  1. Colorado got better prospects by taking on Reyes and his salary than they would have had they not done that. The Twins could've taken on the entire Tulo contract and sent back lesser prospects. I'm not sure what is difficult to understand about that.
  2. Probably a fair comparison. They both started in the mid 90s, made playoffs (> half NBA teams make playoffs, Twins won a terrible division a few times) before quickly flaming out in all but 1 year for each franchise. Only problem is McHale has now been gone for almost 8 years...Kahn = Billy Smith? I mean just imagine if after the Kahn tenure Glen Taylor had brought back McHale to be the GM...
  3. How did he build around them? By ignoring the bullpen, littering the rotation with overpriced #4/ 5 starters. Where did extending Phil Hughes with 2 years left on his deal fall in building around Buxton/Sano? I could go on but I think you've got the point. The Twins haven't won a single playoff game in 12 seasons, and are about to lose 90 for the 5th time in 6 years. If you think a GM who has been around for 20 years deserves MORE time, we probably aren't going to agree on much. In what other sport or what other organization would a front office be allowed to continue after showing this level of incompetence over such an extended period of time?
  4. I gotta be honest, you are watching a different team and reading a different message board than me if you think the only difference between every move TR makes and what people want is playing time
  5. I was only commenting on his unsustainable end of 2015 numbers, I may have misunderstood the discussion people were having. Specifically this; "To be fair, I remember reading he had fought a minor injury early in the 2015 season and wasn't healthy until July, when he turned back into a good pitcher (and similar to what he had done in previous seasons)." And was disagreeing with the end of 2015 "healthy" Jepsen was what could be expected as it was career norms...
  6. Not clear what side you are arguing exactly here, but I don't know about "similar to what he had done in previous seasons" Aug 2nd - End of Season 2015: .224 BABIP, 84.8% LOB% 2.25 BB/9, 3.1% HR/FB Career: .311 BABIP, 72.1% LOB%, 3.52 BB/9,. 7.7% HR/FB
  7. How many of those Catchers still catching at 31/32 are 6'5" with knee issues in their 20's?
  8. He played SS/3B his entire career, he had never played OF. That is why people were confused about throwing him into RF. I'm not sure your example of a misplay means a whole lot to be honest. He will misplay some balls, all ML 3rd baseman do. He's been pretty decent over there for now, and I don't think anyone believes it is his long term position, but its where he likely will and should play the majority of the time the next couple of seasons.
  9. Yeah, probably can include August as well. The schedule does not do them any favors either. The only non-division home opponents in August and September are the Astros on a Monday-Thursday, and the Mariners on a weekend in late September.
  10. I was at the game yesterday, and shocked at how few people were in the seats. That place is going to be EMPTY come September. They announced it at 23,000, I would guess more like 18-20k in the seats.
  11. This. I don't see why anyone is advocating throwing in a Polanco with Nolasco. The only reason to do that is you want to save the Pohlad's some money. Nolasco can be DFA'd and you don't need to trade Polanco to do that, the Pohlad's just have to pony up some money
  12. Plouffe is going to be a non-tender this offseason, he won't have trade value then. A salary dump now is probably best for all parties
  13. Trevor Plouffe is not good defensively anymore. He grades out by most metrics as one of the bottom 3 or 5 3rd baseman in baseball. The eye test confirms. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=3b&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=400&type=1&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=24,d
  14. Well the 3 year contract he signed before the 2014 season is set to expire at the end of this season, so at least the Twins aren't on the hook for anything. Oh wait....
  15. In this Hypothetical you have no choice, he has to be one of the 15 protected since he has a no move clause. FWIW, the same goes for the Hockey expansion draft. I believe the Wild have no choice but to protect Parise and Suter, whether they believe the expansion team would take on their contracts or not
  16. Couldn't agree more on Stewart, I can't believe so many people think he would go unprotected. I protect Dozier if I think he still has good trade value... which right now I'm not sure of. But I think he offers more in a trade then say, Eddie Rosario.
  17. I think I agree with all of these in the post above this. I would potentially add Thorpe or Romero depending on their health, instead of Duffey/ Gibson
  18. You realize the reason talk about Arcia differently than Grossman is because he actually has done it, right? Grossman's "standout" skill led to a .327 OBP entering this season. Arcia's standout skill led to 34 home runs before his 24th birthday, and a 100 and 108 OPS+ season. * I'm not trying to bash Grossman, I'd keep playing him for now. For me Grossman > Rosario... but lets not act like this was Arcia vs Grossman here. It was Arcia vs a 29 year old DH who's hitting under .200, Arcia vs DanSan, Arcia vs a Neil Ramirez.
  19. You certainly can disagree. You asked me a question "Why wouldn't the Twins trade Santana?" when replying to a post I wrote that laid out the reasons I wouldn't trade him. Trevor May is not a starter according to the people in charge of this organization. I hope there are new people in charge by this offseason, but for now there is no reason to assume he will be a rotation option. Tommy Milone? The guy who 6 weeks ago cleared waivers? You think the Twins are going to offer him arbitration and slot him into a rotation spot next season? Say he stays in the rotation the rest of this season and pitches ok.. ~$6 million arbitration? NO What makes you think Nolasco or Hughes should be counted on for anything next season, let alone take up 40% of the starting rotation?
  20. You literally replied to a post where I stated why the Twins wouldn't trade Santana right now. Because they hardly have 5 working pulses to put in a rotation next year, and it's likely trading him would just cause TR to sign another mediocre at best veteran to a long term deal
  21. There seems to be a lot of people in this, and other threads that want to trade Ervin Santana. I'm not a big fan of his, and understand he might have some value (at least compared to the Plouffe's, Suzukis, etc.).. but if he is traded, who in the hell is in the 2017 rotation? If Terry Ryan is back (shudders at the thought) Berrios Gibson Duffey - Not exactly someone I want to write in stone, but compared to the other options, sure. Hughes? Maybe I guess, but hopefully not Nolasco? - No May? No. This staff has no interest in him starting Meyer? No Pat Dean, Jason Wheeler? God I hope not Are we wanting to trade Santana's last 2 years so TR can overpay another #5 starter this offseason, with 4 years?
  22. Arcia traded to TB for cash or a PTBN. I hope he hits 20 home runs this year
  23. Trevor Plouffe is a 30 year old with declining 3rd base skills and a .273 OBP. Twins fans are the only ones who think someone like that is worth more than a low-minors prospect. He's a platoon player at this stage, sometimes the roster flexibility (Sano to 3B) is greater than the return. He won't be back next season, so I don't get the point of holding onto him
  24. Sounds like he is going to play 3B, RF, DH... we wouldn't want him focusing on his most comfortable position that he has hardly played or practiced at this year... need to keep him on his toes.
