  1. The Adrianza/Santana swap may be the least surprising Twins move in history.
  2. You're not the first to report that. Twins felt he wasn't listening to them. That's one sure way to be sent away....
  3. Berrios got bounced around way too much last year and it did not help him. This is the right move for Berrios.
  4. Hopefully we all knew Gibson would struggle a bit this year. In spite of the narrative that he has been bad for years, he is playing worse over his past 5 starts than he ever has before. And that's all we're talking about here -- 5 starts. He deserves 8, at a minimum, to decide what to do with him. We live in an instant gratification culture so this will be the daily gripe around here but, nevertheless, the Twins are doing the right thing in working with him.
  5. Why discount prospects at all? They are already cheap. A smart person could plot service time v. "success" (assuming such a thing can be defined) and find the sweet spots, but even then there would be enough outliers to where you would need to plot regression. And, as you know, once regression gets involved it becomes a blur. In the end it's about people and not numbers. Baseball is full of late bloomers and it would not surprise me that if researched we would find that the majority of players have longer dev tracks than we imagine.
  6. He may end up only rising to average-ballplayer with his bat -- but he will still be a star due to his defense. Looking forward to his bright future.
  7. Calling him a bust is not fair or accurate. He had a decent rookie season and a good sophomore season. Last year he declined, but not as bad as the rest of the team not named Santana, as he and everyone else suffered in front of one of the worst defenses in recent history. What's going on this year is out of character for him. Rather than throwing him out, spend some time figuring out what's going on....
  8. Contracts eaten: A-Rod: $63M (possibly negotiated down, but high nevertheless) Johan Santana: $30M (this could be spun as incorrect by a troll, but this $30M number is low -- he earned a salary for a long time without being a member of the team and was eventually 'bought out') Vernon Wells: $21M There would be zero shame in the Twins cutting Hughes. Such things have been done before. Buyouts are unusual but not impossible, and if the Twins eat the full amount in the end it just gets blamed on the previous guy in charge. Not a problem.
  9. Garver would probably be up today if not for his 5 passed balls already this year. Still, Garver could also learn from Castro, Santana, and the major league coaches. There isn't a "wrong answer" here when it comes to Garver, in my opinion. It's certainly not "obvious" that he should be in the minors, he can probably learn the same stuff here without costing the team any games. If the team feels Gimenez is good enough, I'm fine with that for now....
  10. Leave it to Dozier to smack home runs in games where it doesn't matter.
  11. Re: the primary/caucus image. Texas has both. They call it the "Texas Two Step." If you want your primary vote to really count you have to go to the caucus too.
  12. I believe the statement was closer to, "You Twins fans just don't know good pitching. Berrios *might* be a #2 -- if he ever stops sucking (which has a 5% chance of happening)." That's not a compliment and not at all an accurate reflection of Berrios. This is hyperbole, which you seem to be against judging by your signature. I'll look at his results, thank you very much, and not be swayed by a terrible (and not unexpected) rookie campaign in the majors. Two things are obvious to me about Berrios: He has ace potential, and I knew all along he wasn't ready last year. Where he shows control in the minors, he can't hit the strike zone in the majors. He'll get over it.
  13. Harsh. Berrios *is* elite in the minors. Few pitchers have ever been better, even this year. Terrible idea to write him off as being marginal after a failed rookie campaign.
  14. Polanco was rated the best defensive SS in the Florida League in 2014. So out of every prospect in that league, he was recognized by as the best SS they had. Who wrote what in 2015-2016 that convinced so many that Polanco couldn't play SS, and convince them all so quickly, when there were no metrics to back it up? I want that kind of power. (But I have to say, if this came from KLaw I will be very disappointed in everyone for falling for him once again.)
  15. And he closed the season with the Twins organization playing 400 innings at shortstop.... I'm sure it occurred to you at some point that the Twins were trying him at 2B because they were planning to shop Dozier, and not because Polanco suddenly could not handle SS. Sometimes the narrative isn't "he sucks" -- there are numerous reasons a team can do things.
  16. Not sure who started this but it's not true. Polanco was never taken off of SS. You may want to pull up his stats and look. He played SS all through the minors and most of the games he played last year in the majors. I see this repeated a lot and it's simply bizarre to me. Is there a Twins team in another dimension that everyone else is watching?
  17. OK. But if your eyes were wrong about Polanco, could they also be wrong about Sano? Polanco is playing well just as some of us thought he would. There was nothing tangible that suggested he could not do the job. Sano is not fielding well, again, just as many of us thought he would. In fact, Sano's OF defense last year is showing up as being marginally better than his 3B defense is this year on the stat sheet -- and we all know the narrative around his OF defense.
  18. The worry that many had over Polanco was ridiculous. It was literally based on nothing. I would love to know the original source that everyone aped on that one. If people are no longer worried about Sano, that is equally ridiculous. He has mishandled a lot of plays and will continue to do so.
  19. This is a 1 star stat designed to give dialog to the nightly highlight reels on ESPN and the MLB network. It probably helps their editors hunt for exciting plays throughout endless hours of footage as well. Now they can just look at the stat sheet for 5 star plays and cue them up.
  20. I'm not sure who would be dumber in this scenario. The Twins for offering it or Sano if he accepted it.
  21. Errors have a purpose but at this point statcast should probably make the decision rather than some yob with a clipboard.
  22. I feel everyone's frustration. I know we have been telling each other to be patient for six years now, but I have a feeling that problems like this will get fixed going forward. Tonkin was good until last year so the Twins made the smart move to see if last year was an aberration.
  23. Why trade down? Polanco is going to be a better player than 95% of 50-75 ranked prospects. While we're at it, let's trade Dozier for a pair of the #1 ranked sneakers. Nothing's better than #1, right?
