  1. I get it. I thought it was bush also. How about saying you can’t bring in a hitter until at least the eighth? At the same time, what can you do? From time to time, we talk about how great of a game baseball is, because there’s always a chance, you can’t run out the clock, etc.
  2. Hopefully the Game Threads can provide a break from said weeks.
  3. Only 3 so far on 55 pitches through three, so doubtful.
  4. Or perhaps Varland, to get the feel of coming in in relief in an MLB game.
  5. 1. Go to Chuck Norris jokes. 2. Search for “Chuck Norris”. 3. Replace with “Royce Lewis”. 4. Repeat.
  6. As radio guys noted, Jeffers battling back from 0-2 was huge.
  7. In 2019, I was driving down an interstate in Illinois when Sano hit the grand slam against Cleveland. Pretty much all of central Illinois heard me. Returning from visiting my son in North Carolina, Mrs. IT is thankful I opened the window for this time’s yell.
  8. Thanks for the help, folks. That was an Aug. 24 post that keeps getting added to. I was able to get sorted out, even catching most of the Cleveland blowout.
  9. Seriously? Did he not realize the bases weren’t loaded?
  10. That was his 12th of the year, so he’s at one for every 13.2 at bats. At the risk of demonstrating my skills with ratios (or at least a calculator) on a Game Thread, he’s on pace for almost 38 over a 500 PA season. He would need fewer than eight seasons at that pace to catch Biggio, so he’s getting plunked at an incredible pace.. Ty France is at an incredible 28 on the season, but even in an abbreviated season, Wallner is close to the top 10.
  11. Nice job, Max. Now a couple more walks and Royce gets another shot.
  12. Here we go again. Bases loaded and we choke. Option Lewis.
  13. Wallner is the second coming of Ron Hunt.
  14. Sometime I’ll bring donuts.
  15. Yep. and right now I’m approaching downtown Chicago on the same. I find train riding incredibly relaxing. Using the USA Rail pass, I left Chicago last Tuesday, rode to Milwaukee for Tuesday and Wednesday night’s game. Had to cut out in the eighth on Wednesday, but rode to St. Paul to catch Thursday and Friday’s games. Then was the awesome part. Left St. Paul Friday night, arriving Whitefish around 10 p.m. Saturday. Got off, crashes on an air mattress at a friend’s house in Kalispell. Hopped back on Sunday morning and rode back to St. Paul by Monday morning. Spent the day, went to last night’s game, back on this morning for the ride to Chicago. Then off to Millennium Station to catch the Southshore to South Bend. It’s been an awesome vacation/work trip. May try it again next summer.
  16. Thanks, all. It ended up working swimmingly. My friend’s spouse had a mid evening commitment downtown, so she dropped us off at the game, went to her shindig and then hung out at an ice cream shop. With the blowout, we left in the eighth and walked to a spot where spouse could pick us up street side. Made it to the Depot with plenty of time to spare.
  17. After last night’s game, Rocco talked of Ober’s next outing coming after “more than just an extra day or two.” I think he also used language of “three or four innings.” To me, that sounds like… 1. A limiting of innings. Not surprising. 2. That he will keep pitching, not just an IL stint. 3. Since he last pitched on Sunday, and Rocco mentions “more than just a day,” I’m guessing he doesn’t throw again until at least Tuesday, Sept. 5. 4. When Rocco talks about three or four innings, it sounds like they are keeping him stretched out long enough to be able to start, but also that they don’t wish to have him start. 5. That also points to him not being in the playoff rotation. So, moving down to St. Paul does allow them the opportunity to start grooming him for bullpen usage. If this is indeed the plan, I like it a lot. First round will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. That’s after an off day on Monday. Don’t use him over the weekend and he would be fresh. Let Lopez, Gray, Maeda air it out and play with a short hook, knowing that if you need to the bullpen, you can get three or more innings from Ober.
  18. Those sound great. Do you have dates on either? They would be fun to look up. I guess the Uecker game won’t be hard to find while looking at his home run log.
  19. My sense is that Rocco does increase the leverage opportunities, but very slowly, slower than a lot on TD would like. Particularly with young guys, he focuses on putting them in positions to succeed and not to fail. He seems to recognize that it takes a while to build confidence. I also sense him doing that when he pulls a young starter an inning earlier than folks on TD would like. He likes to have them leave with a good taste in their mouth. Tonight was driven by availability, obviously, but Winder with 46 pitches on Thursday vs. Sands with 32 on Friday were arguably equally rested. It was pretty low leverage when Winder came in, but it was also still within a grand slam. That he went to Winder in that spot suggests to me that he’s inching up the trust chart.
