  1. I'm not drinking the cool-aid. This has been a squandered draft so far in my opinion. I understand Falvey and Levine not trading Dozier or Santana last season (the offers just weren't right). That said, not addressing an obviously inferior bullpen in the offseason was strike one, wasting a 1:1 pick on Lewis and the wasted supplemental pick is a big FAT strike two. What i see so far? A new front office that can't close a deal during tough negotiations. Regardless of whether or not the Dozier DeLeon trade would have been right for the team is moot, they weren't able to secure additional pieces via negotiation and close a deal. Same thing with McKay. Obviously that was they guy they REALLY wanted yet they refused to go over slot or at slot and couldn't get him on board yet the Rays were able to do so. Just wow! What does this tell you about Falvey and Levine? Can't close a deal?! I'm not impressed at all.
  2. Amen and 100% right. Big opportunity missed here to grab a top college pitcher that could have helped the rotation soon while they still have the core of Sano, Buxton, Kepler, etc. intact.
  3. wow. i'm dissapointed with this selection. For a team so devoid of top pitching prospects this move is puzzling.
  4. Interesting. So there wasn't a market for Dozier last year when he was red hot and there's not a market for him now. Basically he's un-tradeable all the time.
  5. As crazy as this sounds i would approach them again and see if they are REALLY willing to talk this time. If not oh well.
  6. I may be in the minority here, but i'm beginning to think Mauer re-signs with the team after 2018 but at a much reduced contract. It's not like the team has been actively fielding future replacements at 1B unless the plan is to slide Sano over there and grab another 3B.
  7. This is a difficult question. We are on the edge of contention, but still have obvious woes in the starting rotation and bullpen. Truth is Santana at 34 is likely peaking and it will only be downhill from here. Plus he's under contract through 2018 with a club option year in 2019? To me if the right deal came along i would trade him but only if it's the right deal.
  8. Like i said in another draft thread, i was really high on Greene a few months back but now prefer Wright. Guy has a good mix of pitches, command and pure stuff. I agree. He appears to be head and shoulders better than Eades, Wimmers and Gibson. I would hope so at 1-1. I don't think the quick path to the majors thing is overblown though. Twins need starters NOW! At least while that young core is still together. And it still may be too late by the time he gets to the majors and becomes effective. They may only get a couple shots at the playoffs while Sano is still a Twin before commanding ridiculous amounts of money. Even more proof that the Jay and Stewart picks really hurt.
  9. If May were healthy he'd be starting this season, IMO. That said i agree with the rest.
  10. Was really high on Greene for months, but are now rooting for Wright. Realize that Greene has the higher ceiling but i prefer a college starter who should be able to hit the majors a lot sooner hopefully in time to help this young core before they start hitting free agency. That said, i wouldn't fault the Twins for gambling and taking Greene. His lack of secondary stuff really scares me though. If only he had a strong offspeed out pitch like a change, slider or curve then this decision would a lot harder for me. Otherwise he reminds me of Chapman more than anything else and he's a LONG LONG way off from the majors. I realize everyone says draft the best player available, but this year i think they HAVE to draft the best starting pitcher available. Especially after giving up on Jay as a starter and Stewart appearing to be a bust pick. They need starters NOW!
  11. I'll take it. Not every guy can be a #1 or #2. If he's more a back end of the rotation starter and a lefty, plus plus, that's perfectly fine by me. What impresses me more is his ability (like you said) to use four pitches. His fastball isn't too bad either. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's too bad May got hurt because we could easily have seen a rotation of Santana, Berrios, May, Meija and someone else. That's a pretty solid 1-4. POTENTIALLY.
  12. The one conclusion I'm drawing from this discussion....I really want to see Trevor May pitch again in a Twins uniform as a starter. Let's all cross our fingers that he experiences a timely recovery and successful rehab. This young man gets it. He understands strategy versus blowing guys away with pure speed. That is the difference (besides a few MPH on his FB) and guys Pressley & Deduno. Gibson should also take note as well. You have to have a strategy and approach to keep hitters off balance and eliminate predictability. Pure stuff will only get you so far.
  13. This is such a blanket statement. There are other options they just haven't tried them all yet. I can think of a few: Eades, Slegers, Hurlbut, Hildenberger.....they don't have to all be in AAA either.
  14. Boy they are really reaching deep into the trash bin for these relievers. If I didn't know any better it was Ryan dumpster diving again.
  15. And so was wimmers a Well to be perfectly fair i didn't reference those players originally, LAVikes did. I just made the general point that revamping the bullpen should have started in earnest before 2017 but i'll let that slide.
  16. Like i said, they should have started the process last year revamping the bullpen. And like i said it didn't mean that all of the before mentioned guys would have been ready or in place at that time (keep in mind his post did include an ETC.... so we aren't limiting ourselves to just Busenitz, Hildenberg, Baxendale, Melotakis, Curtis, Bard. That "etc"... could have included Wheeler and Wimmers both of whom could have been plugged into the bullpen last year and gotten the process started at least. Judging from your post i guess we should just continue to stand pat and say oh well, bullpen sucks, but oh well. That's very Ryan like.
  17. Will be interesting to watch. I am not faulting them for it. I'm sure Falvey and Levine have had their hands full since last November.
  18. Is Tyler Jay hurt? Wouldn't he be a logical choice. What about Slegers? Roll the dice.
  19. They should have started this process last year. Of course not all of these guys were ready yet, but it could have started and should have started instead of kicking the can down the road to 2017 before beginning in earnest. Now when the games are more competitive they are struggling with a complete garbage bullpen.
  20. So was Berrios (wasn't good last year). I don't know if he's broken yet. Glad we gave him a second chance.
  21. Lets see how he's doing by season end before passing judgement. Not every horse exits the starting gate at full speed. Some take time more time then others especially those new to the majors (see Berrios).
  22. I would take two or three more of these in a heart beat. Doesn't have to be an official "ace" to make this team a world series winner (although it does help).
  23. This might be the beginning of the end for Hughes. The fact that he has to hit the DL this soon after coming back from injury is a major red flag. Will see how Gibson reacts in this start, but if he continues to falter it might be time to move on a see if Slegers can handle the biggs.
  24. Meija would be a great addition as a lefty.
