  1. If i was Falvey and Levine and i got wind of this (i'm sure they are already aware), i'd be calling Rob Manfred and hopefully he tells him to knock it off or ELSE!
  2. Wow sounds completely unethical if you ask me.
  3. If he's only hitting 78mph on his fastball right now that's game over for Perk. Torn Labrum is a very difficult surgery on a pitcher.
  4. I was about to echo the same thing. WTH were the Twins scouts and FO thinking drafting this guy with the #6 pick? Stupid if you ask me. Sorry to sound harsh, but this screams incompetence. The conversion of RP's to successful meaningful starters is not great to begin with. Why put yourself behind the eight ball in the first place and draft a square peg and try and ram it into a round hole? Edit: I can see this gamble with later picks but a top 10 first round pick?
  5. This is just depressing. First May needing TJ and then this flop, a draft pick specifically made because they thought they could convert him back to a starter. Just par for the course under the Ryan regime. Like i said in another thread the Twins better pray for rain this season and hope Thorpe, Gonsalves, Stewart take a big step forward.
  6. Yes, agreed. Easy to get fired up about something that is frustrating and take opposing comments personally. Thats when you know your passionate about something.
  7. It took me a while to edit my post. I agree with you on the hitting. I'm still bummed out on the May deal. Not a good sign when you put so much hope on one guy. I absolutely do agree with not squandering the core of hitting talent we have now. From the offensive perspective i think this team is close, it's just the darn pitching that's killing them right now. We ALL really do need to pray for rain this season and hope that Berrios, Meija, Gonsalves continue to progress towards major league roles. This is a BIG BIG year to see what they have down there otherwise I think the FO will be forced to fork over a TON of money in desperation to get starters here sooner.
  8. Yep. The Twins are 3 or 4 starters away from competition STILL and there is not much on the horizon that is remotely close and has proven a thing. I was really hoping that this season would be big year for May, but as it stands now having TJ at 27....hard not to think that his career is essentially over after watching other guys taking 1 year and 1.5 years to come back. Hughes is a shadow of his former self. Duffey and Gibson are absolute train wrecks, Santiago is Nolasco light and Berrios can't handle major pitching. Were do they go from there? They are NOWHERE near ready to go out and spend big on premium major league starters when they have nothing else to pair it with. If anything the new FO needs to purge guys like Hughes, Mauer, Santiago, Perkins, etc. over the next two years. Guys who are not living up to expectations and are taking up large chunks of the payroll. Clear some space so that in 2 years the club will have much greater flexibility to make meaningful moves and go after quality starters, to pair with some of the up and coming talent. The only hiccup is that there doesn't appear to be that many guys on the way up given how bad the team has been these past five years. Who else is there besides Berrios, Gonsalves, Romero, Meija?. Thorpe missed 2015 and 2016 with TJ surgery and a viral infection and is off the radar. Kohl Stewart looks like a flop with the horrible K/9 rates. Tyler Jay is struggling to convert to a starting role.
  9. Oh im not disputing that. I just don't want him on the squad as a starter to begin with because of Molitor tendencies.
  10. Why not Mejia or Duffey? Surre Duffey was terrible last season but Vogelsong is 40 years old and it's not like he was ever good to begin with! Plus the guy is on retirements doorstep. If he does make the roster he's another Jason Marquis, Kevin Correia, Mike Pelfrey, etc. Waste of a roster spot.
  11. Ughhh. Ryan Vogelsong as 5th starter? Yuck. Can't the team gamble once and go with either Berrios or Meija? If you really have to why not give Duffey a second shot at the starting five. At least he's young.
  12. Yep. My fear is his career is basically over now. Plan B..... Meija? Berrios?
  13. I would think that they are evaluating everyone top to bottom. A year will allow them to do that effectively. Then start replacing / plugging new staff in. Molitor is gone at years end IMO.
  14. Really? Are we watching the same guy? He can throw sliders, curves and changeups. In 2010 (arguably his best season), almost 17% of his pitches were curveballs and 5% were changeups. In 2012 (another good year for him), 19% curve balls, 10% changeups. When he first joined the Twins he started throwing a knuckle curve and that has steadily increased to almost 23% of his offerings, but so has his usage of that cutter which looks like mostly fastball and not slider. I think Hughes needs to cut back on the cutter and start throwing sliders again and increase the number of changeups thrown. If he can't consistently sit in the low 90's he's going to have to reinvent himself. He's not going to get away with 66-67% of his pitches being 4-seamers and cutters. But hey what the heck do i know. Just my thoughts.
  15. Haha and to think there was a couple of postings in another thread about how we need to sign Molitor to an extension to give him peace of mind and help mold these kids into men, lol
  16. He needs to embrace his off speed breaking ball stuff (changeup, slider, curve) and increase there usage while dramatically cutting back on the number of 4 seam fastballs thrown. Part of the reason he's been pounded the last couple of years is the ridiculous number of fastballs that he throws. If your a hitter just hack away and eventually you'll get something you like.
  17. NOOOOOO!
  18. I don't have a problem with that unless its at the expense of Berrios whom we need to work into this rotation at some point. The sooner he takes off the better. If May is struggling at the end of spring training then perhaps he should go to the pen or AAA to get his head on straight. If Santiago, Gibson or Hughes is really struggling at the end of spring training then they better reconsider unlocking three of those slots that are apparently "locked" before the season kicks off. It all depends on how these guys pitch the next few weeks. That's why i don't understand why Molitor said what he said. Just silly IMO.
  19. If the start to this spring training is a sign of things to come for Hughes upcoming season we have serious reasons for concern already. High eighties fastballs with little to no movement is a recipe for disaster. He is going to get CLOBBERED this year throwing like that. IMO the Twins are crazy naming him a starter the way things currently stand. I don't care how much money he's owed. That's like saying: we choose to lose for the sake of losing, but everyone knows its the MONEY and it's the dam truth.
  20. Another thing. Last year Terry Ryan and Paul Molitor made it clear that they preferred (right or wrong) that May be used as RP in a setup role instead of starting. Fast forward to the new regime and Falvey assured Trevor May that the club "pictures him as an every-fifth-day pitcher," and that Falvey "seems really sincere about it." The question is did Paul get the message or is the new FO going to have to push back and say no no we aren't going to play favorites here and name starters 4 weeks ahead of opening day despite the fact that no-one has proven anything yet and we have one other guy (Mejia) also in the mix. This will be a real test of whose really in charge. If I was GM i'd tell Molly to retract that statement about a rotation being set.
  21. Stat for Stat last years squad was the worst pitching staff we've seen in 20 years (since 1996). That's saying A LOT! That was one of the dark ages (mid 90's) for this franchise. I'm sure there were others but i'm not old enough to remember anything before 1985.
  22. I guess my thought is that we haven't seen enough of ANYONE (Hughes, Gibson, Santiago, May, Berrios, etc.) to make a decision. The ONLY guy that should be a lock is Santana. He has earned it. The rest of those guys sucked so bad last season none of them deserve an "automatic lock".
  23. Yes, agreed on both comments. I don't get why Molitor yanks some guys so quickly while letting others toil away. It wouldn't surpise me if one of the reasons Pickler was brought in from the "outside" was to keep a close eye on Molitor and not feel a sense of obligation / loyalty to the existing system of doing things. Smart move by Falvey and Levine.
  24. I'm completely miffed as to why Molitor would do this this early. I mean opening day is April 2nd? That's just shy of 4 weeks. I don't get the whole certainty argument. We had the worst rotation in all of MLB baseball last year and they want to set the rotation now! Are you freaking kidding me? Not very bright IMO. I want to see more starts from Santiago, Gibson and Hughes before setting anything! Anything less is absolutely foolish. What i find interesting is that it's down to May and Berrios again for the fifth spot without that many starts to back it up. Paul Molitor must really not like Trevor May. Didn't the FO say he WOULD BE A STARTER this season? This seems to cast that into doubt. Perhaps this is push back from Paul on this. I look forward to 2018 when Mr. Molitor's contract is up.
