  1. I'm curious how he changed your mind? Did you think he was incapable of making a trade? Running this organization takes a hell of a lot more than flipping Abad for a wild fireball reliever. I thought all 3 trades were ok to good, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Antony will not be in charge by October, but potentially he can be an asset for 2017 while the new Pres/GM gets acclimated. If Alex Meyer turns out to be a shutdown reliever, which is absolutely possible, I'll wonder how "creative" that trade was.
  2. Did you see I specifically only commented on his defense and leading a young pitching staff? Read again They would trade for him because currently he's an offensive upgrade for some teams. Also, I wouldn't have expected a big return
  3. Anything is better than nothing, and I believe I only said he was a terrible defensive catcher, in reply to a post that was specifically saying he should be kept around for his defense
  4. Because he has been a terrible defensive catcher and the Twins have the worst ERA in baseball with him as their catcher? That leadership would be sorely missed?
  5. I'll give him a C+. Really nothing to the Abad or Nunez deals, they flipped them for decent returns (I would've done both but I'm not going to give much credit). Not trading Suzuki or Kintzler is a big swing and a miss for me.
  6. I don't buy the "catcher trade market waiting on Lucroy" at all. Who gives a bleep what the market for Suzuki is, he's meaningless for the next 2 months, send him to Cleveland for their 12th best prospect and call it a day.
  7. You don't have to trade him. But there's really no reason not to trade him.
  8. Fernando Abad. Already 30 and couldn't even get a Major League deal last offseason. Meh.
  9. Pat Light. Reliever that should be up soon Per MLB... Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Slider: 40 | Splitter: 55 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45 Light set a Monmouth record with 102 strikeouts in 2012 and became the highest-drafted player in school history that June, going 37th overall that June. He had little success early in his pro career, missing most of his first full season with a torn hamstring and getting shellacked as a starter in Class A Advanced in 2014. But added velocity, the return of his best secondary pitch and a move to relief got him on track last year, when he rose to Triple-A. His fastball began reaching triple digits at the end of 2014 and did so more often last season, when Light usually dealt at 94-98 mph with very heavy life. His heater is extremely difficult to lift, generating plenty of swings and misses and groundouts. He took off when the Red Sox let him resume throwing his nasty splitter, a mid-80s offering that tumbles at the plate. Light struggled as a starter because his slider and since-scrapped changeup were unreliable, as was his command. He has trouble at times repeating his mechanics and struggled to do so after he got to Triple-A last June. He made his big league debut this April but will need to improve his control and command to serve as a high-leverage reliever.
  10. Suzuki will be a FA in 2 months and the Twins are in last place. A bucket of balls would be an offer worth taking (but of course they can do better than that). Kintzler is a dime a dozen relief pitcher that might never have even minimal value again after this deadline
  11. Abreu seems like the perfect lottery ticket type they should be targeting for Abad.
  12. Astros are said to be looking for Catching + Left Handed relievers. Suzuki + Abad to Houston for Albert Abreu + Derek Fisher? I would do that in a heartbeat, would HOU?
  13. The Yankees had Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller. The Twins do not
  14. Suzuki, Abad, Kintzler. There is no reason any of these 3 should be on the roster by tonight. Unless someone gives you an offer you can't refuse, I'm totally fine with the new GM making the Santana and Dozier trades this offseason
  15. Lavelle was on with Barriero this afternoon and said he expected a Kintzler and/or Abad trade as soon as tonight
  16. Your analysis is based on "All Star, Batting Avg., and RBI"? FYI, his OBP since June 1 is .295
  17. Not every hire ever made in professional sports has worked out? I never would've guessed
  18. No he couldn't, he has a no trade clause. Enough already
  19. I would trade Dozier, but I'm not sure this puts me in the rebuild category. I wouldn't expect to compete in 2017, but I would aim for 2018 and I think Polanco will be better than Dozier at that point.
  20. It's not going to be up to the search firm to clean house, it will be up to whoever is hired to lead the Baseball Operation.
  21. I think most people on this site are aware of the myth of the closer. You picked a very odd example to try and prove a point, one that doesn't actually work.
  22. Out of all those names you listed, I would put 2 of them in the category of "locks to be long term MLB Starters (btoh good ones)". Sano and Kepler. Edit: Not to say I disagree with flipping Palka.. just pointing out that logjam is no sure thing
  23. What do you consider MN's position... the pre-season "this team's goal is to win the division", when the trade was actually made by the GM who said this.... or the July 25th reality.
  24. Well, they only won 3 of the 1st 18 games he appeared in... so probably not much worse
  25. I was not a Terry Ryan guy in the least, but have no problem admitting he did make the occasional move that worked out better than expected. However, these are some odd examples. If he believed in Abad so much, why didn't he get a Major League contract, he wasn't concerned another team would swoop in with one? Boshers is a dime a dozen and has pitched a whopping 16 innings. I'm also not ready to anoint Kintzler as some bullpen savior.
