  1. Thank you for answering that much better than I did. This is exactly what I meant by pointing that out.
  2. I agree. I see no real benefit to trading Santana or Gibson, the other SP name lots of people around here want to deal. Those are two guys who's value to the Twins deservedly so, is quite a bit higher than value to most teams around the leauge.
  3. I pointed out all of the ways they are totally different players. The only thing I could come up with that is somewhat similar is they have played different positions in their careers. If the only basis for calling someone a "poor mans so and so" is the "so and so" is better. Than I guess we can refer to Robbie Grossman as a poor man's Mike Trout. Or Pat Dean as a poor man's Jon Lester... but we wouldn't really get any analysis from that.
  4. Right, seems like pretty much everyone here (even those that were against it this winter) has agreed that Plouffe should be traded. The thing we are ignoring, is Plouffe is still playing 3B every single day, and as far as we know, TR still sees him as the 3rd baseman for the next 5 years *shudders * They have proven to value their mediocre veterans much higher than the rest of the market does. The Mets not trading for Plouffe doesn't surprise me at all, he probably would've asked for Matz or someone. Wasn't it Willingham that baseball execs around the league said TR's asking prices were "laughable"?
  5. Agreed on Morris I would say Plouffe is the slightly better player at this point, so I think if you make that $4.8 something like $2 or $2.5 you could've made a deal. Who knows, my guess is its far more likely TR never picked up the phone. I also think a prospect like this is probably best case scenario for Plouffe
  6. Mets trade for Kelly Johnson and give up what appears to be a decent relief prospect (Akeel Morris, I know nothing about him but a career MILB 12k/9). I bet if the Twins would have called and offered to cover a couple million of Plouffe's salary they could have gotten the same return. Nice "work" TR!
  7. I'm optimistic that this team does not have something like a 55-50 run in them to finish the season with respectability and save his job. I think the owners will be facing a near fan revolt after they finish with ~58 wins and will have no choice
  8. In theory, it might not be the worst end result, but there's a good chance Terry Ryan won't even be making the 2017 picks, he's not going to punt on 2016 with a 17-40 record and most of the town calling for his job.
  9. He played in college, and is a reliever who is 25.5 years old. He is the exact type of player who can and should move quickly through the ranks. Who says you can't promote a guy who hasn't demonstrated sustained success at his current level? Were the Royals not aware of that rule when they used Brandon Finnegan down the stretch and in the post season the same year they drafted him? Relief Pitchers are far different than any hitters the Twins have promoted too fast, which was the other posters point that you didn't touch on
  10. Buddy Bosher and Brandon Kintzler are in the Major League bullpen on the 25 man roster and we're worried about finding someone to "hastily DFA" or the effects of "reorganizing my pen" (A pen that has a 4.48ERA ). Oh ya and for reorganizing the 25 man, the team is 16-40
  11. It wasn't meant to cause bickering, and I'm not sure how it distorted the overall point. You want on to explain reasons for and against extending, but I got the overall point from the first line "This is what the FO needs to be doing (evaluating pros/ cons)". I was pointing out the one thing I think we can all agree the FO has been doing for the past few years, is extending players still under contract. So I'm sure they have done plenty of evaluations on it, and I hope to God they trade him or let him play out his contract
  12. This is actually the exact thing the FO has been doing which has created the mess the team is currently in.
  13. He's going to strike out more than his previous career high in 2013 because he is going to get to the plate more often. His 2013 K rate was 15.2%, It's 15.4% this year. Right around the career average of 13.5%
  14. In what way? Other than they both have BABIP's quite a bit higher than their career averages this season I don't see any similarities. Zobrist walks (12.3% career, 16.7% this year), Nunez doesn't (5.1% career, 3.1% this year). Career OBP Zobrist .358. Nunez .316. Career Slg% Zobrist .434 Nunez .406. ISO. Zobrist .166, Nunez .130. Zobrist, switch hitter. Nunez, RHH. They both have played more than 1 position?
  15. Packaging under-performing vets with Bad pitchers making way too much money does not increase trade value. It makes those under-performing vets untradeable.
  16. Valencia has slugged over .500 every year since leaving the Twins, with the exception of his age 29 season split between franchises. He played with the Twins in 2012, and 2014 was the exception he made.
  17. That misses the previous posters point. Nathan didn't pitch with Guardado, Balfour or Hawkins. In '02 + '03 Hawkins, Balfour, Rincon and Guardado were together. Rincon wasn't good yet, Balfour was never good as a Twin (not sure why he's included in here). Hawkins and Guardado were good those years. Hardly a dominant bullpen that could even be mentioned in the same breath as what the Royals are doing
  18. I'm sorry if I'm not going to pat the Twins on the back for the Royals success. Bad teams trade veterans, that was nothing new when the Twins did it 20 years ago. I would like the Twins to follow the Royals plan in looking for new ways to win (Defense, contact, bullpen) and get out in front of a trend for once.
  19. Well the Twins don't really trade vets, at least not at the right time. And I think every team in MLB drafts.. the bad ones draft at the top. This isn't a "Twins model", its just how baseball works.
  20. We agree there, and I think most people do. Which would be why practically everyone is saying no internal candidate deserves even a shot at the top spot.
  21. The team is 15-35 this year, and 363-497 since the start of 2011. They haven't won a single playoff game since 2004. If they had an internal person perfect for the President of Baseball Ops/ GM role, my question to you would be... what the hell have they been doing exactly? I mean honestly, what qualifications do they have other than "2nd, 3rd, or 4th in charge of one of the worst run franchises in the league" What makes any single person who is part of this dumpster fire a worthwhile candidate, other than they may be personally a good guy? Who do you blame for the epic dumpster fire that this franchise has turned into?
  22. He also said Jack Goin would be a solid GM candidate... There could be 100 Major League Baseball teams, Goin and Antony wouldn't have a prayer at landing a GM job anywhere but MN. Those aren't real candidates in any sense of the word.
  23. So the MiLB numbers are SSS, but the MLB numbers (spread over 3 stints) he's had thus far aren't? FWIW, Danny Santana has nearly an identical OPS as Buxton since the beginning of 2015.
  24. I would've probably kept him in Rochester for another 2-3 weeks, but I'm not going to lose sleep over the fact they did it now. The positive about this timing, is Danny Santana isn't available to Molitor to mess with Buxton's playing time. He should be starting every single day, not getting jerked around like he was the 1st 3 weeks in April
