    The Guardians have the biggest run differential in the American League. They have a winning record in every conceivable split despite playing the fewest home games in the league. They are 23-12 against teams over .500. This is not a plucky little team standing up to a bully. This IS the bully. They're just winning their fights with refined martial arts while everyone else is just trying to throw haymakers.

    You won't believe this! My life coach hit Royce's pet Bergamasco multiple times in her Ford Tempo when she was still doing mezcal. She later told me that Royce showed up to check on her at her trailer, bringing a plate of macarons. He then stayed around to help her bondo over the dents. She was incredibly moved by his indefatigable good nature and now proudly sports an image of Royce tattooed adjacent to Lemmy* of Motörhead in her pantheon of body art. *Interesting note on her Lemmy tattoo - it was ingeniously inked so that his muttonchops utilize her actual body hair.

    Wille was such a special player. Imagine being a New York City baseball fan in the 1950s with Mays, Mantle and Duke Snider manning CF for the Giants, Yankees and Dodgers. I always think of that as baseball's golden age. Thanks for the memories, Willie!

    I didn't see any references to this being the Gopher State. I suppose there might have been some confusion with this also being the Gopher Ball State. Also, since the Twins brought it up, shouldn't it be: "The Purifying Waters of Lake Minnetonka?"

    Teflon Nation believes this is clearly a right vs wrong, smart vs not-so-smart issue. The number of providers has greatly increased from the days when cable was the only viewing option, hence pricing among providers is competitive. Providers won't continue to add unreasonable costs in their standard fee for what is essentially niche-demand programming. RSNs price themselves out of more and more viewing platforms leaving them only available to a fraction of their potential customers. Ad revenues fall, etc. etc. If RSNs are to survive they need to do it as a premium add-on available on as many cable providers and streaming platforms as possible. RSNs then make their money through saturation - by being available on every imaginable service in their teams' territories and reaching every potential customer who wants to subscribe. If it turns out the RSN's can't make money doing this, then perhaps it's time they follow Red Lobster* into the history books and MLB.com becomes the singular provider. * Teflon feels remorseful for eating all those shrimp on "All You Can Eat" shrimp night.

    Soderholm had one of the freakier injuries that I can remember - he missed the entire '76 season after falling into a storm sewer. He ended up signing as a free agent with the '77 White Sox so was part of those fun contests with the Twins that summer. One game in particular I remember - the June 26th showdown for first place in the AL West at Met Stadium. It was one of the biggest regular season games I can remember for the Twins. They entered the game tied with the White Sox atop the AL West division and Rod Carew was getting a lot of national attention as he was approaching a .400 batting average. It was a hot (87 degrees) windy day at Met Stadium and 46,000 fans had come out to see the game. Carew went 4 for 5 with a homer pushing his batting average over .400 and getting huge ovations. Glenn Adams also homered and drove in 8 runs. which is still the most in Twins history. (Later tied by Randy Bush.) Soderholm was one of four White Sox players to smack a home run in that game, but the Twin prevailed in a wild win, 19-12! To this day, this is still among my favorite Twins games trailing only the 10-inning Game 7 win in the 1991 World Series, .

    The 9-25 Miami Marlins have decided to not wait for the Trade Deadline to start selling off assets. A trade is being finalized that will send Luis Arraez to the Padres in exchange for right-handed reliever Woo-Suk Go and three prospects: OFs Dillon Head (Padres No. 6 prospect) and Jakob Marsee (No. 9) and 1B/OF Nathan Martorella (No. 13).     Nice seeing Matt LeCroy again and hearing the Gardy stories. I seem to recall Gardy referring to Matt as "Softball Sammy" a time or two in his postgame comments.

    The Twins' farm system is loaded. "Windy" the winged stallion has undoubtedly been the "mane attraction" in AA Wichita where his between-innings "Breaking Wind" routine has been a breath of fresh air for the woeful Wind Surge.

    As a baby boomer, I'm at a point in life where I'm annoyingly reminded by my body that I have a finite number of stair-climbing reps remaining in my hips and knees. If I started climbing more stairs at present to increase my speed and endurance in climbing them, I'm reasonably assured the added reps would also shorten the remaining service time for those hips and knees and put me at more risk of breaking a hip in the process. Thinking along those lines but for an elite athlete instead of a sedentary baby-boomer, does intensive training actually make the body more prone to injury? My understanding is that muscle growth is based on creating micro-tears through exercise that the body then repairs, adding more mass and and improving performance capability in the process. What does the recurring micro damage and repair from that repeated training do to the resiliency of the muscle, however, and what kind of cumulative stress does such frequent training impart to the supporting tendons and ligaments? Is a player who trains more moderately actually at less risk? I'd be interested to know how the per capita rate of ACL tears and quad injuries compares to present from when Spring Training was the extent of a player's physical conditioning.
