Can The Twins Win With Dozier And Mauer?
laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To be blunt and to the point. Yes and no. Mauer is what he is at this point but he's trying. Brian on the other hand, just shut your pie hole already and play ball. When your no longer playing and in a front office management position then you can talk. Until then, sit down and shut up. -
WARNE: What on Earth has Gotten into Eddie Rosario?
laloesch commented on Brandon Warne's blog entry in BW on the Beat
All of this is good and dandy but he still needs to be traded now...he will never amount to anything other than a 4th outfielder.....sarcasm Can't tell you how many posts i've read the past couple of months that he is the odd man out that he needs to be traded, that he will never amount to anything.- 6 comments

Still don't understand why so many here were in a rush to trade Rosario when our clutch core hitters obviously are carrying the load and went 0-9 (Mauer and Dozier).

Can The Twins Win With Dozier And Mauer?
laloesch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Mauer batting cleanup? ughhhh. I'd rather have someone else hitting there that actually has some power and can do something else other than take a walk. -
I think you are correct in that it was a chain reaction of issues that led to the sinking Twins ship beginning in 2011 and the fact that they had been good for close to a decade. The low low draft picks exasperated the problem and only highlighted the general mediocrity and incompetency of the front office and scouting department. While they have found a few diamonds in the rough the last couple of years in Sano and Berrios, by and large the overall pipeline of prospects has been very poor leading up to Falvey and Levine taking over. The "country club" atmosphere is only the tip of the iceberg. I think they became complacent after the new stadium opened and more revenues came in and everyone was just happy making more money and the organization was no longer pinching pennies (outside of the actual players themselves). I fully expect for more heads to roll here in the waning moments of this season and into the offseason. Molitor and more coaches will likely go, but I could be wrong.

Rumor: Yankees and Twins had conversations about Santana
laloesch replied to DaveW's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Or go even further and deal Dozier possibly Santana in the offseason for more prospects to add to the stock pile they already have. -

Since the OP put that picture on their it's fair game. Who in their right mind would put their head or neck in a bears mouth? That bear could pop his head off like a champagne cork in a heart beat. -
yes. This guy absolutely should be getting a shot instead of Colon who is done after this season anyways. Not understanding why this hasn't happened yet.

Rumor: Yankees and Twins had conversations about Santana
laloesch replied to DaveW's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I get where you are going with this. I disagree though. I don't think it's that grave of a situation if the Twins trade Santana for a couple of AA prospects. Almost the entire lineup is mid 20's. Santana and Kintzler stick out like sore thumbs at 34 & 36. Breslow too before he was released. There ALL very young and still learning. And while i value veteran leadership, etc. Santana is NOT here long term. After 2019 (assuming they pick up his option), he's gone anyways and the core lineup still hasn't reached it's prime years. Deal him when he's at max value. -
Yep pretty much sums it up.

Rumor: Yankees and Twins had conversations about Santana
laloesch replied to DaveW's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I don't understand this thought process. You are setting up a near impossible scenario that no-one will meet. We have the youngest lineup in the majors right now and a starter that is two years (if they pick up his option) away from free agency that will be 34 by seasons end. The timelines just don't match and no-one is going to give up a #3 guy that close to the majors in exchange for Santana at this point. It's just not gonna happen. When this young core hits it's prime Santana will be LONG GONE...contemplating retirement. Trade Santana NOW for two AA starters and bam we've added more depth to a farm system and talent that could easily hit the majors the next two seasons and contribute long into the future. Sure those guys may not work out, but at least you maximized the return for a guy likely to be gone in two years anyways. Unless you plan on extending him. -
I like this deal a lot. Littell has a great curve, low 90's fastball and is developing a slider that i heard is near unhittable at times. That to me sounds like a solid #3 / #4. Plus he's 21 and is up in AA ball. If thats true then this is a great find. Enns looks appears to be a solid reliever type and he has 4 pitches. Very positive trade from this FO, feeling good vibes. Now lets see what we can get for Kintzler and Santana. You don't have to trade them but if they can get a couple of very solid SP prospects close to the majors AA or higher i will feel a lot better heading into 2018 and 2019. Exactly the kind of moves this franchise needs to inject some quality pitching prospects into the minors without having to trade away any of the core offensive players at the majors. Perhaps i was wrong about Falvey and Levine.

Rumor: Yankees and Twins had conversations about Santana
laloesch replied to DaveW's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Buxton hasn't proven a thing yet offensively. He has 600+ at-bats now and still virtually no progress from 2016. If he doesn't improve he will never be more than a 4th outfielder. By now you would THINK there'd be some progress but not yet. I'd be tempted to sell. So Buxton for Gray, yep i'd probably do it especially if he agreed to an extension. Gray is a #3 starter in my mind and he's still young at 27. The kind of starter the Twins should be targeting. -
Yes, but Santana is also 33/34. He will BE LONG GONE when the current core hits their prime. Will he be so indispensable then? Gimenez is a nice guy but not a critical piece of the future and certainly nothing more than a backup at best. Garver should be up right now, the guy has all the tools and CAN ACTUALLY HIT!. Dozier's current season is a mirror opposite of last year which is typical of his career. Low BA, pull hitter, that has some pop to the bat. He's also not a critical piece of this rebuild given his wild up and down swings. The Twins can do better and with Gordon on the way he's expendable. Deal him. I agree with you on the bullpen, should be the biggest offseason shopping list item besides starting pitching, but why not call up Jake Reed in the meantime? It's like I said in my earlier post, the Twins are pretending again instead of committing 100% to the rebuild. This was same pattern under Ryan and makes sense considering 85-90% of the FO person-ell is the same. They develop some young players but don't trade away the veteran assets that can bring back other prospects to help hasten the rebuild, thereby they never get there completely. That's why Houston is so much further ahead than the Twins are in their rebuild, that and drafting better too. I prefer they embrace the rebuild, deal the short term assets with value and not get caught up in this pretending were competitive when were really not against better competition.

Meh....Hang onto Rosario for now, at least he can hit. I want to see Buxton hitting major league pitching with a respectable BA and OBP before pulling the trigger and dealing Rosario. He is arguably the second best hitter behind Sano alongside Mauer.

Are The Twins Suddenly Sellers?
laloesch replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, but one year closer to FA for both and decreased value. Plus next season both Kintzler and Garcia are gone. So in a way the Twins are kinda in a conundrum. Do they believe these guys are building blocks or aging veterans that are sell-able assets? What's certain? Without more pitching this team ain't gonna win anything. Sure they might end up near .500, but that's not gonna get this team into the playoffs unless they get lucky. We've already seen how they perform against quality opponents such as the Dodgers and the results aren't too good. Two. When Sano is not in the lineup this team STRUGGLES offensively, they need to find someone else in the lineup that can carry this team offensively. So...do they choose to stand pat and hang on to aging assets such as Dozier, Santana, etc, while feigning competitiveness to the fans or get off the pot and sell. In my opinion you can only stink up the joint so long before you should start producing something. This multi year limbo this team is stuck in is a result of cheap ownership and a front office in denial and not committing 100% to a rebuild when they should have years ago. Look at Houston they were TERRIBLE from 2011 to 2014, but GUESS WHAT?!? They chose to rebuild and traded off their sell-able assets that weren't part of the long term plans in order to bring back prospects. This isn't rocket science.- 82 replies

To me there seems to be a common theme being echoed on these forums (not picking on your post in particular) that Rosario should be traded or moved to the bench. Yeah i know he had a slow start to the season, but I just don't see the need to do so at this point. He's young, he's hitting well and outperforming his fellow outfielders by a mile offensively (although Kepler is have an okay year too). If were gonna listen to offers on Rosario, Granite and Grossman (whose really a DH), then you listen to offers on Buxton as well. I just don't think he's untouchable based on his level of play so far.

Why not? I think he has potential, more so than Tepesch, Gee, Colon, etc. He has pitched well down the stretch here. He doesn't have overwhelming stuff but he's winning. Do i think the Twins will promote him down the stretch here? No, unfortunately.

Count me as on that is glad that Gibson is pitching better. As much as the guy drives me crazy early on in the season he has decent stuff and just needs to trust himself and be aggressive. If only he could do that it in April and May, all the way through the season. Would go a long way towards solving this teams starting pitching issues.
-
Does anyone see a pattern developing here? I swear if i squint my eyes enough its old man Ryan making these deals instead of Falvey and Levine? The acquisitions.....Colon, Turley, Gee, Tepesch, Haley, probably others i'm not thinking of. Junk, Junk, Junk, Junk, mediocre rental in Garcia which i do see value in. What's the difference at the end of the day? None of these moves really had any hope of being a long term positive impact for a team trying to become competitive. What's worse is that this new Front office appears to be just as small market minded as the previous FO when the Twins are clearly closer to a mid market team and have the resources to go after Gray or other similar type players. Maybe now is not the right time, but that would clearly be a long term move that would improve the Twins. While i understand the thought process behind going after Garcia in the short term, if that falls through why not promote Gonsalves, Romero or Jorge? Be willing to invest in your prospects through experience even if it costs you in the short term in wins.

Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
laloesch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agreed. Would be a very tough pill to swallow if the return is Garcia. Good catching prospects are not easy to come by. I would be shocked if this is who they send over to Atlanta.
