  1. Sorry, mixing up deadlines. Replace 2012 with 2013. The rest of the post remains unchanged, still multiple years of team control
  2. Realistically how much were Doumit, Perkins, Willingham going to help the Twins make the playoffs in the future I think is also a worthwhile question. Not much at all? then trade them for the best possible offer. And you don't think a 30 year old all star closer with multiple years of team control had value? I would argue he had more value than anyone but Zach Greinke of those who were dealt at the 2012 deadline
  3. Right - so they should've tried winning again as soon as possible (by rebuilding, rather than doing nothing). We're now in the 5th season of TR 2.0, and they are on pace to lose 112 games.
  4. So just throw up your hands and say "Oh well!" then? That has not exactly worked. Willingham, Perkins and Doumit absolutely could've been traded.
  5. I'm still not understanding your argument. Ryan couldn't rebuild because he didn't have the budget or front line starting pitchers? You rebuild by trading off mediocre veterans, not doubling down and signing more. He chose not to rebuild - he chose to attempt to stay semi competitive. The results speak for themselves
  6. What do you mean by "there was no farm system to rebuild from 4 years ago"? Rebuilding means, rebuilding the farm system. Terry Ryan may have taken half measures, but I don't think anyone had a gun to his head. Wouldn't there be more people in the seats now if he had rebuilt this team, rather than lose 100+ games this season? Also, Arcia, Rosario, Sano, Kepler, Gibson (and the list goes on) were all in the system.
  7. He has over $3.5 million of remaining salary. I never said anything about next years status
  8. Right. He is plan B in Center. He shouldn't be is the argument
  9. I'll pat myself on the back, not because Sano has stunk in RF which most predicted, but because I said I preferred a Sano 3B / Kepler RF lineup to a Plouffe 3B / Sano RF one. I thought before the season started this was a better team with Plouffe not in the lineup most days. I don't think Plouffe has any trade value unless the Twins pick up most of the remaining money on his contract, but hope they can find someone to take him in the next couple of weeks.
  10. I guess overall I agree with your philosophy of playing a younger guy to see what you've got. But in regards to Santana, I've seen plenty. He's not a Major League caliber player in any facet of the game.
  11. 2 years. His wRC+ since the start of 2015 is 48. And he's a bad defender
  12. Danny Santana has been the worst player in baseball since the start of 2015 by WAR, and is hitting .226/.254/.305 in that time frame.
  13. Tight race this year, with Rosario sitting at -0.8 bWAR, but down in AAA unable to add to that total. I have faith with Molitor hitting DanSan (-0.6) 2nd many nights he'll catch him in no time.
  14. I'm not disagreeing with that. But what should happen and what does happen have rarely lined up this year.
  15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's started all but 4 games this season (when he hasn't been on the DL. The 1st 2 games of the year, May 8th vs CHW, and Friday vs the NYY. He was worth -2.2 WAR last season
  16. Sano is not back. Sano has not DH'd this year. The GM has said he will play 3rd. And you did not HAVE to release Arcia. I think that's the point you are missing. Freaking Buddy Boshers was kept instead of Arcia
  17. Really? We are valuing Danny Santana because he can pinch run (how often has he done this the last 2 years??) and "put down a bunt"? I'm guessing Ricky Nolasco (since he played in the NL for so long) could come in and put down a bunt in the bottom of the 10th as well. This truly is rock bottom.
  18. Not trying to just pick on you, but it seems we get a ton of this in regards to Danny Santana. You didn't describe one skill in this analysis of him, other than decent speed (which can be found anywhere). Him being a switch hitter and "playing up the middle" are irrelevant, since he is an awful defender, and can't hit from whatever side of the plate he is standing on.
  19. His one dimension is one more than Danny Santana has.
  20. Yup. And Arcia could've been a perfect platoon partner with Park at DH... Rosario + Arcia are not in any way mutually exclusive.
  21. And for his career, its 89. Btw, I'm not sure why this morphed into a Rosario conversation, but I think he'll be a fine 4th outfielder. Arcia should not have been DFA'd, regardless of Rosario's eventual spot
  22. Umm, you brought up Rosario, not me. Preposterous... just like those people who brought up Danny Santana's numbers were bloated by BABIP, right? How did that one work out? I don't care much about his Rochester numbers, though its good to see he is up to 8 walks in 226 at bats in 2016
  23. A career OPS+ of 101 for someone who just turned 25 qualifies as "utter garbage".... for a 21-48 team! Unbelievable
  24. I never mentioned Arcia. I asked when Rosario has hit since 2013? Or at a level higher than A ball. He had an unsustainable amount of triples in 2015, and when those vanish, so does any potential value he has. If he can get on base even 30% of the time it will be a first since A ball
  25. So he couldn't hit at SS, because he was terrible there. He's equally terrible as a CFer, and equally cannot hit, but this time because he's too tired? Got it. So why is he in the Major Leagues?
