  1. You know he missed a year due to Tommy John surgery, right?
  2. I bear no ill will against Nolasco. If he succeeds, good for him. It would not make me feel any better about the past Twins seasons to have him fail.
  3. Easy answer. The Twins feel he's not the guy they need right now. However, this means they have no one of consequence to back up Joe Mauer at first. This is a mistake, Mauer needs regular days off to remain productive. Give it a couple of weeks. Some pitcher will go to the minors and either Park or Vargas will be back. The Twins know they can't leave 1B so thin.
  4. It's there in case bad weather kills day one. This is also why these are mostly day games.
  5. Just remember that Santana won't be pitching every day. And even he received a bit of help today from the defense.
  6. According to Statcast, Buxton had the best defensive play in (statcast) history. He may as well retire. It's all downhill now.
  7. Even if the Twins trade off every tradeable player, 20+ of the 25 man roster is left intact. That's not much of a fire sale, that's a rather normal amount of trading activity.
  8. It seems crazy that Park would hit 24 home runs in half of a season. Are you sure that's not a typo?
  9. I suspect I'm going to be too busy to be able to watch or even listen to any games this April, but I may get to watch or listen to an inning or two here or there.
  10. Why wouldn't you have the fastest player in the league bunt? The Twins may as well trade the kid off if they don't know how to use him properly. If the situation calls for it and the other team is out of position, Buxton should bunt! Whether that happens every 10 games or every 3 games, who cares?
  11. .250 - .265 / .320 - .335 / .425 - .445 17 HR, 27 2B, 7 3B If you have read my other predictions, you will see a lot of these players profile the same way. It could be argued that the Twins have a weakness in that most of the players are not only at the same point in their careers but also profile as being the same types of hitters.
  12. Regression wasn't the right way to plot that graph. All one needs to do is count the data in the top right quadrant + the bottom left quadrant, then compare with the other two quadrants. Just eyeballing, at least with this data set, it looks like there is a strong correlation. Baseball bloggers should stay away from math and just lift numbers off fangraphs. That's what they truly enjoy anyway.
  13. Halladay also knew how to throw it down and away when he needed to mix things up. This seems to be a common theme among pitchers who manage to stick around a while.
  14. Great point. You need to be working in a FO.
  15. .235 - .250 / .288 - .305 / .422 - .450 17 HR, 22 2B, 8 3B, 16 SB Don't forget, he is still having trouble at the plate and he is still quite young. His peak years are further out. If his breakout year actually happens in 2017, here's what we're looking at: .280 / .335 / .500 22 HR, 27 2B, 9 3B, 20 SB
  16. Pitchfx shows that Hughes is a 'right down broadway" type of pitcher. Without velocity there are no good things that can happen for Hughes. Batters need to do very little to adjust to hit off of him because the ball is always going over the plate in the same spot. Hughes has to learn to paint the corners if he can't throw 92.5+. Maybe Santana can show him how to throw it down and away once in a while.
  17. They fooled us last year with a strong spring (19-11) and looked like a completely different team once the season started. In a way they did us a favor last year. Within 2 weeks we knew the 19-11 ST was a mirage, allowing us to spend the summer doing other things.
  18. I'm sure Molitor would prefer to have 12 pitchers. But the state of the pitching really is this bad.
  19. As this goes on, the Koch Brothers are pushing through bills for a new constitutional convention in each state, and many states are already on board. Step 1: Manufacture a constitutional crisis Step 2: Fool the electorate into voting for a new constitutional convention Step 3: Stock the convention with the elite who have been working hard to amend our freedoms and steal from us. Think "Citizens United" on steroids. Step 4: Say goodbye to the constitution that protects us from these people. Nice thoughts for your Friday.
