolled out). As for your 2nd point, I'm not denying luck is involved, especially in 1 game. But lets not act like having Kershaw for example gives you a significantly better chance to win than a team starting Ervin Santana. I think the poster I was replying to was discounting how heavy of favorite the Yankees were.
  19. 2009 NFC Championship, one team had 475 total yards and 31 1st downs, the other had 257yds and 15 1st downs. The 457 dropped the ball a few times and lost... there's luck in every sport.
  20. Last year the Twins were 50 to 1 entering the playoffs to win the World Series. That is worse odds to win the title than the Tennesee Titans had to win the Super Bowl heading into their divisional round game at NE http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/news/2017-world-series-playoffs-updated-odds-predictions-picks-winner/cdk2otl4wdm1dghain3o82ia https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2753565-nfl-playoff-odds-2018-divisional-round-picks-and-super-bowl-predictions
  21. If only it were as simple as saying each team had their best pitcher going and calling it even. 1) The Twins "best pitcher" was significantly worse than most teams in baseballs "best pitcher". 2) The Yankees bullpen was SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Twins bullpen. -245 is not a coin flip. That doesn't mean the Twins can't win, but it is not nearly as simple as calling that a coin flip. That's why the only WC World Series champ in recent years just happened to be able to start Madison Bumgarner which seemed like every other game that postseason run.
  22. The instincts Mauer showed scoring on that play yesterday were unbelievable. If I had to list the biggest negative to Rosario's game besides OBP I would say its instincts. How many times has he thrown to wrong base, missed cut off man, etc.
  23. The Yankees were -245 in the WC game last year. That's not saying the Twins couldn't have won, but that's a significant favorite and they (NYY) didn't even have an Ace. 1 WC team in the 2xWC era has won the World Series, and that team had a pretty damn good ace that the Twins do not have
  24. Rosario can hit, but man this is confusing. Wouldn't a guy with the best baseball instincts on the team not be the player most likely to have "impulsiveness" and a tendency to "attempt high-risk-low-reward plays"? There are numerous strengths that Rosario has, I don't know that baseball instincts is one of them
  25. He was a highly touted prospect? Or was he just a 1st round pick...?
