  1. If they're really going to push towards a youth movement why not have... Santana (33) Hughes (29) Gibson (27) May (26) Duffey (24) / Berrios (21) Bye bye Pelfrey. Trade Milone and permanently bench Nolasco for the remainder of his contract. Simple easy best solution to the glut of starters we have. Right now the issue is quantity vs. quality. You can't have it both ways. Either go with the best starting rotation you can field regardless of contracts and prior obligations or continue with same old same old and miss the playoffs again in 2016 by a few games.
  2. He'll blow it. You wait. 6 runs given up first three innings. Book it. Using a bit of reverse psychology.
  3. Joe is not suffering any post concussion issues. If he were he'd have missed a significant amount of time this season like Justin has recently. Those issues include but are not limited to amnesia, vertigo, nausea, etc. I'm 100% POSITIVE he would not be playing right now. It's ridiculous that people continue to equate his recent struggles at the plate to his concussion from over three years ago (he's been symptom free for over two years now). As someone who suffered severe head trauma in an accident as a kid and lost a whole day (post concussion amnesia), I've had vertigo issues off and on ever since. That didn't stop me from playing 3 sports in highschool (Football, Soccer and Tennis). Most of the time its triggered by repetitive high velocity movement, jolts or excessive head movement. I can tell you with much certainty that his struggles in the batter box are not due to his concussion, more like laziness in the offseason.
  4. I think you've watched too many of his video's and you know him personally
  5. I think he's just lazy and that's about it. I mean the video's he's put out regarding his training and the offseason golfing gut picture say it all. Joe Mauer is lazy. He does nothing in the offseason except play with his money. Simple as that.
  6. Name me 5 pitchers off the top of your head that had no control and developed it late in their careers in MLB. NAME them! Crickets chirping. Yeah the only one you can think of is Randy Johnson and even he was consistently a 10+ game winner by his second year. See ya SANE.
  7. I would imagine the Twins are going to make one last ditch effort to turn him into a starter. If not he could open 2016 in the bullpen.
  8. OBP is not the be all end all and Mauer is NOT BY FAR the best hitter on this team. Plouffe, Rosario and Dozier ALL have more multi-hit games than Mauer. Your statement is a gross mischaracterization. His OBP is heavily watered down by the fact that he walks more often than he gets hits. For a #3 hitter he should be DRIVING the ball in NOT standing like a statue in the batters box praying for walks before striking out or hitting weakly into double plays. OH and by the way the Mauer critics are not expecting 2009 numbers from him just the pre 2009 numbers where he hit in the high .290's - low .300's and had 80-90 rbi. That's what he should be doing along with actually training in the offseason.
  9. Many of us would. His arms are noodles and he's got chicken legs. For a 6'-5", 32 year old, with his eye at the plate he should be hitting .295+, 20+ hrs., 80+ rbi's, and .400 + OBP at 23 million a year. MINIMUM. Mauer has been pathetic this year absolutely pathetic. Last nights 3-5 display has become an aberration for him. He's had 31 multi-hit games this season, 8 homeruns, 60rbi, .271 batting average with a .341 OBP. Atrocious for a supposed star franchise player.
  10. Wow those are impressive numbers. Minnesota should give him another 10 year deal worth 200 million this time so that he bog down the payroll for the next decade.
  11. I don't either. If anything the Twins need to be unloading starters not trading for more overpaid mid 30's veterans. This deal stinks for the Twins.
  12. Jesus I'm so tired of the Pelfrey experiment. It's infuriating that the Twins continue to placate this man's ego and keep him in the rotation in lieu of Trevor May and the three options we had in AAA (Pat Dean, Michael Bowden & Taylor Rodgers), all of whom won 11+ games.
  13. Maybe, but probably not as a starter. He is too erratic. If he hasn't developed the control necessary to be a starter by now he never will.
  14. I laughed my head off when you said Nolasco. You think that he's not clearly better than Nolasco, seriously? Are we watching the same team and players?
  15. I don't see such a rotation happening in 2016, I just don't. I would like to see it but it would take some trades.
  16. The problem i foresee is if this team does make the playoffs, what kind of rotation do you go with? Hughes might still be out, Santana won't be pitching due to the suspension, Gibson and Milone have been so-so and May is still in the pen. So who do you start in the one game WC elimination? Gibson? Gibson, Pelfrey & Milone have all been shaky the past few weeks. Duffey has too little experience to factor in yet. What happens if we win the single elimination game and move on the divisional series? Do go with Hughes (assuming he's healthy), Gibson, Pelfrey and Milone? I kind of have the feeling the Twins are not going to call up Berrios this season to save on service time. But Duffey might be a possible option depending on how his his next couple of starts go.
  17. I don't care what the Twins have to do, get rid of this clown. Trade him for future considerations, include other prospects to sweeten the deal, eat half his salary whatever. They have to get rid of this guy. There is absolutely no reason to Ricky Nolasco in the rotation next season or 2017 other than contract status. The future is now, it's time dump these non productive starters even if we have to eat significant salary. Oh by the way, I hope the league owners insist on adding a contract escape clause for players caught doping. Santana has taken Terry Ryan to the cleaners and is laughing all the way to the bank. The Twins don't need Nolasco, Pelfrey or Santana. Get rid of these guys and let the kids pitch. Wht a difference when you ACTUALLY HAVE talent (Duffey, May, Berrios, etc.) instead of expesive as beens and low velocity AAAA'ers.
  18. May will be a starter in 2016. Pelfrey will be gone at seasons end and Nolasco will spend the rest of the season on the disabled list before the Twins dump him this off season. The Twins will not pick up Milone's option either. Next season it will be Hughes, Gibson, Santana, May and Duffey /Berrios.
  19. May did not REALLY struggle to get through 6 innings. He is not a true bullpen specialist or possibly a closer. He is a starter. PERIOD.
  20. I agree but the guys they need to move are big contracts and that make them difficult if not impossible to trade. Unfortunately in their haste to get a winning product back on the field the Twins grew impatient with the farm system and got suckered into signing Nolasco (I never liked him), Ervin Santana (they tried to sign him before) and Hughes. While I more or less agreed with the Santana signing and Hughes extension it ties the hands of the team with long term expensive contracts through 2017 and is an immediate road block to Berrios and May. I would be totally shocked if Pelfrey is retained given the depth of starting pitching and not shocked at all if Nolasco is dumped this offseason. Milone will probably stick around as that lefty fifth starter.
  21. "Mauer going back to catching" In all seriousness I think the front office SHOULD consider it! If indeed they've truly given up on Pinto and Mauer continues declining there's nothing left to protect. He SHOULD NOT be hitting cleanup or #2, PERIOD. I get the whole hometown hero thing, blah, blah, blah, the monstrosity of his contract, etc., but he's just not an elite hitter anymore or a team leader. A lot of posters on this forum are in denial and throw around his OBP like it's the be all end all and can't accept the fact that he's a mediocre at best first baseman. He's also proven to be invisible in the clubhouse/dugout and effectively blocking Vargas & Kepler who deserve a shot. Platoon Mauer & Suzuki behind the plate through September and call Vargas back up. In 12 days call Kepler up and see how he fairs. Let Vargas handle the majority of starts at 1st for the remainder of the season. Time for Mauer to pass the baton and go back to full time catching for the remainder of his contract. That should give the Twins time to find another catcher and eventually replace him. PS....make sure Suzuki doesn't exceed 485 plate appearances next season or were on the hook through 2017.
  22. Strongly agree. Nolasco and Milone for sure. Santana will be difficult to move after the PED suspension and the slow start. Unfortunately, the Twins are not one to dump salaries, but Nolasco should be one of those guys.
  23. I wouldn't fret too much about it. At this point all of the starters are tradable with the exception of Nolasco (whom the Twins have been trying to move, if the reports are right). I think Ryan will be selling one or two starters this offseason. We all know that Pelfrey is gone at seasons end and they won't be re-signing him. Nolasco might be on the way out as well. He has made it well known that he is not happy in Minnesota and the Twins should be able to sell him as a one season rental if they pick up part of his salary this offseason. After the last couple of starts Milone has proved that he is not exceptional, but he is a southpaw and insurance in case Berrios doesn't take. No worries though May will be a starter in 2016 along with Berrios at some point. At this point I think your locks are Hughes, Santana and Gibson. Milone is on the fringe with May and Berrios. I'm not including Meyer as it appears he's completely flamed out.
  24. No. May is going to be better than Gibson and probably Berrios based on his build and repertoire of pitches. If you have to move a pitcher let it be Gibson
