  1. I switched over to the Rays game last night and the very first thing I saw was Arcia misplaying a ball in right field that cost the team a run. Even if he's somehow found new life as a hitter in Tampa, unless he's the second coming of Ted Williams, he won't top replacement value as long as takes a position in the field. He's the Venezuelan Delmon Young.
  2. They say that moving is one of the most stressful occurrences on one's life. I remember when we moved from Oklahoma to California. We packed up all our possessions in the old truck and set off. It was a long trip with many mishaps. I remember how excited we all were to make it across the desert in one piece (not counting Granpa) and to finally be outside of Bakersfield come sun up - only to have Ma tell us that Granma had passed-on in the back of the truck that night. There wasn't much work in California but we lucked into some jobs picking peaches for 5 cents a box - but it turned out we had only been brought in as strike-busters. I then had a little altercation with the authorities and had to hide out in a cave for a while. The family took up work picking cotton until torrential rains caused a flood one night and my expectant sister, Rose of Sharon, went into labor. She lost the baby but found solace nursing a half-starved old man in a barn. Yeah, I tell ya moving can be stressful.
  3. At 24, do we think Palka is ready for AAA and maybe a September look-see with the big club?
  4. The "Gotta Make a Stop at the Futon Shop" jingle usually does it for me.
  5. Call me optimistic, but.. The Twins will win big tomorrow. You betcha for sure that by tomorrow They'll score runs! No hangin' breakin balls tomorrow. No Twins Live comments steeped in sorrow We'll have won! When we're stuck with 'pen of Kevin Jepsen, we'll just put him and grin and say.. Oh - the - Twins will win big tomorrow, it's Arcia bobblehead day tomorrow. (and he's a Ray!) Tomorrow, tomorrow, we'll win one, tomorrow Or when we get Trevor May! Tomorrow, tomorrow, we'll win one tomorrow We're only a May away.
  6. I agree that they're hard choices to make. The Twins really need to start making them, though.
  7. Now one less source of comic inspiration on a team struggling to put forth entertainment value.
  8. Crowdsourcing: The process of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people, especially an online community, rather than from employees or suppliers. What if the Twins had a GM who, when no one was looking, simply used the Twins Daily website to crowdsource his decisions based on the collective analysis put forward and prevalent sentiment presented on this site? What would have played out differently this season (Plouffe traded? May starting?) and would the Twins be in a better place?
  9. You'd think the prospect of ending up back in Sulphur, Louisianna would motivate a person to pitch a little better, wouldn't you? The only worse place I could think of is Colonoscopy, Mississippi.
  10. Liriano and Santana weren't Twins prospects. Liriano spent three years in the Giants organization before he was traded to the Twins in the A.J. Pierzynski deal. Santana spent 4 and half years in the Astros organization before the Marlins signed him as a Rule 5 pick and traded him to the Twins. That just leaves Garza.
  11. The minors should be affiliated to MLB but unafffiliated to individual teams. The minors would then hold the entry drafts for high school, college, and international players while the MLB would annually draft developed players from from the Minors.
  12. Saying that the impact to performance from steroids is a placebo effect is about as accurate as saying you only have to think you have sunscreen on to keep from burning at the beach. Muscle is increased through the healing of micro tears that were caused by exercising and lifting. There is limit to the extent of micro tearing and a minimum recovery time required for a person to build muscle optimally. On steroids, the same person can recover from greater micro tearing and recover much more quickly allowing for longer, more frequent workouts which significantly enhance muscle building. Identical twin A not on steroids would never be able to work out as long or as frequently as Identical twin B on steroids - regardless of what he thought he was taking.

  18. Alex Gordon can play a little 3B, too.
  19. 1. Byung Ho Park, 2016 Minnesota Twins, 31 HR, 56 RBI (on pace) 2. Rob Deer, 1992 Detroit Tigers, 32 HR, 64 RBI 3. Felix Mantilla, 1964 Boston Red Sox, 30 HR, 64 RBI 4. Hanley Ramirez, 2008 Florida Marlins, 33 HR, 67 RBI 5. Brad WIlkerson, 2004 Montreal Expos, 32 HR, 67 RBI
  20. The ideal GM should not only be concerned with the current roster but have a well laid-out plan of position succession for the next 2-3 years, as well. After seeing the position log-jam on this year's team which required sending Sano to RF, I'm not confident that's happening. A fundamental strength for both the Manager and the GM also needs to be their ability to constantly adjust. For the GM, this means understanding how the game regularly evolves and having enough flexibility as an architect to not keep designing the same Brady Bunch house over and over http://tvseriesfinale.com/assets/bradybunch37a.jpg
  21. Enough with trying to go against the wind. It's time to break wind and we've got the players who can do it!
