    Great show tonight! I agree 100% about Justin Morneau! He is the best thing that has happened to the TV broadcast. He is intelligent, interesting, and gives the perspective of the modern ballplayer. His insight of what is happening at the very instant of a pitch-what the batter or pitcher might be thinking-definitely sets him apart from other color guys. Plus I love his enthusiasm! His voice might not be as good as Vin Skully, but he makes up for it with his knowledge and love for the game!

    I remember Buxton’s major league debut. It was at home vs. Detroit. Batting lead-off for the Twins and facing Verlander, everyone was excited to see their “savior,” as he was finally in the majors. It didn’t go very well! Buxton struck out in his first 3 plate appearances, and looked helpless against the Detroit ace. Don’t believe he had ever seen a major league slider before! Don’t know if he is getting rested tonight, but it seems like it might be a good idea to avoid a repeat of history.

    It’s easy to see why Morneau won a MVP and a batting title! Cerebral approach to hitting is something that doesn’t get discussed enough. Hoped he talked to young Twin hitters in SP!

    I agree! I’d do that trade in a heart beat, but only if there was an extension. Kidilloff might be elite, but Realmuto is “elite-er!”

    And ESPN suggested a trade of Buxton to Colorado for Jon Gray to restart both players!

    Wish we could re-do the trade and keep Curtiss. Chances are good that the Twins regret this move.

    When I used to play fantasy baseball, I never sent “big” money on stud relievers in the saves category for one reason: there is ALWAYS someone who comes out of nowhere to be the new staff savior. My point: we have plenty of guys in the system who could be that new ace reliever. Give everyone a chance in SP, and may the best player (or players) win! And it will probably be necessary to keep the Rochester shuttle busy when we weed out the “dead wood.” Last point: I agree with Seth that Curtiss could be very interesting. Molly had an extremely short lease with him, and he never really had a chance to show his potential.

    Does anyone think this trade ever had ANY chance of happening? Minnesota fans are so naive thinking this even had a 1% chance of happening. I’ll say it one more time: superstars would rather retire than come to Minnesota to play! Every year about this time someone starts crazy rumors like this, and the fan base goes completely nuts with excitement! Not ever going to happen, boys,!

    Relax-the Twins are not going to get any “significant” free agent. And not because of money. The Twin City area is just not a destination for any of those players (IMHO).

    This Viking”D” is not dominant! The last 4.5 games has shown a disturbing pattern of ineptitude. They really haven’t stopped anyone from the second half of the Saints game, the Eagles fiasco, even the 49ers and the Packers with a one-legged QB moved the ball easily, and today was a total beat down. The only way we have gotten to the QB is by blitzing. Cousins did have two fumbles, but they were caused by the ineptitude of the O line, IMO. This might be a long season, Viking fans!

    The Twins are not, repeat NOT, going to attract any major free agents. Sure, they might get guys like Lynn, Rodney, and Reed- basically players their original team did not want to keep- but when was the last time a real stud came to Minnesota? Butler, with the Wolves, is a great example. Major stars want the limelight of NewYork, Chicago, or LA., or a warm weather established franchise. Our team will always be comprised of a few of our homegrown guys, and castoffs from other teams. I loved your article, Nick, but the only way good players come to Minnesota will be via the trade route, with prospects nobody wants to trade being dealt the other way!

    I disagree about Polanco. I think he can be a consistent .280 type of hitter and ideal number 3 man in the order. As far as his defense goes, he’s been ok until the last 10 days when he checked out like the rest of the team, except for maybe Cave and the injured Rosario. Whoops- forgot to include Molitor who never really checked “in.” The Twins will be in a world of hurt if they bring Molitor and the other coaches back.

    I would tune in just to listen to Morneau! His knowledge and respect for the game is second to none, IMHO. He is very close to today’s players, having just retired in the last couple of years. Plus, he isn’t afraid to criticize a player if he thinks someone isn’t playing hard. More Justin, please!

    I was embarassed to call this “my team” today. Their starting lineup was an insult to the game of baseball. We had 4 “regulars” starting today in a game that, granted, had no meaning except to the ardent followers of the Twins. Two of today’s starters were a backup catcher- hitting around .150 IN THE MINORS- that had to play first base because no one else could apparently, and some guy named Field who is 1 for 20 this year!!! This organization is in crisis mode right now. Two teams lower in the division race- Chicago and Detroit- have arguably made significantly more improvement this year. Our 2 faces of the franchise-Buxton and Sano-have disappeared and regressed. Our 3rd All-Star, Jose Berrios, has been horrible since August 1. And more importantly, management refuses to bring up younger players to possibly gain experience in September. For an organization that has had a “total system failure” and endured “ bilateral leg weakness”- it can’t get any worse. And now comes Houston. Gulp!!!

    Not going to bother watching this game, but was just stopping to make a comment about this putrid lineup. If it was a spring game, they’d get fined for not bringing enough starters. I think it’s possible that this organization might be in big trouble. Pitching is a mess: Berrios concerns me. Gonsalves has been a huge disappointment. IMO, pitching has regressed under this pitching coach. And now this lineup today- I’d almost say Molitor had huge money on the Rangers. I’m outta here.

    Seth- I haven’t paid attention to the entirety of the minor leagues, but it seems to me that Kirilloff should be given some consideration for Minor League Player of the Year- no?

    All 3 have been significantly better than I would have hoped for! Austin has been a pleasant surprise, but I can’t believe a major league hitter can miss a pitch so completely, and then manage to make contact on the following pitch! Kudos to the FO for these pickups!

    I watched tonite’s game with the sound off, so don’t know if the announcers made any comments, but I was deeply dismayed the way the players went about their business tonight. Everyone was swinging for an 8 run homerun, especially Rosario and Sano. Disappointing! In addition, it looked like a little-league game at times the way the ball was thrown around.

    Can’t stand to watch Odorizzi pitch! Do you mean he’s the best the Twins have? 3balls to every batter. Position players are falling asleep. Everything up. He’d be a good waste pitcher- bring him in when they are behind by a ton. Amazing a major league pitcher cannot throw strikes!
