  1. i was about to say he could demand a healthy ransom at the deadline if he pitches like this all season. A pitching hungry team contending for the playoffs could come a calling for him.
  2. I had a friend years ago that was a type 1 diabetic. I was one of his work emergency backups in case he went into insulin shock or became incoherent. Many times he would get lethargic, have trouble keeping his eyes open, and would start to slur his speech before injecting himself with insulin and coming right out of it. Made me nervous watching this, because you could see the difference. In short they have to be very very careful to regulate correctly. Not eating enough, eating the wrong things, not eating at the right time, exercising too much and not changing the dosage of insulin that day to compensate, etc. Very tricky.
  3. Can he learn a knuckle ball? "Spring phenoms fool people. Veterans doing badly is called experimenting." I think this is wishful thinking and to be honest Phil has been getting destroyed in ST so far while throwing in the upper 80's. Not a good sign at all. TJ? Shoulder issues?
  4. Pretty telling. I'd take the Indians rotation any day of the week and twice on Sunday if i had a choice.
  5. I still question the need to do this now. Why not let Jay pitch one more season in the minors as a starter and see how he does? Last season he pitched okay. Why not see if he can build upon that? It's just rare to draft lefties with his power and selection of pitches. Doesn't it seem like a waste to write him off as a RP at this point? He's only 22 years old. Besides I doubt he makes the majors this season in any capacity given Paul Molitor is managing and has a preference for "veterans."
  6. I'd wait another year and see where everything is heading into 2018. The team has a number of free agents in 2018 and 2019. Perkins and Santana (has 2019 option) are free agents in 2018. Mauer, Hughes and Dozier are free agents in 2019. If the club has another disastrous season in 2017 and things aren't looking good heading into 2018 then they will have the flexibility to be able to completely reboot and dump 65% of the payroll and go from there.
  7. Can he start?.....just kidding. Twins are nowhere near contention and he's beyond retirement age at 42. No point bringing him in for one season and holding back prospects.
  8. That's one heck of a ceiling but i like the thinking.
  9. Actually he didn't say that at all and you are not acknowledging what the times was asking him either. He did not say nor imply American ball players were brought up in a superior way. Everyone should note your ONLY quotes were "brought up." To me this intellectually dishonest and could be considered libel in court.
  10. Are you comparing him to Tyler Duffey? He does throw a change but very rarely.
  11. Again. Everyone should RE-READ the ESPN article AND THE ORIGINAL NY TIMES article and the context of the piece were Kinsler is asked about this to begin with. If anything the times shows their own bias and arrogance more so than Kinsler. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/22/sports/baseball/world-baseball-classic-usa-puerto-rico.html? The NY TIMES ARTICLE, "The other is how staid and emotionally calibrated the Americans often seem in contrast to the bat-flipping, chest-thumping, flag-waving players from — well, pretty much every other team in the tournament." When asked about this Kinsler said: “I hope kids watching the W.B.C. can watch the way we play the game and appreciate the way we play the game as opposed to the way Puerto Rico plays or the Dominican plays,” Kinsler said. “That’s not taking anything away from them. That just wasn’t the way we were raised. They were raised differently and to show emotion and passion when you play. We do show emotion; we do show passion. But we just do it in a different way.” He doesn't say the American way is better or bash latinos he just hopes kids watching the WBC see the differences and appreciate the way the USA plays the game in contrast to how other countries play. Nothing wrong with that. People need to chill out here and stop making this into something its not. like i said the messenger matters more than the message.
  12. We're not talking about the tooth fairy here. I would LOVE to see the reaction of people here if Joe Mauer had said something like this. Would have been priceless.
  13. What on earth are you talking about? He said that he hopes kids watching the WBC understand that the USA plays the game differently than Dominican and Puerto Rico? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? Nothing about race, nothing about wrong way or right way, just pointing out differences. Wow.
  14. OMG...we really do live in different worlds and must be reading different articles. My earlier point is absolutely true. The messenger does matter more than the message in this case. Guilty until proven innocent. Sheesh.
  15. Really? Are we gonna go there?
  16. Actually it wasn't a straight criticism of latin american players plain and simple. You can't turn this into something it isn't. Sorry I don't support your spin.
  17. I hear what you are saying, but i think this is a big hoopla about nothing to be perfectly honest. If anything the media is driving a ridiculous narrative (like they often do) because the guy is a white guy and is automatically guilty as a racist. If it was a Latino player saying this about the USA team or a black USA player this would be a no-story, so in reality its not just the message but also the messenger that counts.
  18. How so? I don't think so at all. What i see is a journalist and newspaper putting words in his mouth and framing him as a racist because he's white and he dared to say that Puerto Rico and Domincan Republic play the game differently than the USA (WHICH THEY DO). Sorry.
  19. Read the ESPN article, before casting judgement that all i'm saying. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18980386/ian-kinsler-complimentary-wbc-purpose-differing-styles-play
  20. Perhaps you should read ESPN's article. Everyone should read that before hanging the guy. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18980386/ian-kinsler-complimentary-wbc-purpose-differing-styles-play
  21. Who said anything about making anything up. What i see is a bunch of people that feel guilty about something and are quick to cast judgment on a baseball player because he's a white guy. And he is correct American's are raised differently and do play the game differently than kids in other countries. i don't see how that racist. To me saying that we are all the same, that there are no cultural differences, no differences in the game is racist.
  22. Really? please provide examples of "disproportionate criticism leveled on latin players", because i'm curious to read about them.
  23. My opinion is that this is a REALLY big stretch to say it's racism. Is it because its a white guy is saying it? Would it be okay if it was an African American or Spanish American instead? What exactly is racist about what he said? I think people need to back off the rush to throw out the race card every time they disagree with something. "I hope kids watching the W.B.C. can watch the way we play the game and appreciate the way we play the game as opposed to the way Puerto Rico plays or the Dominican plays. That’s not taking anything away from them. That just wasn’t the way we were raised. They were raised differently and to show emotion and passion when you play. We do show emotion; we do show passion. But we just do it in a different way." I just don't see how that's racist. He is basically saying that American baseball is played differently than how Puerto Rico, Domincan, Koreans, etc play the game. To deny that is flat out ridiculous. I see no mention of race just region. Different teams / cultures DOO show emotion differently, just like many Minnesotans of Euro heritage have a propensity to be passive aggressive stoic.
