  1. I'm not extremely sure of anything.....other than if you wait until Arcia proves he's good before signing him, it will cost you extremely more than doing it now. That's based on years of data from players all over MLB.
  2. That's the question.....do you bet on the upside, and take on some minor financial risk, or do you wait for you next card to come, when everyone else at the table has already raised you three times? In the latter case, you are more sure if you should stay in, but it costs a lot more.
  3. Agreed, Gardy seemed to be all over bringing up Meyer last year, didn't he?
  4. I so hate this thinking.....it's better to have better players in AAA, so that when there are issues, we can bring them up, rather than....it's better to have better players up, so there are less issues. Hate it.
  5. The discussion of Meyer will move from "he should be up" to "nice trade"...... Not a fan of the bullpen construction, I don't get the obsession with veteraniness over ability and future. I have no real idea what to expect from the offense. There are guys that could easily move either way..... I agree with my friend the watcher of birds......Molitor will clearly be different tactically, but the managing of the culture is probably as, if not more, important.
  6. I really hope he figures it out. There is talent there. I'd love to see him succeed* * I feel that way about everyone, really.....
  7. If you always wait to KNOW with some CERTAINTY......you aren't really likely to save any money. It's too late by then. It would appear that most posters here are conservative, and would rather go year to year more, until there is more certainty. I disagree. There is value in certainty of what he'll cost. And, as salaries rise, those numbers above will look conservative. If you believe in him, you sign him to a 7 year deal.......or, you go year to year, and spend a TON of money in future years, and maybe lose him.
  8. Maybe they are trading Mauer.....hahahahahaha. It means nothing, other than positional flexibility, and potentially giving Joe a day or two off, w/o moving Vargas off DH, imo.
  9. I have no idea what the Twins do inside their HQ.....but giving them credit for trading for Worley, not fixing him, then seeing him thrive elsewhere after they released him despite him having an option? I am confused by that...... I'll wait and see who is in the BP before I decide they've really change approaches.
  10. I don't get the "it's better to throw limited innings in the minors, and never come up to the majors until you can throw 200 innings" argument. didn't get it last year, don't get it this year. A pitch is a pitch on the arm. He's no less likely to be hurt in MN than in AAA. At some point, you need to get over being afraid, and try stuff, like, last year, in a LOST YEAR. But, alas, they did NOT try stuff last year (at least with pitchers other than May).
  11. Please go with some young guys, and give us some hope. Stauffer offers nothing at all.
  12. One of the worst teams in baseball.....no room for any rookies again this year. Hopefully it won't take as long for help to come this year as it has in recent years. Hopefully, the guys that came up last year produce this year. But it boggles the mind that this many years into the rebuild that they can't find room for any rookies.
  13. Funny, I read "worst staff in baseball"......so, ya, I guess I agree with it all. My bad.
  14. he's 25. I don't think anyone is forgetting anything about his age. How many Elite starters haven't appeared in the majors by their 25th birthday? I have no idea, but I'm guessing not many (and, yup, some have, that's not really the point, you don't bet on the exceptions).
  15. While I liked Ken's post.......I didn't agree with the last part.
  16. Still waiting any positive return from the trades.......disappointed he couldn't throw strikes.
  17. Another great interview. Thanks to the Twins,Twins Daily, and the players.
  18. I was responding to the article. TR has been clear, that's not an issue for him (I call BS on that on Sano and Buxton, but we'll see). The issue is that a rebuilding team is even considering Pelfrey as a legit option to Meyer and May at this point in the rebuild, imo. Others may disagree, I'm cool with that. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind.
  19. Y'all don't even want to sign pitchers past 31 or 2....why worry about Meyer and FA past that? I can live with Meyer waiting 12 days......after that, I doubt there's a good reason to keep him down (barring injury, of course). No reason to keep May down now.....
  20. Meyer is a bit told for a pitcher, to be worried about service clocks, imo.
  21. some will say "just wait, it will be worth it". In the meantime, the team has so far gone 2 years without a CF.......that has a cost (in wins, and ticket sales). Those losses can never be recovered. They happened.
  22. I knew I should have stopped reading this thread. No my head hurts just thinking about the implications of what you just typed......I was pretty sure last time!
  23. True on that. I'm not really complaining, I'm disagreeing with what I see as their approach so far. they can do what they want to do. No real skin off my back either way. It's just sports.
  24. Danny Santana ain't in CF to keep those numbers up........if it is Hicks/Schaefer, good luck being near league average. Good luck not being in the bottom 2 or so.
  25. We have a whole section on their lack of patience with young arms compared to young hitters. They have young arms right now, and Pelfrey is old and won't be here next year. There is 100% no reason to start him this year. Not for this year, not for the future. Wasn't Pelfrey hurt last year (I know that thought is shocking), isn't that why May got more starts than Pelfrey? Was Santana here last year (as in, that's one less spot for May or Meyer)? I can only go by the actions I see. I have no idea what is in his head. If Pelfrey is the starter, it will be very hard to understand the actual strategy, at least for me.
