  1. The two that really hurt the grade are Jay and Stewart. I think that the scouts dramatically inflated Stewart's value far beyond reality, but we'll see how he adjusts when he gets called up to Rochester. Jay is a different story. This one was the Twins trying to turn him into something he was not (a starting pitcher). Although I think they gave up on him much too fast at Chattanooga before he got injured. Off handed question. Has Jake Reed been completely forgotten about?
  2. Not a bad move by the Twins. Not exciting and certainly not sexy but a solid move to bolster a weak rotation beyond Santana, Berrios and Meija. Colon looks to be teetering on retirement, but we'll see. I wonder if means that the FO has officially moved on from Santiago and Hughes? And i can't say that i'm not unhappy about that in and of itself.
  3. I would add too that at the end of the day when you have passed on and your body returned to the earth and become ash and dust no-one will remember beyond a generation whether you were naughty or nice, mean or kind (unless you did something totally awesome or horrible). What's truly important is to live the fullest here and now and be happy.
  4. Fantastic post. Life is way way way too short to be miserable all the time and not enjoy the simple things.
  5. Was just using him as an example of a guy the Twins could target for a solid #3. Not saying he is available or anything like that. Idea came from another poster in another thread.
  6. Exciting to see Lewis Thorpe back on the radar again. Trying to curb my enthusiasm after his last start but at 21 he's still promising if he continues to improve. How likely do you think he gets called up to Chattanooga next year?
  7. Given how much Quintana garnered I can only imagine what Cole or Gray would fetch in a deal. I just hope the FO is active and open minded. Sano and Berrios are really the only major leaguers i would not be willing to part with at this point.
  8. What I don't understand is the need to lash out at posters in an op ed thread because some don't like their opinions and think they are "too negative" when they have EVERY RIGHT TO BE CRITICAL of an organization that has made bad decision after bad decision in lock step with 6 virtually uninterrupted (2015 the exception) seasons of utter futility, both on and off the field. In addition to cheap ownership (which they are) there has been disgraceful play on the field, questionable drafting and player development, and questionable decisions by the FO & Manager in the dugout. No one here can deny any of that with a straight face because the proof is in the records of years past. These opinions are just as valid as the op'eds. Vilifying those who are weary of some of the obvious deficiencies on this team accomplishes nothing. In fact its counterproductive because it drives a wedge between the two perceived groups of fans (glass half full / half empty). I think most of us can live with a healthy debate on the merits of both sides and their opinions. What I don't like is the tendency of the passive aggressive fans who frequent this site, that argue for the sake of arguing, who post clever snotty condescending remarks, because they don't like the truth and can ever be wrong. Negativity is a whole different subject and gets into human psychology and off into the weeds away from Twins baseball.
  9. Knowing this team, just roll with what you have. Call up Gonsalves and or Romero and JUST GET GOING with this rebuild already. Go with the young prospects and fully commit. One of my biggest gripes with the previous GM and FO was the lack of full committal to a rebuild and the wasting of time. I'm tired of dancing around the subject, just do it already. DFA or trade Santiago for whatever you can get, offer up Gibson if anyone wants him and DFA Hughes if he can't handle the relief role and eat the money. The point is to start clearing the roster of mediocre players and create room for Gonsalves, Romero and someone else (i'd like to see Nick Gordon get a fall audition). They aren't going to trade for a Gray, Archer, Cole, etc. It's just not the Twins way (rolls eyes). And Big Sexy is not going propel this team into playoffs at 44.
  10. Hughes and Perkins. At what point does the front office make a decision about both these guys? Obviously Perkins is a lot less painful with 6.5 million left in his deal next season, but Hughes is going to cost them 26 million over the next 2.5 years. I can't imagine the Twins will cut these two loose when they can put them on the DL and claim the insurance money.
  11. Wow optimistic. Personally I'd be thrilled if he ever makes the Twins rotation at some point in the future and is successful given his dismal strikeout rates.
  12. He's signed for 2-1/2 more years correct?
  13. I second this. Tired of dancing around the bush. Using one of Gonsalves options is not the end of the world. Might as well see what this kid can do, unless there's some glaring deficiency. Go for it. Plus he's a south paw, plus plus.
  14. I like it. If May comes back successfully could be the best rotation this team has had in YEARS!
  15. Let not your heart be troubled Big Sexy (Colon) is coming to the rescue in the second half! What a nickname huh?
  16. 2. Our Twins – All Star Break Math for You. The left hand column is bigger than the right hand column with a record of 45-43. The Twins are in 2nd place in the AL Central, 2.5 games behind the Indians and currently just one game out of the Wild Card behind the Yankees and Rays. Not for long.
  17. I can kinda guess. Bartolo Colon has basically been guaranteed a rotation spot after the All-Star break. Don't believe me watch the Falvey interview he was smiling ear to ear about a 44 year old starter who is absolutely struggling. Tells you all you need to know right there. Dumpster diving at it's finest. Are they? They certainly haven't fielded replacements at 1b yet and that's just over a year away. You would think if that was the intention (let Mauer go in free agency) that auditions would be starting already but I see nothing of the sort happening. In fact it's very possible that Mauer (who is hometown hero and worshiped like a god in some circles in the TC's) could be offered a much reduced extension carrying him to retirement (another 4 years or so).
  18. You do realize Santana is 34 and will be 35 before next season? He's certainly on the downhill side of his career while the young core is still trying to reach the top of the hill. Do you just let him ride it out or try and get something for him, possibly a haul judging by the trade that just happened?
  19. Yes, perhaps instead of adding a starter they should be looking to sell Santana to see what they can get for him.
  20. Wow! If this is what it takes to land a #3 starter there is no way in hell that Falvey and Levine make a similar move such as trading for Sonny Gray before the deadline. NO WAY! Just insane!
  21. I just don't see this front office giving up the talent via trade to bring in effective starters or paying the even higher priced free agents either. When they did go after free agents they were all reclamation projects. Nolasco, Hughes, Santana all reclamation projects one step above the scrap heap. That is the legacy of dumpster diving Terry Ryan. Nothing will change with this new FO with current ownership still in place just a shuffling of chairs on the deck and more posturing. Might as well bring back Terry and be content lol.
