  1. Can't see less than nearly fifty million. Prices are escalating, though fangraphs had an article that these kinds of deals, oddly, were not reflecting that. They also had one saying these deals seem to be dying, since they seem to favor the team. Also, Sano already got some real money, lessening his incentive. His reps, imo would laugh at your offer.
  2. Interesting article on Thames on FG today (like most days so far this year ). One of the key things in his growth is/was day to day playing time in Korea, instead of inconsistent playing time. That was addressed earlier by FG about Buxton, that the Twins need to just give him time one way or the other (which I think was referenced in the thread). I'm just pointing this out as one more data point of....let him play for 3 months.
  3. on the 2nd bullet, yes. But, the pool size is smaller this year, so it will be harder to play games, we think. As for your other question, it's big. Even the difference between the Big10 (whatever it is called) and the SEC is huge, let alone HS. And, HS in FL or CA is very different than in MN. So, if I had to guess, if HS is A ball, college is AAA. I bet Seth or some other college player could answer that more realistically.
  4. I recall Aaron ripping me on line for suggesting public podcasts.....hope it was fun. I liked Northgate when I lived in town.
  5. As for Buxton, this last few days has been a nice improvement. Just 2-3 more months to go to know if anything has clicked or not!
  6. didn't he miss a few months with a shoulder injury? Not that I'm worried, but some might be.
  7. Whatever is best for development, and not worrying about winning, that's what I'd prefer.
  8. It does seem odd Duffey hasn't pitched... Hughes can be crafty for a bit, but it is likely not going to work for the next 2-3 years. And, if his FB is slower, in a year when they changed technology and everyone is FASTER, that's really bad....
  9. I pointed out that the farm system is not currently considered one of the best. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't want to clutter a draft thread with this discussion.
  10. Almost none of whom were acquired in the last 5 years in the draft or IFA.
  11. Not to mention the farm system isn't exactly highly ranked....so what they have been doing hasn't been working all that well.
  12. As I said in the general draft thread, KLAW has his top 50 up. McKay is third, btw..... I'm not going to rip a Greene, McKay or Wright pick (assuming Wright looks great the rest of the year). Anyone else? I'm going to seriously question the new FO. There is a MN HS kid he has 15th....
  13. scoops are included, but as you point out, most MLB 1B can scoop the ball. The delta between good and great isn't as large for 1B as it is for SS or CF.
  14. If Buxton has Becker's career, that will be bad. Very bad. How were Becker's previous 450 ABs?
  15. Not to mention two major season ending injuries to a first round pick, and a guy everyone had ranked as a really good prospect.
  16. all those things are true, though. Being disappointed at what looked like 3 guys who might help this year, being this? That seems reasonable to me....
  17. I'm very conflicted on this. While I think they need to be playing for the future this year, if you have a chance to win a game, I think you have to PH for him. And yes, that seems contradictory, but I don't think it is. You give him a chance to play, but you are also honoring the other players in game. PH Vargas (or Kepler) for him is also about the future.
  18. And it isn't sustainable to be that good, last year the TOP player had around half.....for /150. And, a lot of people here are super down on the defensive metrics, so I am assuming they think Buxton is worth less than this....
  19. Mid-June, imo. He'll have been given 200 ABs or so, by then. That's enough consistent chances to see if he needs to go down. The real question is, what do his approach/results need to look like to stay?
  20. I'd say that any fan that expected a good season this year was setting themselves up for disappointment. This is a mid70s win team, that needs to see what players are good or not. Frankly, I wish they'd actually commit to rebuilding, but that does not seem to be the path.
