  1. Miguel Sano isn't stuck? Jorge Polanco hasn't earned a look? Jose Berrios hasn't been largely dominant in almost 20 AAA starts? Alex Meyer doesn't deserve a shot at some point? Buxton and Kepler don't need a few months of steady playing time so you know what you have for 2017?
  2. I would trade Plouffe and Dozier, but I don't expect much of a return for either. See if you can get a ML ready bullpen piece, or else some higher ceiling, lower probability prospect. I think Plouffe would be an ideal Platoon partner at DH with Arica if Park gets traded, but his salary next year is too high for that. I would definitely trade Nunez, wouldn't expect anything great for him but should get something. If I can get good value for Park I trade him. I really hope Jepsen remembers how to get ML hitters out and hope he has any sort of trade deadline value. I would definitely trade Danny Santana but doubt he holds much value (Rosario is my 2017 4th outfielder) I would not trade Gibson, and would lean not trading Santana. I would rather them in the 2017 rotation than Hughes (bullpen), and most of the pitching prospects outside of Berrios likely won't be a ML factor until 2018. So you've got Berrios, Duffey, Gibson, Santana and May/Meyer.
  3. Half the posters on this site want to write off Byron Buxton, a phenomenal defensive Cf and top prospect in all of baseball, based on a terrible 125 age 21 and 50 age 22 at bats in the majors. Yet it seems like 3/4 of the same posters can't wait for ABW, who's K rate in AA/AAA is almost double Buxton's, doesn't have a position, and will be 25 when season ends.
  4. He was a smart, analytical guy that did not fit the Gardy "bulldog" mentality... Coaches, announcers (Bert especially) took every opportunity to rip him, even when he was still in the organization.. That's just what I remember but someone could correct me
  5. Huh? You missed the point by a wide margain
  6. They brought in a new, highly respected GM last September, after canning the previous under-performing one in late August.. Hmmmmmm
  7. Again I ask, what is considered poor performance if losing 90+ games 5 times in 6 years does not qualify? 24 of 30* MLB teams have made the playoffs since 2011. The Twins haven't, and are on pace to lose 120 games this season . It is amazing that this standard of how long it takes to build a team only applies to Terry Ryan for some *of the 6 that haven't made the playoffs, 2 lead their division (CWS, Seattle), 1 is over .500 (Miami), 1 is 3 games under .500 (Colorado). And then there is; The Padres at 19-29 The Twins at 12-34 Excellent company
  8. Do you think knowing the internal workings is needed, or do you think we could use standings to evaluate? One of 5 teams that haven't won a playoff game in 11 years, and the 29th best record in baseball over the past 5. If we aren't allowed to use that to assess, what can we use? What would you consider poor performance if this doesn't qualify?
  9. Fair points, but largely ignored the fact that he was under contract for 2 full seasons. Pitching being a little thin really shouldn't play into it at all, he contractually could not have gone anywhere until 2017 at the earliest.
  10. Because these guys are in A ball and a long ways from the Majors. Putting Gonsalves behind Stewart and Jay, two top 100 prospects in all of baseball, is no knock on him for what its worth
  11. Definitely Stewart and Jay. You're scouting the stat line
  12. I guess I can only speak for myself. I hated it the moment it was signed, and I also hated extending Perkins with 3 years left on his deal. The Perkins one was "safer", but both were so totally unnecessary *Fairness in conversation, I kinda liked the Nolasco signing
  13. I've been watching more than I should... I think it's partly the whole train wreck / can't look away factor. But at some point for my health I need to stop, and that point might be when Buxton is called back up and Danny Santana continues to play
  14. If Danny Santana is in the late June OF in a corner spot I quit. I'm done watching.
  15. This is basically all factually incorrect and awful revisionist history. Who loved the Hughes extension? Why didn't Perkins get a no trade clause if that was part of the agreement? Pelfrey wanted to be here? Maybe because they gave him $12 million and elsewhere he would've had a tough time finding a minor league deal.
  16. At the 2013 trade deadline they were 1.5 years into that "extension", would that have been an ok time to trade? They were on the way to 96 losses, and would follow that up by losing 92 the following year. I really don't think this was a case of hindsight at all, plenty of people were calling for him to be traded. I also don't think bringing up Capps justifies it at all... "Don't do this smart thing, because you might follow it up with something really dumb"
  17. They lost 96 games in the 2 years (2012, 2013) following his 1st extension, before his 2nd. They signed him to a second extension in March of 2014 with 3 years remaining on the original extension. 96 loss teams don't need good closers,. They could have traded him many times without worrying about offending him and his "hometown discount" (or they could have just never signed him to that 2nd one.. the original would be in its final year now)
  18. I don't think anyone here believes the new GM will be calling them for advice on potential moves. I think we all understand that new GM will run things their own way. That doesn't mean we can't discuss what types of traits we'd like to see in the new GM.
  19. They signed Perkins to a 3 year $10.3 million deal after his 1st good season in the majors. The fact that he continued to be a good pitcher made this contract look like a bargain, but I would hardly classify that as a hometown discount... and I don't think the Twins owed him anything
  20. To piggyback on the other thread about when is the right time to replace the GM... going this route also allows you to start that search for the Team President immediately... Ryan can still handle the draft, trade deadline, etc. with a new president looking over his shoulder. That president can clean house in October.
  21. I agree with all of these. One trend that the Braves appear to be all in on is basically buying assets by taking on salary. Just grabbed the Orioles comp pick to take on Matusz's salary, last year I think they got a 1st round pitcher from the Dbacks for taking on Arroyo's contract. Be creative in acquiring assets, through the draft (3 2nd round picks this year will certainly help the bonus pool), international market, etc. *And call Dave Stewart once a week to check in and see if he wants to make a deal
  22. If Grossman can play any lick of CF I would welcome him into the lineup until they decide to call Buxton back up
  23. I was just typing up... can I choose none of the above? Polanco 1, Mauer 2
  24. Bingo. "Vets" are allowed to struggle, young guys have the threat of demotion hagning over their head during each at bat/ start. Buxton never got more than 4 starts in a row, Meyer got 4 innings, Berrios 4 starts, Kepler's 1 start in 10 days was vs a lefty. It's just an absurd way to handle the future cornerstones
  25. The Braves are rebuilding, that's smart. The Twins are...... Who freaking knows
