  1. Meyer is a good example of fans "getting what they wanted," and then immediately disappointing. Maybe there was a reason why he wasn't brought up last year and earlier this year. Granted, tonight was all about nerves, first game in big leagues, etc. But the point was made in the telecast, if he can't change speeds, he's going to get killed at this level, no matter how fast his FB is! Several posters have marveled that he is an amazing talent, and they probably know more about him than I do. But stud athletes, even in their early 20's, usually force their way onto a big league roster. Meyer hasn't, and just maybe, there is a reason for that.
  2. How about Michael? I thought he was only going to be out 7-10 days with his ankle...... Is 'injury prone' going to be his final postscript?
  3. Seth- I seem to remember I read that Stewart wasn't either allowed to, or wasn't throwing his slider last year. Anything to that?
  4. You're the man, Jeremy! Time to quit that teaching gig!
  5. Dozier Hunter Rosario Plouffe Vargas Suzuki Maurer Hicks Santana Rosario has proven, for far, to be a great hitter with runners on. Give him a chance at 3- he offers more than Joe does right now. Problem with this lineup, Vargas needs to be up for it to work!
  6. Thanks for the advise on the article, Seth. Amazing. Need to root for Jose! Also, a huge thank you for these reports by you and the other TD writers! I am a late night person, so I usually wait up until after they come out. I am constantly amazed by the quality writing and the dedication you show every day to the Twins and their fans. Some of us probably take it for granted, but it's hard to imagine anyone could do a better job of expressing his skills than you do! It is much appreciated!
  7. Seth- if Jay was the pick for the Twins, any chance they would use him like the Royals did with Finnegan last year (this year only). Where would you start him? Chattanooga?
  8. Seth- our Arcia (Oswaldo) was pinch-hit for in the 6th. Do you know if that was just a managerial decision, or was something else going on? Maybe an injury or an attitude adjustment?
  9. The pitch to Ramirez was f-ing nasty! There isn't a hitter on God's a Green Earth that could have made contact to that pitch!
  10. Seth- you had mentioned in a previous post than Gonsalves would not be the next pitcher brought up to FM because of seniority. Can you please expand on that issue? Thanks!
  11. "Oswaldo Arcia needs something." Best comment, best analysis, best observation EVER!!! Love him, BTW!
  12. I've always been a Mauer supporter, and have oftentimes wondered why anyone would pitch to him with the game on the line. I have been concerned, however, with the "line drive" statistic. The home run he hit on Wednesday was the hardest hit ball I remember him hitting in over a month! When he's on, he'll have 4 AB's with 4 rockets. I realize no one can do that all the time, but it seems like those rockets have been missing for several weeks. Anyone agree?
  13. Tough choice, but have to vote for Trey. He has absolutely been raking, and wonder what his potential is. As a 33rd round draft pick, I imagine his road to success is quite a bit tougher.
  14. Wish someone who knows (Seth?) would give us the answer to Hick's defensive ability. "I" remember him as a great CF! I can remember 2 games in which he robbed someone of a home run. I thought he had a cannon of an arm. Would someone please give us the real scoop?
  15. I don't understand Mauer's thinking. He takes 'every' first pitch, usually a get over FB, and then is in the hole. If the first pitch happens to be a ball, he takes the next FB down the middle. I know he's a lifetime .319 hitter- just sayin'.........
  16. There have been some issues with Hicks that we are not privy to, but attitude and effort seem to be the main the problems. Fans seem to forget that this is still a young kid, who made some obvious mistakes in the past couple of years. Do fans remember how many times a young Hunter and Cuddyer were sent down after failing in the big leagues? The Twins have performed much better than expected so far this season, and have an obvious hole in CF. If the fans are expected to pay good money to see these guys perform, we should also have to right to expect that the FO puts the best product on the field. I don't quite understand why their is so much animosity with Hicks. Maybe we should remember some of the things we did, or how me acted at times, when we were young.
  17. Tremendous article, Seth. You have the innate ability to tell a story, and bring us these interesting players that are experiencing life for the first time in the fast lane of the minor leagues. You have a true gift!
  18. His last name may not be May or Meyer, but J.O. (Jose) Berrios may be the Twins future ace. Drafted in the first round in the 2012 MLB June Ametuer Draft, the 6', 185 pound right hander out of Papa Juan High School in Bayamin, Puerto Rico has been on the fast track in the organization. In his short career, the 20 year old(5-27-94) has pitched well beyond his years. He began his career in 2012 in the GCL and in Elizabeton. 2013 was spent in Cedar Rapids. In 2014, he had stints in Fort Meyers, New Britain, and Rochester. 2015 finds him in Chattanooga (at least to start the season!) Berrios is a fierce competitor and a diligent workaholic. He has a fastball in the 95-96 range, and consistently throws in the lower 90's. His second pitch is an outstanding change up, and also throws a curve ball which is more accurately labeled a "slurve." Jose has a career minor league record of 23-15 with a 3.01 ERA. In 280 innings, he has 300 strikeouts! 2014 appears to be the year that grabbed everyone's attention. He was honored to start the Future's game played in Minneapolis, and finished the year leading the organization in batting average against and WHIP, was 2nd in strikeouts, and 3rd in ERA. In his first start in 2015, he appears to be in mid-season form. He got the win, threw 6.1 innings, gave up only one run, and struck out 11 batters with only one walk. His next start will be next week against Birmingham. The fans in Minnesota are clamoring for his arrival at Target Field; despite his youth and inexperience, he may not disappoint us if he continues on this excelerated path!
